Ashton Kutcher’s ACM Shtick Ruffles Country-Music Feathers

Miranda Lambert wondered if ‘Two and a Half Men’ star was ‘making fun of country’ with his 10-gallon hat and George Strait sing-along. By Kara Warner Ashton Kutcher presents at the 47th annual Academy Of Country Music Awards Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Ashton Kutcher’s attempt to be part of the country-music crowd at the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday apparently did not go over as well as planned. The “Two and a Half Men” star was on hand to present the award for Female Vocalist of the Year, and he dressed for the occasion by wearing a black 10-gallon hat and country-western-themed duds. Before handing over the silver trophy to Miranda Lambert , Kutcher jokingly attempted to sing a few notes of George Strait’s classic “I Cross My Heart,” which has been met with criticism. Lambert tweeted late Monday that, upon further reflection, Kutcher’s joke might have been inappropriate. “Was Ashton Kutcher making fun of country or is it just me?” she tweeted . “Watching it back now and I’m kinda wondering?” Ashton himself took to Twitter on Tuesday (April 3) to clear the air with the country star. “@Miranda_Lambert I Am One Of The biggest country Music fans you’ve ever met,” he wrote. “Wasn’t making fun at all.” Country singer Justin Moore also wasn’t pleased with Kutcher’s outfit. “Seen Ashton kutcher at the acms tonight. What a douche!” Moore tweeted . “I don’t care for people making a mockery of the way country artists’ dress.” Us Weekly reported that Kutcher’s shtick did not impress members in the audience either. “People were just like ‘why is he here?’ He has nothing to do with country,” one attendee told the mag. “Nobody laughed at his dumb jokes, in fact he came off as rude. He didn’t mingle.” Whose side are you on? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Miranda Lambert

Report: Rehab on the Way for Bobbi Kristina?

Bobbi Kristina Brown will attend her mother’s funeral today in Newark, New Jersey. But sources say her future beyond this memorial is unclear. Insiders tell TMZ that many members of Whitney Houston’s family are pushing for the 18-year old – who was hospitalized twice in the hours following the artist’s passing last weekend – to enter a rehab program… but are waiting until after the funeral to express this hope to Bobbi. A scene outside of Whitney Houston’s funeral. Brown has reportedly battled her own substance abuse problems in the past, as she was supposedly caught snorting cocaine last year. The family wants to learn from the tragedy of her mother, allegedly, and convince the teenager to seek help before it’s too late. But they also want her to properly mourn the parent to whom she was so close first. It’s a complicated situation and we can all just hope Bobbi Kristina comes out of it okay.

Miranda Lambert SLAMS Chris Brown in Concert

Miranda Lambert was an outspoken critic of last Sunday’s Chris Brown Grammy lovefest , ripping CBS and the music extravaganza for Brown’s prominent role. She’s still not over it, calling out the R&B star in concert this week. Country star Lambert wondered aloud on Twitter why the convicted felon was featured on not one but two performances during the Grammy Awards. “Chris Brown twice? I don’t get it. He beat on a girl,” Miranda tweeted, adding “He needs to listen to Gunpowder and lead and be put back in his place.” “Gunpowder and Lead” is her song about a woman preparing to kill her abusive husband. She performed it in concert Thursday – with a message for Brown. Before singing, Lambert pulled a poster out of the audience reading “Take Notes Chris Brown.” “Get a good picture now, put it on Twitter,” she said. “I’ve been in a world of hurt with Chris Brown fans … but see, I have to speak my mind because where I come from beating up on a woman is never okay.” As she sang, Lambert added “So that’s why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun.” The Amherst, Mass., crowd went wild: Miranda Lambert Slams Chris Brown Brown has come under heavy criticism for his response to the “haters” as much as for the infamous 2009 incident in what has become a never-ending story. Should people just get over it and move on? Or is Miranda right in standing up against abusive men, and the Grammys? Choose a side in this feud:

‘Chronicle’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics agree that the supernatural movie brings new life to the found-footage technique. By Kevin P. Sullivan Alex Russell in “Chronicle” Photo: 20th Century Fox With “Chronicle,” found footage comes to the superhero genre. It’s a fun and exciting take on a story you’ve probably heard before, and the critics agree. You can check out MTV’s review over at the Splash Page . We’ve rounded up a mostly spoiler-free sampling of the reviews out there for your reading pleasure. Check out what the critics are saying about “Chronicle.” The Story “Told mostly (we’ll get to that in a bit) through the video-camera lens of a pasty Seattle high school loser named Andrew (Dane DeHaan), the film “documents” the aftermath of his encounter with a mysteriously glowing space rock. Along with friends and fellow discoverers Matt (Alex Russell) and Steve (Michael B. Jordan), Andrew realizes he can levitate objects and possesses super-human strength.” — Ty Burr, Boston Globe The Leads “From the start, there’s an undertow of cruelty to the teenagers’ high jinks as they learn what they can do, as when they levitate a stuffed animal to frighten a child. Mr. Trank brings a light touch to these self-discovery scenes — the three are flexing fast-evolving muscles — as well as a creeping sense of menace. In this respect, Mr. DeHaan, whose vulnerability and physical awkwardness here can evoke the young Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,’ is invaluable. Mr. Russell and Mr. Jordan are as likable as their characters, but it’s Mr. DeHaan who pulls you uneasily in.” — Manohla Dargis, The New York Times The Writer and Director “Sometimes a movie arrives out of the blue that announces the arrival of considerable new talents. Josh Trank is 26, and this is his directing debut. Max Landis, also 26, has written a couple of shorts. His father is the director John Landis, but connections don’t teach you how to write.” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times The Found Footage “One of the cleverest conceits is the way in which shots are framed so that it really does seem as if we’re seeing everything through Andrew’s lens. Helped by the keen eye of cinematographer Matthew Jensen, mirrors — really, any shiny surface — help fill in the settings.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times The Final Word “Bolstered by the natural performances of a trio of little-known actors, the very watchable ‘Chronicle’ keeps us captive throughout.” — Claudia Puig, USA Today Related Videos Talk Nerdy

Adam Lambert Battles Himself In ‘Better Than I Know Myself’

Bad-boy Lambert and nice-guy Lambert are at war with each in new clip. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kelly Marino Adam Lambert Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Adam Lambert dropped his new video for his first Trespassing single, “Better Than I Know Myself,” on Friday (February 3). The video takes a look at the two sides of Lambert: a leather-wearing, liquor-swilling bad boy and a sweater-donning, tea-drinking homebody. During the video, the two personas seem to battle it out in different apartments connected by a clear wall and one oxygen supply. In the end, as the bad Lambert sets his apartment on fire, killing good-guy Lambert’s air supply, the wall breaks down. The good seems to seep into his apartment as he rescues his better half. The video ends with one Lambert, walking down a sun-drenched street, seeming to be at peace with himself. “It’s about the relationship you have with yourself between your dark and light side,” Lambert, who will reportedly hit the road with Queen this summer, explained to MTV News. “It’s about duality. It’s about that balance and finding it and struggling to maintain it and what that means. It’s an emotionally complicated video and I hope people are open-minded about it. I thought really hard and long about what was covered in it and what I was trying to say with it.” The video does seem to nod to his “Whataya Want From Me” clip. “It’s a cousin to that. … There is something similar to ‘Whataya Want From Me.’ I think that domesticated version of myself is my idealistic better version of me,” he explained. “It’s the me I want to be in my right mind. It’s the most happy, content, peaceful, wholesome version of myself.” The clip was directed by Ray Kay (who also worked with Lambert on his “For Your Entertainment” video), and Lambert came up with the treatment with his “Whataya” director, Diane Martel. “I just think visually [Kay’s] so great. He’s so great. He creates great pictures,” he said, adding a big “thank you” to Martel for her help. “It’s a big collaboration of a lot of different ideas.” Related Artists Adam Lambert

‘Before Watchmen’ Comic Books: Cash Grab Or Something More?

‘Talk Nerdy’ team debates the merits of more ‘Watchmen’ stories and breaks down this week’s box-office competitors ‘Chronicle’ and ‘Woman in Black.’ By Josh Wigler “Watchmen” comic Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures After “Watchmen,” comic book fans were left under the impression that there would be no more stories featuring Rorschach, Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl and the rest of their morally ambiguous crime-fighting pals. But that was before “Before Watchmen.” The announcement of new “Watchmen” comic books rocked the fan community to its core, and we’re dealing with the fallout in this week’s round of “Talk Nerdy” madness. Watch the episode below, and keep reading for further nerdiness! Who Watches “Before Watchmen”? Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ most popular characters are returning to the paneled page, but Moore and Gibbons are nowhere to be found. Instead, DC Comics has hired a crew consisting of Darwyn Cooke, Brian Azzarello, J. Michael Straczynski and others to spearhead “Before Watchmen,” a series of seven different comic book titles (each containing no fewer than four issues) debuting later this year. It’s a controversial decision to return to what many consider to be sacred material, sure, but in the eyes of the Nerds, it’s also a no-brainer: How do you turn down buckets filled with million-dollar bills, after all? Get their take on the news, plus some insight from MTV Geek ‘s very own Valerie Gallaher. Spidey Misses “The Avengers” Elsewhere in the superhero space, rumors involving a possible Spider-Man cameo in “The Avengers” were officially shot down this week during a Twitter Q&A with director Joss Whedon . “There is no Spider-Man cameo,” he declared. “But the Avengers do turn off the dark.” Even with a fork in the rumors, the Nerdy crew couldn’t help but wonder about the possibilities of Spidey yukking it up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. See if they were for or against a visit from your friendly neighborhood web-head in your weekly dose of Nerdy. Potter Wears “Black,” Heroes Get Chronicled It continues to be an eventful year at the box office, with not one but two extremely geek-friendly movies hitting theaters this weekend. We’re talking, of course, about the Daniel Radcliffe-starring “Woman in Black” and the found-footage superhero film “Chronicle” from young director Josh Trank. But there’s another movie in the mix that one of our hosts wholeheartedly endorses, a decision so controversial, so outrageous, that his very Nerdy membership is now very much in jeopardy. Intrigued?
