The aftermath of an alleged animal cruelty scandal continues to affect A Dog’s Purpose. The movie, which launches nationwide on January 27, is under major fire across the country and across the Internet as a result of footage that surfaced online this week. The footage in question depicts a German Shepherd named Hercules, clearly agitated and frightened about a stunt that involves throwing him into gushing water. But a camera on set caught the dog’s handler tossing the poor animal into the water anyway. TMZ shared the video (below) on Wednesday and the fallout has been swift. Josh Gad, who voices the dog in the movie, and director Lasse Halstrom, have both spoken out against the treatment of Hercules, while PETA has pushed for a boycott of A Dog’s Purpose. The film centers around a canine who gets reincarnated several times while trying to figure out the meaning of life. Now, in the middle of this controversy, we can confirm that the red carpet premiere of the movie has been canceled. So has the press junket in which stars such as Gad and Dennis Quaid would have talked to reporters about the movie. A Dog’s Purpose Footage: Animal Cruelty at Play? Production company Amblin Entertainment has said it is reviewing the above video and added via statement on Thursday: “Since the emergence of the footage, Amblin has engaged with many associated with the production of the film, including safety personnel, trainers and stunt coordinators as part of their in-depth review. “While we are all disheartened by the appearance of an animal in distress, everyone has assured us that Hercules the German Shepherd was not harmed throughout the filmmaking.” That’s good to know. But the argument can be made that the intention to harm, or the disinterest in whether or not the dog was harmed, is the real issue here. Actor KJ Apa, who also appears in the film, shared his take on this scandal yesterday via Twitter. “First things first, I LOVE ALL ANIMALS and would never EVER condone inhumane treatment or abuse of an animal at any time,” he wrote in a lengthy message. “I was saddened to see the footage from the set of A Dog’s Purpose—a film I was honored to act in, in 2015. “The video was hard to watch, and I understand why many of you have had the reactions that you did because I had the same ones. “The footage is still being investigated, from my own experience, I only encountered cast and crewmembers who had unconditional love and respect for every single dog on set, and went to great lengths to assure their safety and wellbeing.” Concluded Apa: “I want you guys to know that I would NEVER attach myself to a project that didn’t treat animals with the utmost care, and honestly, the possibility that an animal could’ve been hurt is troubling to me. “I have been assured that Hercules is happy and healthy.” The questionable scene was shot in Winnipeg, Canada, in November 2015. It’s unclear why the footage was only released now. Once it was was made public, however, PETA asked animal lovers to boycott the film “to send the message that dogs and other animals should be treated humanely, not as movie props.” After taking a look at the footage, Lisa Lange, PETA’s senior vice president, added: “This movie is directed towards those who love dogs and, clearly, this is not a dog’s purpose.” The flick is based on W. Bruce Cameron’s bestselling novel of the same. The irony here, of course, is that it’s intended to honor dogs and the impact they have on their human owners. Here is what Gad has said about the unfortunate situation: A few months ago, I was approached to lend my voice to the film A Dog’s Purpose. As I sat in a dark screening room, I was beyond touched and moved by what I saw…a movie that captures the beauty and pain of loving a pet. I signed on for a film that truly stands out as one of the most beautiful love letters to animals I have ever seen. Today, however, I saw a disturbing video that appears to show a scared German Shepherd being forced to perform a stunt on the set of this film. While I do not know all the details and cannot speak to the level of care and caution that went into this moment (as I was never on set for the making of this film), I am shaken and sad to see any animal put in a situation against its will. As a proud dog owner and a fervent supporter of organizations like PETA. I have reached out to the production team and studio to ask for an explanation. On Thursday, Miguel Ferrer died after a lengthy battle against cancer. He was 61 years old. Best known for roles on NCIS: Los Angeles, RoboCop, and Twin Peaks, Ferrer was also the son of singer Rosemary Clooney and actor Jose Ferrer. Tarek and Christina El Moussa have put on a good front since their separation of approximately six months became public late last year. Sources say they are far less cordial in private, however. The Flip or Flop twosome resumed filming this week amidst a divorce that few fans of the hit HGTV show could’ve ever seen coming. But are they really as amicable as they’ve repeatedly said over the past few weeks, or flipping out on each other behind the scenes? A recent report from Radar would tell you the latter. “Tensions are ridiculous on the set with Tarek and Christina,” an production insider said. “Tarek yells at her in front of production.” “He is constantly putting her down,” the source adds. “He says he blames her for leaking information about their split and he thinks that she sabotaged their marriage,” the insider claims. It’s still unclear how that information went public. Last spring, Tarek stormed out of the house with a gun after a blowout fight with Christina. No charges were filed over the “misunderstanding.” TMZ broke the story, however, and thanks to a statement they put out afterward, we learned Tarek and Christina El Moussa separated . The insider says Christina may have leaked the story, knowing it would hurt his chances of getting his own series after Flip or Flop . At least that’s what her estranged husband thinks. According to this source, Tarek El Moussa “even seems to think that now she is trying to sabotage his chances of getting a spin-off.” Whether that’s even remotely true is debatable, but we do know Christina had started a relationship with a new man, contractor Gary Anderson . We also know that this report isn’t unique. While both reality stars are still saying the right things in public – Tarek slammed fake news and gossip this week – questions linger. A new report from In Touch Weekly suggests that Tarek and Christina now have separate publicists, following years of sharing representation. As co-hosts of the aforementioned HGTV series, that’s somewhat significant, given how committed they are to their show and family. The magazine claims that the signs of problems don’t end there, as Tarek would insult Christina with “vulgar language” in deleted scenes. Tarek, the source claims, even threatened her, “[saying] he would perform a heinous violent act against Christina on more than one occasion.” He allegedly made Christina run into the car and “cry” in between takes due to his inappropriate behavior and incessant anger issues. That last rumor is consistent with the infamous fight last year, when Christina El Moussa was reported to be “shaking” as Tarek stormed out. After the scandal broke, Tarek and Christina acknowledged it and said: “[We] will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.” “We are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be.” The parents to Taylor, 6, and Brayden, 1, were reportedly forced by the network to put their differences aside and honor their contracts. He didn’t address the specific, scathing allegations made in recent days, but his statement speaks for itself when he calls it all “lies.” He even takes a shot at “fake news,” as other famous people have. “I will keep my focus on what matters most, which is co-parenting our children and working hard on our business,” he says. And he’ll do so despite “the lies, innuendo, salacious gossip and ‘fake news’ that is thrown at me from irresponsible media outlets via anonymous sources.” Whatever you believe, that’s a quality denial right there. Not overly defensive, but not mincing words either.

According to a bombshell new report, Jenner has a scheme up her very expensive sleeve, one that will combine her family’s reality show with her family’s number-one nemesis in an attempt to rid the latter from her life once and for all. We write, of course, about Blac Chyna. The moody fiancee of Rob Kardashian, Chyna has clashed with Kris and company for years. It all started awhile back, after Kylie Jenner started dating Chyna’s original baby daddy, Tyga, spending a lot of time with the ex-couple’s son, King Cairo, in the process. This romance effectively killed Chyna’s friendship with Kim Kardashian, as Blac attacked Kylie on multiple occasions over social media. But then she started to actually date Rob, causing yet another rift between this troubled sock maker and his relatives. Presumed at first to be nothing but a farce, or perhaps a PR stunt, Chyna and Rob’s relationship grew stronger and stronger… until they got engaged! And then Chyna got pregnant! And then Chyna gave birth to a little girl named Dream Kardashian in November. Still, despite seemingly integrating herself deeply in the Kardashian-Jenner universe, Chyna has never been fully welcomed by her famous quasi relatives. They even threatened to take Chyna to court after she applied to trademark the name Angela Renee Kardashian. So all of this drama brings us to a new report in In Touch Weekly. The tabloid alleges that Kris Jenner and her loved ones have been “digging up dirt” on Blac Chyna and plan to “present” their findings to Rob some time this spring. With E! cameras rolling, of course. “They will sit him down for an intervention and place an envelope containing all the proof of what she has done on the table in front of him,” a source says of Jenner’s plan, adding: “They want to have a psychologist on hand so they can discuss how Chyna abuses [Rob].” The couple has certainly experienced its shares of ups and downs over the past several months. There was even an instance of Chyna allegedly getting drunk and beating Rob up, so we guess one could refer to that as a form of “abuse.” Although we’re pretty sure Rob doesn’t need the help of his family to understand what happened there. In late December, Rob was hospitalized due to a flare-up of his Diabetes. And the In Touch insider says this incident is what truly set Kris off on a path to destroy Chyna for good. “At first they thought she was a positive influence, but they now believe she is killing him. “So after Rob’s emergency trip to the hospital, his family hatched a plan to get rid of Chyna once and for all.” Keeping Up With the Kardashians comes back to E! with new episodes in March.
