American Idol Finale: Whatever, Let’s Choose the Real Idol

Well, Lee DeWyze won American Idol ‘s ninth season. There he is crying for us all, and it’s not enough. I’m doing my modified Nancy Kerrigan-in-intense-pain impersonation, personally. “De Whyyyyyyyyyy ze! De Whhhhhhyyyy ze!” I caw. Ugh. That conclusion was a billy club to the knee. You could say the show’s ninth season was its worst yet ( I know I did. ), but a Crystal Bowersox win would’ve rectified some of the angst. Instead, Idol served a lukewarm DeWyze victory at the end of what was an otherwise tremendous finale, and now the whole 120 minutes reeks of an abandoned paint store. I said it. Fear not: There’s plenty of good for all of us to discuss from last night’s celebration — namely a ranking of the evening’s top 10 performances. By the time we’re done, we’ll make our decision about Idol ‘s real winner. Haterade on tap!

Crystal Bowersox’s Pre-Idol Busking: A Star Pulling Out of the Station?

Tomorrow’s American Idol showdown may have a new frontrunner in the momentum-accruing Lee DeWyze, but no one can claim GrizzLee Bore deserves the win, right? Crystal Bowersox, Lee’s resilient competitor, has given so many great consecutive performances that many voters are just used to her talents. Thus, the brigade to ensure Crystal’s victory begins here, with these two videos of Mama Sox performing next to an open guitar case at a Chicago train station. Unlike Lee, she’s still just as much of a star even when a Metra is passing behind her at 100 MPH.

American Idol Performance of the Week: Lee DeWyze

Lee DeWyze threw down the real gauntlet, according to Randy Jackson. His rendition of “Hallelujah” was simply stunning, said Ellen DeGeneres. Who to Blame? The 5 Biggest Culprits in American Idol’s Worst Season

Even if Crystal Bowersox ranks among American Idol ‘s finest talents (and I believe she does), something’s rotten in the state of Seacrest this year. Is Casey James the Next American Idol?

There have only been two American Idol seasons where a foregone conclusion actually came to pass — seasons three and four, when Fantasia Barrino and Carrie Underwood exacted pitch-perfect ascents to the Idol coronation ceremony. Since then, we’ve had some sneaky wunderkinds weasel their way to the top: Kris Allen and his acoustic turnabouts won season eight; Jordin Sparks and her youthful trills toppled Melinda Doolittle in season six. And now, in season ten, Casey James could be on his way to derailing the long-favored Crystal Bowersox. Sound crazy? Not when you consider why voters go to pick up the phone.
