Do you think this guy’s a good doer ?? According to The Huffington Post , he donated half of the proceeds made in two days to Hurricane Sandy victims: The dealer said he didn’t care about the implications of turning drug money into supplies for victims in the Rockaways, N.Y., some of whom are still without power. He just wanted to help out, and raised $700 for the cause. “Look, there are probably some people down there [in the Rockaways] who want some marijuana — but that’s not going to clothe and feed them,” he said. “So in order for me to help, I needed to turn what I do into something concrete that I could give to them.” The college-educated weed dealer said he saw the devastation in Breezy Point — where some 80 homes flooded and burned to the ground — and decided it was time to make some green for the victims. He alerted his clientele last Monday that he would be donating, and the calls started coming in. He’s no Pablo Escobar, but the dealer claims he did make $1,400 in those two days, amounting to $700 that will go toward hot meals, diapers, formula, clean water and other supplies that people on the Rockaway Peninsula still desperately need. HuffPost crime confirmed that he bought 50 wool blankets that will likely go to residents who are still without power. “Yes, I made a little extra money for myself those two days,” he told HuffPost Crime. “But [my clients] are getting something they’d already get anyway. I was going to work regardless, and now I felt like I was doing it with purpose … I’m not doing what I do in order to get rich or create some super marijuana empire. I’m trying to help, and this is my job.” Love or hate his source of revenue, you’ve got to give him credit for giving part of his ‘salary’ to charity. It’s a lot more than most have done! Aye, aye, aaaa-aye… Oregon, Colorado, Washington Vote On Mary Jane Legalization Next Month According to Huffington Post On a Monday teleconference call, former Drug Enforcement Agency administrators and directors of the Office of National Drug Control Policy voiced a strong reminder to the U.S. Department of Justice that even if voters in Colorado, Oregon and Washington pass ballot measures to legalize Mary Jane use for adults and tax its sale, the legalization of Mary Jane still violates federal law and the passage of these measures could trigger a “Constitutional showdown.” The goal of the call was clearly to put more pressure on Attorney General Eric Holder to make a public statement in opposition to these measures. With less than 30 days before Election Day, the DOJ has yet to announce its enforcement intentions regarding the ballot measures that, if passed, could end Mary Jane prohibition in each state. “Next month in Colorado, Oregon and Washington states, voters will vote on legalizing Mary Jane,” Peter Bensinger, the moderater of the call and former administrator of the DEA during President Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan administrations, began the call. “Federal law, the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court decisions say that this cannot be done because federal law preempts state law.” Bensinger added: “And there is a bigger danger that touches every one of us — legalizing Mary Jane threatens public health and safety. In states that have legalized medical Mary Jane, drug driving arrests, accidents, and drug overdose deaths have skyrocketed. Drug treatment admissions are up and the number of teens using this gateway drug is up dramatically.” Really?? So everyone starts smoking the gan-jay and gets violent and reckless?? Sounds like the opposite of what we see most folks doing while lifted, but ok… Here’s how the sticky-icky would be taxed of these legalization measures are voted to life. In Colorado, if Mary Jane is legalized it would be taxed and regulated similar to alcohol and tobacco. It would give state and local governments the ability to control and tax the sale of small amounts of Mary Jane to adults age 21 and older. According to the Associated Press, analysts project that that tax revenue could generate somewhere between $5 million and $22 million a year in the state. An economist whose study was funded by a pro-pot group projects as much as a $60 million boost by 2017. In Washington, a 25 percent excise tax would be in place if the state passes Initiative 502, which state revenue experts say could generate as much as $1.9 billion over the next five years, The Seattle Times reported. If passed, the initiative would allow adults 21 and older to buy up limited amounts of Mary Jane or Mary Jane-infused food products and would create state-licensed growers and retailers. The Associated Press reports that if Washington’s I-502 passes: Public use or display of Mray Jane would be barred. No Mary Jane facilities could be located near schools, day cares, parks or libraries. Employers would still be able to fire workers who test positive for pot. It would remain illegal to privately grow Mary Jane for recreational use, though medical patients could still grow their own or designate someone to grow it for them. It would be illegal to drive with more than 5 nanograms of THC, the active ingredient of cannabis, per milliliter of blood, if the driver is over 21; for those under 21, there would be a zero tolerance policy. That’s a LOT of money that states could earn for allowing a lil’ dojia smoke. Considering how tight some state budgets are for schools, roads, and other public needs, an few extra million bucks could go a long way. Would you vote for legalization? Why? Breezy’s drug test came back positive when he checked in with the Judge today … Homeboy actually got off pretty easy, especially considering that he was in a Virgina court of law. With little more than a slap on the wrist and a “stern” warning, Chris wrapped things up in less than an hour and took his medical mary jane card with him. According to TMZ… Chris Brown tested positive for mary jane recently in Virginia, where smoking green is illegal, but the judge said she would NOT revoke his probation. Chris was just in court for a probation progress report hearing in his felony battery of Rihanna — and according to probation report docs … Brown failed a drug test on June 18 in Virginia, where he was fulfilling his court ordered community service. According to probation report, Chris told his probation officer he had smoked in California — where he has a medical sticky-icky prescription — and then failed the test in Virginia, where herb is illegal … prescription or no prescription. Judge Patricia Schnegg said she never ordered Brown to undergo mandatory drug testing as part of his probation, so she cut him a break … this time … letting him off with a stern reminder to obey all laws. Schnegg also ordered Brown’s entire case moved back to California because that’s where he lives now. Judge Schnegg also ordered Brown to meet with his probation officer within 72 hours to sort out a discrepancy in community service hours — prosecutors say he had 121 hours left to complete as of August 15th, but Chris’ attorney, Mark Geragos insists he has less than that on his tab. We’re just wondering who the hell lights up a couple months before they’ve got court to go to for a probation hearing?? Guess God really heard those thoughts and prayers from his ex-boo-thang Rih Rih. Images via gettyimages
This isn’t your average mary story! After 20 years of research, a pair of scientists have found proof that sticky-icky doesn’t just help ease the pain for those going through chemo treatments…it also prevents the cancer from spreading! For those opposed to using Mary because of the “effects”, they can have a good nights sleep; the form of CBD scientists used is non-toxic and non-hallucinogenic…so you won’t have to worry about your loved ones trippin’ while they’re on their treatments. According to The Huffington Post… “It took us about 20 years of research to figure this out, but we are very excited,” said Pierre Desprez, one of the scientists behind the discovery, to The Huffington Post. “We want to get started with trials as soon as possible.” Desprez, a molecular biologist, spent decades studying ID-1, the gene that causes cancer to spread. Meanwhile, fellow researcher Sean McAllister was studying the effects of Cannabidiol, or CBD, a non-toxic, non-psychoactive chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Finally, the pair collaborated, combining CBD and cells containing high levels of ID-1 in a petri dish. “What we found was that his Cannabidiol could essentially ‘turn off’ the ID-1,” Desprez told HuffPost. The cells stopped spreading and returned to normal. “We likely would not have found this on our own,” he added. “That’s why collaboration is so essential to scientific discovery.” “We started by researching breast cancer,” said Desprez. “But now we’ve found that Cannabidiol works with many kinds of aggressive cancers–brain, prostate–any kind in which these high levels of ID-1 are present.” Desprez hopes that clinical trials will begin immediately. “We’ve found no toxicity in the animals we’ve tested, and Cannabidiol is already used in humans for a variety of other ailments,” he said. Indeed, the compound is used to relieve anxiety and nausea, and, since it is non-psychoactive, does not cause “high” associated with THC. While marijuana advocates will surely praise the discovery, Desprez explained that it’s not so easy as just lighting up. “We used injections in the animal testing and are also testing pills,” he said. “But you could never get enough Cannabidiol for it to be effective just from smoking.” Furthermore, the team has started synthesizing the compound in the lab instead of using the plant in an effort to make it more potent. “It’s a common practice,” explained Desprez. “But hopefully it will also keep us clear of any obstacles while seeking approval.” Hopefully ignorant politicos opposed to using maryjane as a form of treatment will be more open-minded in this case. If we can help at least one family member who’s fallen to this destructive disease we’ll take that for progress! Images via shutterstock
Jamaica Offended By Mugabe’s Remarks On People Being Drunk And Lazy Comments by an African leader portraying the men of Jamaica as chronic drunkards and unambitious pot smokers have become the talk of towns across this Caribbean island. People are debating the matter on street corners, in letters to the editor and on radio talk shows. In unscripted asides during a roughly three-hour speech last week at a research exposition, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said Jamaican “men are always drunk,” have no interest in higher education, and people freely smoke chronic. “The men want to sing and do not go to colleges, some are dreadlocked. Let us not go there,” Mugabe told the crowd at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare. His comments in a mixture of both English and the Shona language were corroborated by The Associated Press after speaking to several reporters who attended the gathering. Over the years, Mugabe has repeatedly made disparaging remarks about dreadlocked Rastafarians, whom he once described as having “moths and mud” in their hair. Rastafarianism, best known for its ritual use of chronic and the dreadlock hair style worn by followers, emerged in Jamaica in the 1930s out of anger over the oppression of blacks. A small minority of Jamaicans are adherents. Glen Harris, a laborer and father of two children, said he felt irritated when he heard about the Zimbabwean president’s chiding remarks on a local radio program. Like the large majority of Jamaica’s population, Harris is black. “This is an African leader talking like this? Black man should stick up for each other. We’re all Africans,” he said on a Kingston street of low-slung concrete buildings and sheet metal fences. Although some foreigners have an image of Jamaica as a laid-back, sun-soaked slice of paradise where unhurried people smoke marijuana without a care, marijuana use is illegal and many islanders are socially conservative churchgoers who quietly endure stereotypes of their country. Still, a few Jamaicans aren’t aggrieved with Mugabe, who received a top government honor during a 1996 visit. They note that their island is the largest producer of marijuana in the Caribbean and that far more women graduate from university than men, and say Mugabe may have a point, even if he was being overly broad by disparaging Jamaican men. “Is President Robert Mugabe really on to something? Certainly, his observation that our ‘universities are full of women’ while our ‘men want to sing and do not go to colleges’ is a truism, which none can deny,” Northern Caribbean University administrator Vincent Peterkin wrote in a letter to the editor of The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper. Jamaican Information Minister Sandrea Falconer said Wednesday that the foreign affairs ministry, led by A.J. Nicholson, was still trying to confirm if Mugabe made the remarks. “I know his ministry is still trying to authenticate the source, and after we will respond,” Falconer said in a brief phone interview. In a written statement, Nicholson stressed that “Jamaican men and women from all walks of life have made valuable contributions to national development and have made their mark on the world stage.” Thoughts?? Didn’t expect to hear that… Paul Ryan Supports State Decision For Legal Medicinal Drugs In an interview with Colorado station KRDO-TV, Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan says he believes it’s up to the states to decide whether to legalize medical mary jane. “My personal position on these issues has been let the states decide what they want to do with these things,” he explains. “This is something that is not a high priority of ours.” Pun intended? Voters in Colorado will decide whether to legalize medical mary jane this November with Amendment 64 on the ballot. According to KRDO-TV, Ryan made clear that he “doesn’t believe” in the effort, but he nevertheless feels the issue should be reconciled at the state level. Here is what “Money Makin” Mitt says about the sticky-icky: Campaigning in New Hampshire during the GOP primary, Mitt Romney was asked on several occasions whether he supported medical mary jane. He became visibly frustrated. “I have the same position this week I had last week when you asked the question,” he said, before arguing fairly loosely that medical mary jane should be banned because it might lead to broader mary jane legalization, which might in turn lead pot smokers to try hard drugs. “The entryway into our drug culture for our young people is mary jane,” Romney said. “mary jane is the starter drug. And the idea of medical mary jane is designed to help get mary jane out into the public marketplace and ultimately lead to the legalization of mary jane overall. And in my view, that’s the wrong way to go.” Those folks on the Republican side of things might not like this too much. Image via Shutterstock Source
Actor Kal Penn’s puff, puff, passin’ some accolades to his boy Barack. Better known as the irresponsible stoner in the Harold & Kumar movie series, Kal repped for POTUS during last night’s DNC opening. Yahoo News caught up with Penn inside the Time Warner Cable Arena after his convention speech and asked about his thoughts on Obama’s sticky icky policy record. Of course, Penn is an actor and not a marijuana policy activist. But after his appearance in the campaign video, we had to ask. “I feel like I get this question because of the nature of the movies I’m in, and I know that you wouldn’t ask Anthony Hopkins whether he eats people in real life after ‘Silence of the Lambs,’” Penn said. “So I’m just going to call you out on that.” Fair enough (although appearing in an Obama video as a stoner makes it fair game.) “But,” he went on to say, “I think that the president’s been pretty consistent with that. He’s not in favor of legalization, we should be open about something like that. But what the president has done is take a really smart look at the Department of Justice and said, given the fact that the federal government has limited resources, we should be allocating them toward violent criminals and not towards nonviolent criminals. We can see that not just in things like mary but in things like immigration reform where he’s going after and deporting violent criminals and making sure that if you’re a DREAM Act eligible student that you know that you can apply for your deferred status. Wherever the federal government has an appropriate role, I think the president’s been very consistent in that. That’s something that I think folks should know.” While the Justice Department has made small changes to its drug law enforcement approach, civil libertarians have taken Obama’s administration to task for continuing federal prosecution of sticky icky dispensaries that operate legally under state laws. In 2004, then-Illinois state Sen. Obama called the “war on drugs” an “utter failure” and called for herb to be decriminalized, but he has tread carefully on the issue during his presidency. When asked if he thought federal policies on green were appropriate, Penn said he didn’t know. “I’m not an herb expert,” he said. “That’s a weird question.” No coincidence that Kal didn’t bring up Barack’s drug policy record during his speech…but we all know he’d like that isht legalized. A new survey shows most numbers are up when it comes to teens and that mary jane , drinking, and more. Looks like that stick-icky is being bought by teenager’s more often than we thought. While Mayor Bloomberg is trying to make the whole city healthy, our kids are going to pot! The percentage of city teens who get high on weed jumped to 17.7 percent last year — by far the highest rate during Hizzoner’s 10-year tenure, according to a new health survey obtained by The Post. The blunt figure is up from the 12.3 percent who smoked weed in 2005. “Every kid my age does it, but it is not a good thing,’’ said Catherine Reyes, 16, of Brooklyn. “They can end up in bad situations.” The boost in marijuana use was just one of the alarming findings in the biannual youth-risk behavior survey put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention… The same report also found that nearly a third of underage teens drink booze. In another blow to the health-conscious “Nanny’’ Bloomberg, the statistics show that many city kids are big couch potatoes, too. More than one in four — 28 percent — are overweight or obese, and 21 percent still drink sugary soda, although that’s down from 28 percent in 2005… Part of teens’ problem is 80 percent don’t get the recommended 60 minutes of daily exercise. Nearly six in 10 kids said they don’t have daily gym class in school. In New York, it’s not a requirement in high school. Half of the teens surveyed don’t even ride a bike. Instead, 44 percent play video games or surf the Web for fun on school days, and 38 percent watch more than three hours of TV daily…For many teens, sex seems to be their only physical activity. Nearly 38 percent said they’ve already had sexual intercourse — almost half before age 13. Despite the findings, a Health Department rep insisted, “New York City youth remain in better shape than their peers around the country when it comes to physical education and obesity, as well as rates of alcohol and illicit drug abuse.” Tell us what you think about youngins these days tokin’ at such an early age?
