Is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World the Same Movie as Twilight?

Sure, both Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and The Twilight Saga are page-to-screen adaptations with ardent fanbases, but the boys in Scott Pilgrim’s corner wouldn’t be caught dead seeing a Twilight movie of their own volition. The irony? Underneath Scott Pilgrim’s geeky exterior and Twilight’s swoony romance novel trappings, they may actually be the same movie.

Sandra Bullock Tops Forbes List Of Top-Earning Actresses

Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Aniston also on the list. By Gil Kaufman Sandra Bullock Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic It’s been a rough personal year for Sandra Bullock in the wake of her breakup with husband Jesse James. But according to Forbes magazine, in the midst of her difficult times offscreen, the actress managed to rack up a huge financial payday and rise to the top as the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. Besting such rivals as Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz, Bullock earned that distinction thanks to a pair of huge hits: “The Proposal,” which grossed $320 million; and “The Blind Side,” which racked up $310 million and helped her earn an Academy Award. While Bullock wisely agreed to take a pay cut from her usual fee to star in “Blind Side,” she got it back and then some in back-end pay, earning $56 million on both films between June 2009 and June 2010, according to Forbes. The magazine calculated its figures based on conversations with agents, managers, producers and lawyers. Next on the list was perennial girl-next-door Witherspoon, who banked $32 million despite not having a big-screen opening since “Four Christmases” bowed during the 2008 holiday season. But she made the #2 spot thanks to her upfront pay for two upcoming movies, “How Do You Know?” and the adaptation of “Water for Elephants,” co-starring “Twilight” hunk Robert Pattinson. She also earned cash for her role as an “ambassador” for Avon. Diaz tied Witherspoon at #2, also with $32 million, which she earned on the Tom Cruise film “Knight & Day” and her sizable income from the “Shrek” franchise, which has earned $2.8 billion to date. Aniston was at #4 with $27 million, which she earned from her appearance in the box-office disappointment “Love Happens,” as well as her upcoming roles in “The Switch” and the Adam Sandler-assisted “Just Go With It.” She also still gets residual checks from “Friends” and has her own perfume line and a lucrative deal with Smartwater. “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker was at #5 with $25 million, rolling up cash from the movie franchise and profits from the series’ syndication rights, as well as her strong-selling perfume line and a deal to design clothes for Halston. The rest of the list: Julia Roberts ($20 million), Angelina Jolie ($20 million), Drew Barrymore ($15 million), Meryl Streep ($13 million) and “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart ($12 million). ‘Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ To Be Released November 2012

‘Twilight Saga’ finale avoids glut of summer blockbusters with fall release. By Kara Warner “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner Photo: John Gress/ Getty Images For better or worse, the end is in sight, Twilighters. Summit Entertainment has announced the official release date for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2.” The final film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series is scheduled to open in theaters on November 16, 2012. When Summit revealed that “Breaking Dawn” would be split into two films — with the first film’s release date set for November 18, 2011 #&8212; there was much speculation that the final chapter would drop the following summer. This news puts the second film out almost a full year after Part 1, no doubt creating an excruciating waiting period for the film franchise’s extremely dedicated fans. With no official statement accompanying the news of Part 2’s release date, we, too, can only speculate as to why Summit has chosen to wait a full year between releasing the two films. One likely reason is the already-crowded summer 2012 movie calendar, which has been padded with several other highly anticipated and established franchise films. “The Avengers,” “Madagascar 3” and “Men in Black 3” all open in May; June will deliver a “Star Trek” sequel; the re-booted “Spider-Man” is nestled in the July 4 slot (occupied this year by “Eclipse”), followed closely by another “Ice Age” and a third “Batman.” Now that both films’ release dates are set, there are a few other unresolved “Dawn” issues, namely the MPAA rating and whether director Bill Condon will choose to film the two parts in 3-D. “That decision has yet to be made,” Summit distribution chief Richie Fay told MTV of the rating question last month. “It’s still the source of a discussion.” The 3-D conversation, on the other hand, involves both financial and creative decisions. “There’s certainly a financial part of the discussion,” Ray said. “And yes, there’s a certain amount of technology that has to be considered and accounted for. But it really comes down to the creative folks. “In any of these roundtable conversations, [Summit CEO] Rob Friedman has always been concerned about the ‘Twilight’ patron,” Fay added. “His concern is always the people that come in to see this movie. He doesn’t want to turn them off or offend. That’s why it’s a creative decision. A big factor is the perception of our audience. What are their feelings going to be? If it lends itself to being a better movie because of 3-D, then that’s the technology we’ll use.” What do you think of the “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” release date? What’s On: Top Chef Makes Cold Cuts

Breaking Dawn to Feature Skin-on-Skin Action, Horrible Birth Scene

While Eclipse continues to rake in the box office dough, Melissa Rosenberg is already looking ahead to Breaking Dawn . That movie’s screenwriter spoke to Hollywood Life recently and shared scintillating news with Twilight Saga fans. Simply put, she said: “We want the eroticism of the sex scenes.” Just how much of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will viewers see? Rosenberg remained coy, but added: “If you really look at the books, how much are you really seeing? I think [the movies] might wind up being saucier than the book because you’re actually seeing skin-on-skin and the horror of the birth scenes. We’re not shying away from it.” Meanwhile, it’s already been confirmed that Breaking Dawn will be split into two movies. But where in the story will this take place? “We’re still debating the exact moment,” Rosernberg said. “But it’ll fall down to the first half of Bella as a human and being pregnant and a newlywed and the second half being Bella as a vampire and a parent. Somewhere in the middle of that, the break will come.” The first installment of Breaking Dawn will hit theaters on November 18, 2011.

Brace Yourself for the Justin Bieber Biopic

Justin Bieber may not have to wait for that Valentine’s Day sequel to make his bigscreen debut. Hollywood Life reports that the adorable 16-year-old hairstyle is developing his own biopic in the vein of Eminem’s 8 Mile , and naturally, he’d star. To he honest, I’d really rather see Kristen Stewart take that role. She’d nail it! [ Hollywood Life ]

REVIEW: Despicable Me Delivers With Retro Zest to Spare

We’ve lost something now that elaborate, sophisticated full-length animated movies have become big business in Hollywood: Technical proficiency is up. But disreputability is way, way down. Pixar has set the bar high for superior quality, perceived classiness, and allegedly deep, soulful thematic undercurrents, and other studios have scrambled to compete. Even Dreamworks’ Shrek movies, with their piled-on pop-culture references and ever-so-gentle boogery gross-outs, feel highly mechanized rather than breezy. Nothing in animation feels casual anymore, and worse, so much of it is designed to encourage good behavior and love for our fellow human beings. No anvils falling on heads, no coyotes being blown up by TNT. It’s enough to make you make you want to blast your own duckbill off with a shotgun. At last, Universal offers a raygun of hope with Despicable Me, a picture that manages to feel both original and pleasingly nostalgic without straining for either effect.
