Forget The Avengers. The new American Idol judging team is now officially assembled. A day after Fox confirmed Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban as the show’s new panelists – joining already-announced Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson – the network has released the first official promotional photo of this quartet and host Ryan Seacrest. Looks like The Dawg is in his usual seat… American Idol heads in to Season 12 with a number of questions, following its lowest rated run of episodes in years. With this new unit change the show’s fortunes, appealing to fans of country, pop and rap as the series clearly hopes? Will Carey and Minaj clash on set? And does Fox secretly hopes that’s the case? The rumor mill can finally stop churning: American Idol has announced its four-person judging panel for Season 12. Fox announced via press release this morning that Randy Jackson will return again to the ratings juggernaut, joining previously-confirmed Mariah Carey and the two leading contenders over the past few weeks: Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. “Nicki’s an unbelievably captivating international phenomenon who has made an indelible mark on rap and pop. And Keith is another great addition to Idol – he’s one of the biggest stars in country music and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for Fox. “With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan [Seacrest], we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.” Do you agree? With seemingly every artist having been connected to the open American Idol Season 12 judging spots over the last couple weeks, we can cross one name off the list: Katy Perry. Sources tell TMZ the singer turned down an offer from the Fox competition this week. A $20 million offer , that is. Why would Perry reject such a massive payday? Insiders cite her busy schedule and also her belief that it simply wouldn’t have been the proper career decision. So, who does this leave as a possible partner for Mariah Carey? Who doesn’t it leave?!? Everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Keith Urban to Kanye West to Nicki Minaj have been considered for the gig, with the latter rapper seemingly on the verge of signing a deal.
Hint: He’ll be right at home in between Nicki and Mariah’s sili-cakes.. Kanye West In Talks to Sign On As An American Idol Judge Another day, another person up for AI judges hotseat …although this choice would certainly trump them all… via TMZ Kanye West is negotiating with producers to become an “American Idol” judge … TMZ has learned. Sources close to the production tell TMZ, “Idol” honchos reached out to Kanye recently about filling one of the open judging spots … and Kanye expressed interest. But that doesn’t mean he’s on board — we’re told Yeezy is still unsure about accepting the gig. The way it was put to us … “He’s on the fence,” because he’s not sure if “A.I.” is in his wheelhouse. And there’s another big hang up — cash. Informed sources tell TMZ … “Idol” would “at least match Mariah’s salary” — a cool $18 mil a year. It looks like Nicki Minaj is either close to signing a deal or has signed one to become a judge, but we’re told producers may well add a 4th judge. As we reported, the frontrunners are Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Enrique Iglesias, but Kanye would clearly trump them all. Calls to Kanye’s camp were not returned. Yeezy, Nicki AND Mariah all on one stage together on a weekly basis?!? Get your popcorn ready Bossipers….
