‘I just trust him and how he slowly feeds what he’s about to do to the world,’ Bane actor says of Christopher Nolan’s ‘enigmatic’ methods. By Kara Warner Tom Hardy as Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures The only problem with Christopher Nolan’s hugely anticipated “The Dark Knight Rises” is that no one involved in the project can talk about it, and with such secrecy comes obsessive fanboy quests for spoilers and on-set footage and photos . When MTV News caught up with “Rises” star Tom Hardy as he promoted another of his anticipated films, “Warrior,” we asked what he thinks about the incessant quests for details about his character Bane and the rest of the film. “I think it just shows that people are really into it. It’s great,” Hardy said. “If you love something, why not follow it?” He added that he doesn’t much care for those who seek out spoilers, however, and also hasn’t paid much attention to the photos that have been released , official or not. “There are photos out there; it’s nice to see them,” he said, before changing the direction of the conversation toward more general territory. “Chris Nolan is amazing. How he releases his films, he’s a very enigmatic human being. It’s genius, what he does, and I just trust him and how he slowly feeds what he’s about to do to the world.” Speaking of one of the things Nolan and company have fed to the world, we asked for his reaction to Anne Hathaway’s catsuit . “I’ve seen it, obviously. I’ve seen it up front,” he said, not willing to expand on the subject. “I think everything Chris Nolan and every person at Warner Bros. [does] is amazing,” he continued with a cheeky smile. “As I do Lionsgate as well [the studio releasing ‘Warrior’]. Funny, isn’t it?” he said when his “Warrior” co-star Joel Edgerton burst out laughing at Hardy’s politically correct outpourings of love for everyone. “Mercenary of me,” he joked, proud to be toeing the company line. “Ka-ching!” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Actress tells MTV News she saw people reading book all over London during filming. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway in “One Day” Photo: Giles Keyte Anne Hathaway knows you have your doubts about her, but she’s ready to impress you with “One Day.” The actress is no stranger to adapting well-loved literature to the big screen, having starred in “The Princess Diaries” and “Brokeback Mountain.” But having to speak in an English accent and co-helm a romance novel that fans were so protective of certainly put the pressure on when she was filming “One Day.” Fortunately, the response from fans has been positive so far. MTV News caught up with Hathaway and her co-star Jim Sturgess recently, and “The Dark Knight Rises” actress said that people have received her performance in the flick positively. “I’ve had people come up to me who have seen it actually and they say, ‘I didn’t think you could pull it off.’ And people feel inclined to tell me that they really had no faith in me whatsoever,” she said with a laugh. “So far, it’s ended with a, ‘But you surprised me, and I really enjoyed your performance.’ But I’m just waiting for that person to come up and say, ‘Well I knew you couldn’t do it.’ ” She added that the pressure was amplified by the fact that when she and Sturgess were filming in London, Hathaway saw people all across the city reading the book. The cover of the novel’s U.K. edition is orange, and Hathaway said it would freak her out to see “One Day” so prominently featured in every bookstore she walked into. “At night, it kind of lights the streets of London,” Sturgess joked. People who want to walk into “One Day” spoiler-free might not be too psyched to hear that both Hathaway and Sturgess say they prefer “ill-fated, tear-inducing” romantic films as opposed to ones that end happily ever after. That news certainly doesn’t bode well for the love story between their onscreen characters. While Sturgess said he feels that way because he’s “just cynical,” Hathaway explained that she feels tragic romantic stories stay with a person longer. “If something’s happily ever after, yay, you’re happy for them, but what else do you feel about it? When something rips your guts out, you’re more inclined to remember it,” she explained. Photos from the Pittsburgh set continue to reveal new bits of the Christopher Nolan flick. By Eric Ditzian The Batwing on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Ultra-secretive “Dark Knight Rises” director Christopher Nolan has met his match in the city of Pittsburgh. The filmmaker is famous for keeping his actors on spoiler-dishing lockdown, with “Inception” star Joseph Gordon-Levitt once telling us how his boss “very specifically asked [him] not to talk about” the mind-bending thriller and Anne Hathaway joking about taking a blood oath not to reveal anything about her role of Catwoman. Check out photos of the Batwing on the set of “Dark Knight Rises”! But as “Rises” continues to shoot on location in Pittsburgh, almost every day brings a fresh batch of spoiler-filled photos and videos about the comic-book flick. The latest is the first glimpse of what appears to be the Batwing, the Caped Crusader’s signature aircraft. The aircraft appears to utilize fan-driven engines and be made of a series of interlocking plates, indicating that the ship may have some sort of shape-shifting quality. Such a transformational vehicle wouldn’t be out of place in Nolan’s Gotham City; in the “Dark Knight,” part of Batman’s Tumbler turned out to contain a hidden Batpod. A YouTube video from set shows the Batwing being driven down a street during the shoot, its massive body gyrating back and forth, a Batman dummy placed in the cockpit. In his many comic book, TV and film incarnations, Batman has long had an aerial vehicle. Tim Burton, in 1989’s “Batman,” introduced the idea of (and the name for) the Batwing. Nolan thus far has not delivered anything of the sort. “Dark Knight Rises,” however, seems to be utilizing a slew of vehicles for the film, from a bunch of camouflaged Tumblers to Hathaway’s Catwoman on the Batpod itself to this new aircraft. And while we know far more at this point about “Dark Knight Rises” than we ever could have expected, and certainly more than Nolan would likely prefer, there remains much we don’t know. Even what we have seen, Hathaway let MTV News know, doesn’t give everything away. “What I am happy to say is: If you didn’t like the photo,” she said of the first look at her in character as Catwoman , “you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Citizens of Pittsburgh, your local authorities have a message for you: If you hear gunshots, carnage, or superhero antics in your streets this weekend, do not assume that it’s because The Dark Knight Rises is filming. According to a report, Pittsburgh police want the city’s residents to dial 911 any time a mysterious noise disturbs them — even if it’s clearly just Christian Bale hollering about craft services and commanding Anne Hathaway to step away from his finger sandwich. The authorities have Pittsburgh’s best interest in mind, but still — I hope they aren’t deluged with reports of a rowdy thug who keeps claiming to be through with batsuits professionally. First, we got a look at Tom Hardy as Bane . Now, Warner Bros. has released the first photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, as she takes to the streets in a fun ride: The iconic character was introduced by Julie Newmar in the 1966 Batman TV series. Since then, Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry have all donned the slick, leather black outfit of Catwoman. While Hathaway won’t reveal anything about her version – “I signed a blood oath,” she said upon accepting the role – at least we now have an idea of what she’ll look like. Thoughts? The Dark Knight Rises comes out on July 20, 2012.
If you think the comedic body-switch is a tired movie conceit, you’re not alone — or rather, you’re not original: We were thinking that way back in 1989! In a new video that mashes up the trailer for The Change-Up with Big , Vice Versa , Freaky Friday , 13 Going on 30 and many others, we see just how formulaic this cinematic trope can be.
