It has been revealed that Stephanie Birkett, a former assistant to Letterman and friend/roommate of blackmailer Robert Halderman, was also a member of the extortion plot, though perhaps unknowingly. She is allegedly dismayed with Halderman for using her brief affair with Letterman as the basis for blackmail and the ensuing scandal. We would be too.

Robert “Joe” Halderman has pleaded not guilty to charges that he aimed to extort $2 million from David Letterman. The CBS producer was arraigned in a Manhattan courthouse this afternoon, following his Thursday morning arrest on charges that he threatened to expose Letterman’s affair with staff member Stephanie Birkitt , who was living with Halderman at the time.
