Umm…okay? In a recent interview, Keri Hilson took the time to issue a big sisterly warning to her young fans about the images of themselves they put out on the internet. “If I were talking to young girls about the whole Facebook thing, about profile pictures and whatever, I would say…to a lot of people that profile picture is who you are and be careful about the message that you send,” Hilson tells Singersroom. Even mine isn’t sexy; I’m a grown woman and I could if I wanted to. I’m in a onesy zipped all the way up with a hood up, you know, I think it’s important to be careful about the message that you send. But wait… this Keri HILSON? Hilson admits to having those “moments” where she felt that the image she portrayed was based on her feeling, but says she is very “careful.” “I’m not saying that I don’t have those days or those videos or those pictures, where in that moment in time I felt that way but for the most part I’m very careful…I think it’s mort important that you’re confident,” Hilson says. Oh, okay. But more importantly, Keri makes it clear that whatever guys think they could get from her is far from reality. “My business is pleasure, being in the studio, writing, performing, being on a stage, traveling, my business is pleasure and that’s the only way I mix business with pleasure,” she adds. “Other than that, if you [are] talking about men…nope…never have, probably never will.” Okay. New Balance recently launched a new series examining the busy lives of some “behind the scenes” folks in Hip-Hop. This particular installment features Keri Hilson and Ne-Yo’s tour DJ, DJ Mars, who boasts a few other notches on his belt too. As the president and founding member of the World Famous Superfriends crew, DJ Mars single handedly changed the DJ scene in Atlanta. Currently touring with famed recording artist Keri Hilson, Mars’ career has taken him in numerous directions. Starting as Outkast’s original DJ, and touring with everyone from Ne-yo, Ciara, Usher, Monica and Kelis, DJ Mars is no stranger to rocking crowds. To date, Mars has personally spun at every club and major Platinum Party in Atlanta ranging from artists like Jay-Z and Diddy to Jermaine Dupri and Beyonce. Simultaneously, DJ Mars (aka Marshall Thomas) kept his business acumen intact by growing the World Famous Superfriends organization into a multi-million dollar business with DJs spinning from Florida to Japan and encompassing radio, tours and mixed-CDs in their packaging. In November 2010, DJ Mars was featured as a cast member on BET’s new reality series, “Master of the Mix”, a competition among seven of the countries most renown DJs.
Over the weekend, Lala and her hubby Carmelo Anthony celebrated their one year wedding anniversary. In celebration of their one year, the couple chatted with the folks at the NY Times where they discussed their own relationship as well as couple’s they look up to and aspire to be like such as Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. It already seems as if the “first lady of the NBA” -as she’s often called- and her boo, Carmelo, are following in Will and Jada’s footsteps after creating a production company together which produced “Lala’s Full Court Wedding” as well as the Mike Tyson Documentary. Check out an excerpt from their interview with the NY Times below. When asked about Will and Jada: “I love Will Smith and Jada Pinkett! You see the love, and you can see the support, and they partner on things and produce together. But she has a life, and he has a life.” When asked about couples that inspire them: “Will and Jada have a tremendous relationships, Jay-Z and Beyonce have a tremendous relationship, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, they’re a couple we see that inspires us. But we want to be ourselves. We want people to say, ‘We want our relationship to be like Melo and LaLa.’” When asked about Lala wanting to be more than a ‘basketball wife’: “A lot of times with basketball players, their wives, and I’m not criticizing, but their life is just about the man, what time is he getting home, why hasn’t he called me? But I’m so much more than” that. I’m a mom, I’m an actress, I’m a producer. Like, out of all that, I don’t want to just be called a basketball wife. What I see in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, is having your own, and I tell everyone that.” When asked about creating a business partnership: “I saw her wanting to go into movies and producing films and documentaries and reality shows, So I said instead of letting somebody else come on board and produce all this stuff, we have the capabilities and the relationships, we can create our own production company and bring everything through that.” I absolutely LOVE Lala and Carmelo’s relationship and I definitely don’t think it will take long for younger couples to aspire to want to have a relationship just like them!
