The new poster child for frivolous lawsuits, Lady Gaga ‘s former assistant claims she was a slave to the music superstar and demands compensation as a result. Jennifer O’Neill claims she was burdened by onerous tasks such as fetching a towel for Gaga after she showered, and keeping the Lady on a tight schedule! She claims she is owed $380,000 in overtime (7,168 hours over 13 months, or $53 an hour) that she was never paid by a touring company hired by the star. O’Neill claims she had to cater to Gaga in “stadiums, private jets, fine hotel suites, yachts, ferries, trains and tour buses” and “required to be at Gaga’s beck and call.” Isn’t that what a personal assistant does? O’Neill was technically en employee of the touring company, not Gaga, so the singer is not personally liable regardless of the overtime compensation claim. Jacques St. Pierre, 17, was organizing an anti-bullying program at his high school in Toronto and sent messages to dozens of celebrities asking them to voice their support. It was Lady Gaga who came through. “I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you for being such a strong advocate of the LGBT community in your school,” she says looking into the camera. “There should be more little monsters like you.” In a TV interview with the CBC, St. Pierre revealed his own history of being bullied when he was younger. “‘I got called the gay kid, the fag, because I liked to be in the school plays. I lost my best friend because he joined in with the bullies. Lady Gaga ‘s message, songs, videos and performances have made her something of a gay icon for some time, so it’s not surprising she’s about to be honored for her contributions. On December 4, she will receive the Trevor Project’s Trevor Hero Award for her advocacy on behalf to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. “Our young people are at the center of a health crisis, and vocal leaders like Lady Gaga have stepped up to the challenge of helping change our culture,” said David McFarland, interim executive director and CEO of the Trevor Project. “Our honorees are working with the Trevor Project to make a better today and a brighter tomorrow. We are proud to honor Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award for her work to encourage young people to express their true selves with pride.” True to form, the 25-year-old Lady Gaga recently announced the launch of the Born This Way Foundation with her mother, Cynthia Germanotta. The foundation aims to promote “youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and will utilize digital mobilization as a means to create positive change.”
