Move over, Chicago. Dirk Schroeder will see your 18 human heads at airport and raise you some 16 items left in his body by a surgeon in Germany. After routine prostate cancer surgery failed to relieve the 74-year-old’s pain, a visiting nurse noticed the offending gauze pad emerging from one of his wounds. Schroeder underwent two operations to extract a haul of items, including a six-inch bandage roll, cotton swabs, a needle and a piece of surgical mask. The hospital insists the items entered his body after the surgery. His family is now suing the hospital despite their explanation.
In an admission only slightly less surprising than Taylor Swift saying she likes to date a lot, Kelly Ripa has revealed to Elle that she often undergoes plastic surgery. “Every seven months or so my eyelid skin rests on my eyelashes,” the talk show host tells the publication of Botox. “So I feel like it makes my makeup artist’s life easier, and it makes my eyes look a little more open on TV, which is where I happen to work right now.” Ripa adds that she’s often “dying to be cool,” despite feeling “really dorky” on a daily basis. But husband Mark Consuelos is always around to make her feel better about love and life. “I was drawn to Mark because he was positively an alpha male, and I didn’t think I would be drawn to that. But I just worship him. He makes me feel very safe.” The couple eloped in Las Vegas on May 1, 1996 and are parents to Michael, 15, Lola, 11, and Joaquin, 9.

Might cozy there guys… Michael Strahan’s “Live” Debut Boosts Ratings 44% Michael Strahan’s debut alongside Kelly Ripa on ABC’s syndicated TV program “Live With Kelly and Michael” boosted the audience by 44 percent from a year ago. Yesterday’s show with the former New York Giants football player as co-host was the most-watched daytime program in 14 of the top 15 television markets, Walt Disney Co. (DIS)’s ABC said in a e-mailed statement, citing preliminary Nielsen ratings. ABC tapped Strahan as the permanent replacement for Regis Philbin, who retired from the show in 2011. The program had relied on guest hosts for the last nine months. Strahan, who played with the Giants for 15 years culminating with a 2008 Super Bowl victory, will continue as an on-air commentator of “Fox NFL Sunday.” Produced by Disney’s WABC-TV in New York, the number of viewers who watched the program in that market more than doubled from September 2011, and was more than twice that of its nearest competitor, NBC’s “Today” show, according to the statement. Disney, based in Burbank, California, climbed 3 percent to $51.16 at 1:15 p.m. in New York trading. The stock had gained 32 percent this year through yesterday. Robin Roberts announced today that she is leaving Good Morning America one day earlier than scheduled, not due to her impending bone marrow transplant , but as a result of Hurricane Isaac. She is flying home to Mississippi to be with her ailing 88-year-old mother, Lucimarian, along with her family, which is in the eye of the storm. “I know the journey ahead will not be easy,” said Roberts, who is dealing with a blood disorder known as Myelodysplastic Syndrome. “Just know that I’m going to come back here as soon as I can.” In Roberts’ temporary absence, Good Morning America will welcome a number of high-profile guest anchors. Among them, it’s been confirmed: Oprah Winfrey, Chrid Rock, Katie Couric, Barbara Walters, Kelly Ripa and the Modern Family cast . “This means so much [that] these friends are stepping up like this,” Roberts said. “I love them for that!”
Saturday night honored the best in non-prime time TV as the Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. “Daytime” is classified as 2 a.m. until 6 p.m., so there was a lot of ground to cover for Anderson Cooper and Oscar the Grouch, who served as co-hosts. Despite two soap operas biting the dust this year ( All My Children and One Life to Live ), the annual award gala was a positive one across the board. Notably, despite a ratings dip and rumors of Ann Curry’s firing , NBC’s Today Show nabbed the award for Outstanding Morning Show program just the same. It’s the third for Today , breaking a tie with Good Morning America. Game on.
