Random Lawsuits: New York Inmates Sue County Of Westchester For $500 Million Over Dental Floss

Wow. These inmates these days are not playing about their oral hygiene!!! According to USA Today: Nearly a dozen jail inmates in New York state are suing the county for $500 million, claiming that the jail’s refusal to let them use dental floss has ruined their teeth, The (Westchester) Journal News reports. Santiago Gomez, 26, who is being held on a gun charges, is lead plaintiff for 11 inmates in the federal suit filed in Manhattan, writes Journal News reporter Jorge Fitz-Gibbon. “We feel that the Westchester County Department of Corrections is depriving inmates of the use of dental floss, which is causing us cavities,” Gomez tells The Journal News by phone. “They recognize the importance of it, that you have to floss, in the regulation manual. They clearly state if you don’t floss you’re going to get cavities.” Westchester Deputy Correction Commissioner Justin Pruyne tells the newspaper that he cannot discuss details of the lawsuit, but notes that the jail is not required under state regulations to provide dental floss to prisoners. SMH. $500 Million though???

That’s Nasty!! London Markets Got Caught Selling Illegal Rat Meat!

This is actually a luxurious delicacy in Ghana… According to the BBC, the meat is illegal in the UK and Europe due to health and safety reasons. Concerns are being raised again after a popular market, which is usually smuggled in via ferries and planes, sold the meat to undercover investigators. Bush meat is wild terrestrial animals hunted for commercial gains. It is considered the opposite of livestock, which is raised for the express purpose of being slaughtered for food. The Ridley Road Market in Dalston, in east London, is apparently known to be a hotbed of illegal activity. It is reported that butchers there conduct sales of illegal “smokies,” a delicacy made by charring goat and sheep with a blowtorch. At least two stores were found to sell “grass cutter” or cane rats, possibly imported from Ghana, where they are a luxury. The practice of “smokies” has been outlawed due to public health and animal welfare concerns. The practice has also been linked to mafia-style gangs in Wales, who steal sheep and goats and slaughter them in unlicensed houses. Bush meat has been a consistent problem for authorities in the UK. The illegal meat products are often smuggled in at the airports or ferries. They fear that the meat could pose risks to consumers, either through eating it or via contamination. A BBC reporter found several stores and butchers selling the meat easily, however. Though not every store participated in the practice, some were easily uncovered. All have knowledge that the practice is illegal. One butcher who sold the meat to the reporter said, “Don’t tell anyone; otherwise, there will be trouble.” Contaminated rat meat??? Sounds like that Zombie epidemic isn’t an impossibility! Images via wordpress

Lawsuits: Dead Man’s Body Found In Waiting Room Chair A Day After Hospital Released Him Following Chest Pains!

Poor Melvin Dillard had a heart attack waiting on his ride home… from the hospital! But that’s not the worst part. No one seemed to notice him suffering from the cardiac episode and after he died, he was in the waiting room so long his body went into rigor mortis before he was found. SMH!!! What kind of janky azz hospital did he go to? Via DelawareOnline : When they found Melvin A. Dillard Jr.’s body in a lobby chair at Beebe Medical Center’s emergency department on June 27, he had been there and deceased so long that rigor mortis had set in. According to a lawsuit filed by the family of the 38-year-old, Dillard had been rushed to the hospital in Lewes with chest pains a day earlier, but was told he could go home by ER staff. Dillard then died of a heart attack, apparently while waiting for transportation, sometime between early Tuesday evening and 10 a.m. Wednesday, when his body was discovered by hospital staff. The family now is alleging medical negligence and wrongful death in a suit against Beebe and Sussex Emergency Associates, which operates the hospital’s ER department, and is seeking damages. The family alleges that given Dillard’s symptoms and history of cardiac issues, he should have been admitted for observation and not sent away. In a statement released Thursday by Beebe, hospital officials said Dillard “was seen, treated appropriately following all protocols and was discharged in stable condition. While sleeping in the lobby waiting for a ride, the individual passed away.” Beebe spokesperson Kelly Griffin said the incident was “fully disclosed” to oversight authorities and investigated. She declined further comment citing patient privacy laws and the pending litigation. Gilbert Shelsby Jr., the attorney representing the Dillard family, declined comment saying that the lawsuit spoke for itself. According to the suit, Dillard, who lived in Newark but worked in Sussex County, experienced chest pains on June 26 and called 911. Dillard was then taken by ambulance to Beebe and arrived at 5:33 p.m., according to court papers. The EMS unit noted Dillard was showing signs “consistent with an impending cardiac event” and upon admission to the ER had an abnormal EKG, according to the suit. It is unclear what happened next, but Dillard was discharged with instructions to follow up with his cardiologist, according to the suit. Because he had arrived by ambulance, Dillard had no way to get back to work or home and went to the lobby to wait for a ride. He apparently called a friend who was not able to get him and Dillard may have been waiting to catch a bus. At some unknown time, Dillard then had a fatal heart attack but no one noticed. “The decedent’s lifeless body remained in the emergency room waiting area until he was found the next day,” according to the lawsuit. When he was found, Dillard was rushed back into the ER where he was pronounced dead. Dillard, however, had apparently been dead for several hours before he was discovered, according to the suit, because medical records indicate rigor mortis had set in. According to reference materials, rigor mortis – the stiffening of the muscles after death – takes several hours to set in. SMH… Do you think the family has a good case? At the very least it seems negligent that no one in the hospital noticed a dead person in their waiting room for so long!

Lawsuits: ACLU Sues The State Of Georgia Over The Triple K Clan’s “Adopt-A-Highway” Ban

The ACLU is going hard for this isht, ehh? The American Civil Liberties Union is suing Georgia on behalf of The Clan. The suit was filed late Thursday afternoon in Fulton County Superior Court. At issue: the Georgia Department of Transportation’s denial of the Clan’s application to put its name on an Adopt-A-Highway sign. The Triple K wants to put its name on the Adopt-A-Highway sign at mile marker 1 on Highway 515 in Union County. The state Department of Transportation turned down the application in June on the grounds that the Klan’s history of violence might trigger social unrest. Now, the ACLU is suing the state on behalf of the clan, defending the Triple K’s right to sponsor a sign and its right to free speech. “The point is the government may not choose what is and is not acceptable. It’s called viewpoint discrimination,” said Debbie Segraves of the ACLU. The DOT told Channel 2′s Diana Davis 173 community and civic organizations are involved in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Those with signs clean up litter on about 200 miles of roads. SMH. Source

Drugs Are Bad M’kay: Millionaire Banker Beatdown By LAPD Sues For $50 Million, Told Cops He Was On Bath Salts

That salt strikes again… Deutsche Bank Executive Beaten By LAPD Sues For $50 Million According to TMZ reports : There’s no doubt … Brian Mulligan — an international banking honcho — was beaten to a pulp by the LAPD — based on photos obtained by TMZ. Mulligan — the Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Media for Deutsche Bank — is unrecognizable in the pics — with severe nasal fractures and lacerations, a concussion, a fractured right scapula, and numerous contusions and abrasions. Although the LAPD claims officers beat and arrested Mulligan after he became violent and threatening … prosecutors declined to file charges. Our sources say prosecutors believe the photos are “clear evidence of excessive force.” Indeed, Mulligan already filed a $50 million claim against the City of L.A. TMZ first reported, Mulligan claims two LAPD cops beat him senseless after wrongfully detaining him … claiming he resembled a person suspected of attempted car theft. Mulligan claims the officers took him to a hotel against his will and when he tried to leave officers brutally attacked him. Mulligan’s lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan and Valerie Wass, tell TMZ cops at the scene conceded Mulligan was NOT under the influence of drugs and they described him as “calm, lucid, and cooperative.” They tell TMZ, “Mulligan had committed no violations of law and was not arrested. No drugs were found during a search of his person or his vehicle, and the officers found absolutely no evidence of drug use by Mulligan.” Despite his lawyer assertion that Mulligan had not used any drugs… An executive of one of the largest banks in the world allegedly told the police during an incident in May that he ingested “white lightning,” which police say is a commercial name for bath salts, CBS reports. Brian Mulligan, the 52-year-old managing director and vice chairman of media and telecommunications for Deutsche Bank, is suing the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for $50 million, claiming he was held captive in a motel room by police officers who then beat him to a pulp. The police report, obtained exclusively by CBS, states that Mulligan was sweating profusely and walking with an unsteady gait when officers responded to reports that he was trying to break into cars in a Jack-in-the-Box parking lot. Mulligan told officers he was being chased and didn’t know why. He also stated that he had ingested “white lightning” and marijuana and that he had not slept for four days… A few hours later, at about 1 a.m., police received another call from the same area, this time about a man running in traffic, Officer Joseph told HuffPost. Mulligan, standing in the street, defied officers’ orders to get out of traffic’s way. Instead, Mulligan bared his teeth, snarled and charged at the officers. Sounds like Brian was high off that isht and bit off a lil’ more than his salty azz could chew. Head HERE to see the graphic picture of Mulligan’s injuries. Source Continue reading

Eff A Technology Thug Robbin’ Patents: Apple Beats Down Samsung In Court Ruling

Steve Jobs is doin’ his happy dance up in heaven right about now. A Jury awarded Apple $1 BILLION dollars worth of “damages” today after Apple accused Samsung of patent infringements on smartphones and tablets. …various Samsung products violated an Apple patent covering the “bounce back” effect when a user scrolls to the end of a list, and the pinch-to-zoom gesture that users make when they want to magnify an image on their screens. Apple had asked the jury to award it $2.5 billion in damages for what it said was Samsung’s violation of a handful of patents related to the physical design and software functions of the iPhone and iPad. In a counter suit, Samsung had demanded that Apple pay it $422 million for its own patent violations. The evidence Apple presented during the trial, including internal Samsung memos and strategy documents, left little doubt that the iPhone inspired a major effort by the Korean manufacturer to overhaul its mobile phone efforts. Guess Samsung and other IT competitors out there got schooled today. You steal from Apple and you’re gonna pay…BIG. Source Images via Shutterstock/Jo Yong-Hak/Reuters

Lance “Hopped Up On That Juice” Armstrong Caves In To Anti-Doping Agency

Say it ain’t so Lance. After fighting accusations for the more than ten years, famed cyclist Lance Armstrong surrendered on Thursday. The seven time Tour de France winning athlete said that he would not continue to contest charges thrown at him by the US Anti-Doping Agency. They’ve been accusing him of being doped up during his unbeatable years and called him out as one of the ringleaders of systematic doping on his team. Declaring “enough is enough,” Lance Armstrong says he will not fight charges brought by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, a stunning decision that will cause him to be stripped of the seven Tour de France titles that turned him into an American hero. USADA confirmed late Thursday it will strip him of all results since Aug. 1, 1998 and ban him from all competition for life. Armstrong said his decision did not mean he would accept USADA’s sanctions. His lawyers threatened a lawsuit if USADA proceeded, arguing the agency must first resolve a dispute with the International Cycling Union over whether the case should be pursued. “It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and our athletic heroes,” USADA CEO Travis Tygart said. “This is a heartbreaking example of how the win-at-all-costs culture of sport, if left unchecked, will overtake fair, safe and honest competition.” Lance rebuttled in his own statement by saying ““If I thought for one moment that by participating in USADA’s process, I could confront these allegations in a fair setting and — once and for all — put these charges to rest, I would jump at the chance,” Armstrong said. “But I refuse to participate in a process that is so one-sided and unfair…I know who won those seven Tours…The toughest event in the world where the strongest man wins. Nobody can ever change that. Especially Travis Tygart.” Lance will lose all of his titles, including his 2000 Olympic Bronze Medal, and all money he won from August 1998 and on! He’s also banned from competing, coaching, or having any official role with any sport that follows the World Anti-Doping Code. Armstrong insists that this is not a defeat for him and backed down so he could focus on his family and his Livestrong Foundation. Must have been some cray isht going on behind closed doors for him to just walk away. SMH Source Images via WENN
