Veronica Mars Movie Hits Fundraising Goal, Creator "Blown" Away

Wow. That was quick. And pretty darn cool. Less than 11 hours after creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell asked fans to donate to Kickstarter in order to fund a Veronica Mars movie , the project has reached its 30-day goal of $2 million… in under 11 hours! “My mind is blown,” Thomas tells EW of the results. “I’ve been fantasizing about this taking big and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment.’ “And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver.” Veronica Mars was canceled by UPN in 2007 and starred Bell as a high school student/amateur private investigator. The film will go into production this summer and be released some time in 2014, with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution having agreed to pick up the tab for marketing, promotion and distribution.

Katrina Bowden Works It For Maxim

I don’t know about you guys, but each week, the 12 seconds of 30 Rock where Katrina Bowden shows up are always my favorite parts of any episode. And now that the show’s ending, I know it means I’m going to have to work a little harder to get my weekly Katrina fix. At least until she finds another show to play an extra in. In the meantime, here she is in her underwear for Maxim , so enjoy. And try to make it last more than 12 seconds. Olivia Palermo Bikini Pictures

Apparently Olivia Palermo used to be a reality TV star, but I guess I should have figured as much, considering I only ever seem to see her in bikini beach pictures. Unlike some of the other perma-vacationers I post on the site, I know Olivia doesn’t have much in the front meat department, but hey, that’s nothing a new reality show paycheck or a gift from a certain anonymous blogger couldn’t fix. Wait here, I’ll get the Kickstarter page up and running. » view all 11 photos Photos: PacificCoastNews

Josh Olson Will Read Your F***ing Script, For $5,000

Over at the fantastic retro cinema celebration series that is Trailers From Hell! , Joe Dante is currently running a Kickstarter to back the next batch of webisodes, which feature Dante and his “Grindhouse Gurus” — Eli Roth, Guillermo Del Toro, and John Landis, among others — dissecting their favorite genre fare of olde. And while a top pledge will get you all sorts of one-of-a-kind rewards ranging from lunch with Dante to the arachnid jaw from Starship Troopers , one prize in particular offers an opportunity so rare, someone had better jump on it, fast: A script reading by screenwriter Josh Olson . For $5,000 or more , an enterprising Kickstarter backer will get their script read and receive feedback from the History of Violence scribe who famously declared in the Village Voice editorial ” I Will Not Read Your Fucking Script ” that he — well, you know. “For a better understanding as to why Josh reading your script is so remarkable, we refer you to his legendary rant in The Village Voice ‘I Will Not Read Your #@$! Script,’ adds the Kickstarter page. Only one such prize is available for claiming, so hop to it! The Kickstarter campaign has 26 days to go… and presumably if the goal is not met, the Olson offer is off the table. "Project Misty" is a Resounding Suck-cess

Here’s some feel-good news for you on this sunny Friday afternoon: a few days ago we told you about the campaign to bring Radley Meztger ‘s erotic classic The Opening of Misty Beethoven to Blu-ray here on the Mr. Skin blog. It initially met with great success on Kickstarter, but was derailed when the popular crowd-sourcing site suddenly suspended the campaign, claiming that Misty violated their “community standards.” Not to be deterred, DistribPix head Steven Morowitz moved Misty to an independent site, ProjectMisty.com , and announced to Kickstarter backers that the campaign would continue there. And now, a mere two days after Project Misty was launched, Morowitz has announced that they have reached their goal of $10,000 and Misty Beethoven on Blu-ray will be a reality after all. Project Misty still has another 14 days to go, so if you want to get in on the ground floor (and pre-order the Blu-ray , the poster , or even some sweet “Henry Paris” martini glasses while you’re at it), it’s not too late. Go to ProjectMisty.com now and pledge your support- all additional pledges will go towards improving the Blu-ray product (subtitle coding, additional restoration, upgraded menus, etc). And congratulations to Steven and the crew at DistribPix! Long live Misty Beethoven ! Celebrate Project Misty ‘s success with nude pics of star Constance Money right here at MrSkin.com!

Kickstarter Is a Non-Starter for Misty Beethoven

Kickstarter has only been around for a few years (it was founded in 2008), but since then it’s become an essential tool for people looking to raise money for…just about anything. We’ve certainly mentioned it a time or two here on the Mr. Skin blog. So it was only natural that when DistribPix needed to stir up interest (and yeah, some money) for a Blu-ray release of their deluxe restoration of Radley Metger’s classic The Opening of Misty Beethoven , they would turn to the popular crowd-funding site. The campaign was a great success- over a hundred people backed the project, which raised over 80% of its $10,000 goal with more than two weeks left to go. But Kickstarter wasn’t feeling the love, and citing “community standards” has pulled the campaign with no plans to re-instate it . As DistribPix’s Steven Morowitz (who we interviewed recently on the Mr. Skin blog ) said yesterday in an email to donors: ” Despite the film’s historical importance, its artistic merit, and all of our hard work on the film, extras and campaign, Kickstarter has decided that Misty is too sexy for the site and is in the process of terminating the campaign. Your credit cards will not be charged . ..Obviously, we’re unhappy about this turn of events. We can name 4 or 5 projects with with similar content which have been allowed to progress to completion.” “Just wanted to let everyone know that Kickstarter has upheld their ruling that the Misty project was offering a reward with ‘objectionable content’ in violation of their community standards,” he updated this morning. “The project page will be pulled from Kickstarter sometime today.” So if you backed DistribPix’s Misty campaign, Morowitz is asking that you email them at Steven at VideoXPix.com with your name and your pledge level so they can remain in contact after the Kickstarter page is gone. And this isn’t the end of the line for Misty by any means. Morowitz and his team are currently investigating other crowd-sourcing sites and, if they need to, will continue to run the campaign (with additional rewards) directly from their website. As Steven writes on his blog: “So the best way to look at it, is that the KS thing was a dry run, now we know we have the interest…My team has put too much into this project, to have anything get in our way, we are determined!” For updates on the ongoing saga of Misty Beethoven on Blu-ray, you can connect with DistribPix on their blog and on Facebook and Twitter . And to find out more about DistribPix’s incredible history and its owner Steven Morowitz, you can read our SKINterview with Steven right here on the Mr. Skin blog!
