The seven-year marriage of Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes is over. “Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” their lawyers said in a statement. “The split is amicable and by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.” Winslet and Mendes were married back in 2003. The award-winning director and Titanic star / perennial Oscar nominee have a six-year-old son, Joe, together. Winslet also has a daughter, Mia, 9, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton. It’s always sad to report stories like this, but we wish them both the best. Sam Mendes and Kate Winslet are throwing in the towel .

Actress Kate Winsle t has said she keeps her Oscar in the bathroom after winning the gong last year. Winslet, 34, picked up the Best Actress award at the ceremony last year for her role in The Reader. She said that she keeps it there so guests ‘can sneakily have a little [hold] and put it back down again’. Talking about putting it there, she said: “Because basically everybody wants to touch it, everybody wants to hold it and go ‘Oh, my gosh,’ and ‘How heavy is it?’ “So I figured if I put it [in there], then people can avoid the whole ‘Where’s your Oscar?’ thing.”
