Lady Gaga To Reveal Album Title In September

‘I’ve played my new record for my label and will be announcing my new Album Title in September!’ Gaga tweets. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage Wondering what Lady Gaga plans to call her next album? Well, you’re going to have to wait through the summer to find out. The singer, currently on her controversial Born This Way Tour , tweeted that she will make the announcement this fall. “Exciting news little monsters! I’ve played my new record for my label and will be announcing my new Album Title in September! X,” she wrote. Gaga has, in fact, been playing the record for her bosses and inner circle. She also revealed on Twitter that she spun the new music, her follow-up to 2011’s Born This Way, for her longtime pal Lady Starlight. And her co-manager Vincent Herbert had some of his own teases for Little Monsters in an interview he gave late last month. “[It’s] just [an] insane, great record. She’s on tour right now, but it’s just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her,” he said. “We’re doing it on the road right now, so it’s a little hard, but it’s going to be great.” Though it’s unclear how far along in the recording process she is for the release, in an interview with MTV News in December, she already had the highly anticipated album title in mind. “I’ve started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place,” she said. “I’m excited to put it out, but it’s not done yet. So I’ll put it out when it’s done.” Her producer, Fernando Garibay, confirmed in a separate interview last year that Mother Monster would be working on the album while on tour. “I get a little bit of anxiety thinking about that right now. I wanna just always try to outdo ourselves, our songs. They’re already incredible songs. But I feel like she’s so young,” he said, adding that at the time, the record was in its early stages and that “there’s a lot of room to grow.” “The last record we made in bus stops and hotel rooms,” he said. “Wherever she’s at, we’ll make it.” Related Artists Lady Gaga

Taylor Swift’s Label Inks Groundbreaking Deal With Clear Channel

Artists on Big Machine Records will now receive payment every time their songs are played on Clear Channel radio stations. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images Taylor Swift is in a brand-new relationship. No, she isn’t dating some hot Hollywood star. Instead, Swift’s label, Big Machine Records, has just inked a deal with Clear Channel that will allow artists on the label to get paid for songs played on their radio stations. The label, as well as the performers on it — including heavy hitters like Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts and Reba McEntire — will share the revenue with Clear Channel. Before this deal, the label and its performers did not collect royalties when their songs were played on terrestrial radio; only songwriters and publishers did. Internet radio stations, however, already do pay performers and labels when their songs are played. Under the new deal, Clear Channel will be able to limit payments for songs streamed online, which will enable the growth of digital radio. “Not only does this partnership enable Big Machine to participate in terrestrial broadcast revenues, but we are also helping to grow digital radio,” Scott Borchetta, the label’s president and CEO, said. “[It’s] a great opportunity for all of us and a breakthrough opportunity for Big Machine artists.” But reportedly, it won’t end there. Aceshowbiz.com further reports that Clear Channel will approach more labels for similar deals and Big Machine may ink more of these with other radio conglomerates. “Today, 98 percent of our listening is terrestrial broadcast and 2 percent digital — with record labels and artists only paid for the 2 percent,” John Hogan, chairman and CEO of Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, added in a statement about the landmark deal. “This new agreement expands label and artist participation from just digital to terrestrial broadcast radio revenue in one comprehensive framework that will give all of us a great incentive to drive the growth of the digital radio industry and allow everyone to participate financially in its growth.” This coup for Swift comes just months after she was named the top earner of 2012 by Billboard magazine on their “Music’s Top 40 Money Makers” list . Swift sits at #1 thanks to reported earnings of $35.7 million in the 2011 calendar year. She ranks so high due to quadruple-platinum-plus sales of Speak Now and its accompanying tour, which grossed $88.5 million in the U.S. alone. But she’s hardly resting on her laurels. She is currently hard at work on her follow-up to the release . There is no word yet on when it might drop. Related Videos MTV First: Taylor Swift Related Artists Taylor Swift

Mystikal Gets 81 Days In Jail For Probation Violation

Cash Money CEO Birdman confirms to MTV News that the label will continue to support the New Orleans rapper. By Nadeska Alexis Mystikal Photo: Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images Mystikal inked a new deal with Cash Money Records in December to release his upcoming sixth studio album, Original, but the New Orleans rapper will have to delay work on his LP due to legal troubles. Mystikal, born Michael Tyler, has been sentenced to three months in jail for probation violation. On Monday, Louisiana State District Judge Tony Marabella handed down the three-month sentence for the 41-year-old rapper, who was arrested in February and charged with a misdemeanor for domestic abuse battery. The arrest was in violation of his five-year probation, stemming from sexual battery and extortion charges that landed him in a Louisiana prison from 2004 to 2010 . A spokesperson for Cash Money CEO Birdman issued a statement to MTV News, confirming the label will continue to support Mystikal’s career, emphasizing that the arrest will not affect their relationship. Birdman’s rep added that Mystikal will turn himself in on May 14 to being the sentence, but he will only serve 81 days, since Marabella is crediting him for the nine days he spent behind bars after the February arrest. During a March visit to “RapFix Live,” Mystikal revealed a few details about his anticipated album, including an upcoming collaboration with Cash Money labelmates Drake and Busta Ryhmes. “I’m telling you, this album is gonna be so well worth the wait, Sway, believe that,” Mystikal told MTV News’ Sway Calloway. “Busta [Rhymes] was one of the first artists I worked with when I first came home. Busta came out there, came all the way to Baton Rouge. I’m talking about we got it in.” In mid-March, Mystikal dropped the video for his album’s lead single, “Original,” which featured appearances from Lil Wayne and Birdman and gave fans a glimpse of the luxurious YMCMB lifestyle. Original will be Mystikal’s first album since 2001’s Tarantula. Related Videos Hurricane Mystikal Storms ‘RapFix’ Related Artists Mystikal

Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Concert Film Gets Personal

Trailer for singer’s 3-D flick touches on her divorce from Russell Brand and includes confessions about her career strife. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in the “Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D” trailer Photo: Paramount In between dazzling shots of her onstage, in her music videos and getting dolled up in sparkling costumes, Katy Perry also addresses some real issues in her first full trailer for her 3-D concert film, “Part of Me,” set for release in July. While she doesn’t directly discuss her divorce from actor/comedian Russell Brand in the teaser, the split is referenced by a news headline as Perry is seen getting ready for one of her shows. And that’s not the only personal subject the colorful pop star will open up about in the film. Katy’s Religious Background Perry, now best known for her candy-coated, flirty persona, grew up in a strict, religious family. In the trailer, Perry talks about finding her voice while going to religious services with her family. She says, “The atmosphere I grew up in was 100 percent Christian. I started singing in church; I never really had another plan.” Perry Gets Dropped From her Label While it might seem that Perry went from virtual unknown to chart-topping pop sensation overnight, Perry and her friends open up about the trying time she had between being dropped from her label and eventually finding success. “I was going through some depressing, dark times,” she recalls, “but it’s a journey, and I learned so much from that journey. I feel like a stronger, better person because of it.” California Gurl Live Onstage While the film is about her life behind the scenes, a major part of the movie is her eye-catching California Dreams Tour, which went all around the world in 2011 and early 2012. “You have to be really be grateful and know that it’s a different set of people every single night,” she says of hitting the stage. “My goal when I’m playing shows is just to make people smile.” KP Lives out her California Dreams In the end, Perry’s message is always about living your dream, no matter what strife might come your way. She has this advice for her Katy Cats: “If you have a dream, you gotta go on a journey to fulfill that dream.” “Part of Me” opens July 5. The film was directed by Magical Elves’ Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also served as producers on Justin Bieber’s highly successful “Never Say Never” concert movie. “Part of Me” is also the name of the lead single off Perry’s just-released Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection album. Game Says Going Independent May Be A ‘Really, Really Good Move’

Rapper’s fifth LP, F.I.V.E., could be his last album with Interscope. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Felicia ‘The Poetess’ Morris The Game Photo: MTV News Game only has one LP left on his Interscope contract, and after he drops the follow-up to 2011’s The R.E.D. Album, the platinum-selling Compton rapper will contemplate his musical independence. “Independent. That seems like a really, really good move where I can capitalize off of all the finances being made off of my music for once. But, I don’t know, I kinda like having a lot of help, a lot of assistance from a big label,” Game told MTV News on Thursday. “I don’t know, maybe we’ll have a meeting about a lot of money or I’ll be talking to my conscience.” Earlier this month, Game announced his new album title, F.I.V.E., to XXLMag.com , but it may be some time before it hits shelves. “I haven’t even started working on it yet. I first came up with the album title, which is F.I.V.E., and then came up with its acronym, which is Fear Is Victory’s Evolution,” he explained to MTV News. “It’s got a good concept, and once the budget is open on that I’ll get to rolling.” Game, who was the subject of Thursday night’s “Behind the Music” on VH1, is reluctant to offer up anything resembling a release date due to the multiple push-backs that he’s experienced with The R.E.D. Album. “You what I learned from this last album is to never give anybody a date to anything; I’ll let the label do that when it’s time,” he said. On Wednesday, Game released his “The City” video with Kendrick Lamar. But it looks like that will be the last single he drops off of The R.E.D. Album. “Personally I’d like to just move on and get the budget open for my fifth album, which is something I don’t think Interscope is too much in a rush to do, being that it’s my last contractual, obligated album on the label,” he said. “I would love to just keep it rolling.” Should Game go independent or stick with Interscope?
