19 Officers Respond After White Neighbor Makes Burglary Call On Santa Monica Woman Locked Out Of Her Own Apartment

Neighbor Makes Burglary Call To Cops On Black Woman Entering Her Own Apartment You guys remember when Skip Gates had a run-in with the cops outside his house? Well apparently that wasn’t an anomaly. We were moved to tears by a recent tale shared by a black female executive named Fay Wells in the Washington Post . In her essay Wells recounts the events of Sept. 6, 2015 when she accidentally locked herself out of her apartment. She was late getting to her soccer game, so she decided to deal with it afterwards. A few hours later she called a locksmith and had just entered her apartment when things got noisy outside: I heard barking. I approached my front window and loudly asked what was going on. Peering through my blinds, I saw a gun. A man stood at the bottom of the stairs, pointing it at me. I stepped back and heard: “Come outside with your hands up.” I thought: This man has a gun and will kill me if I don’t come outside. At the same time, I thought: I’ve heard this line from policemen in movies. Although he didn’t identify himself, perhaps he’s an officer. I left my apartment in my socks, shorts and a light jacket, my hands in the air. “What’s going on?” I asked again. Two police officers had guns trained on me. They shouted: “Who’s in there with you? How many of you are there?” I said it was only me and, hands still raised, slowly descended the stairs, focused on one officer’s eyes and on his pistol. I had never looked down the barrel of a gun or at the face of a man with a loaded weapon pointed at me. In his eyes, I saw fear and anger. I had no idea what was happening, but I saw how it would end: I would be dead in the stairwell outside my apartment, because something about me — a 5-foot-7, 125-pound black woman — frightened this man with a gun. I sat down, trying to look even less threatening, trying to de-escalate. I again asked what was going on. I confirmed there were no pets or people inside. I told the officers I didn’t want them in my apartment. I said they had no right to be there. They entered anyway. One pulled me, hands behind my back, out to the street. The neighbors were watching. Only then did I notice the ocean of officers. I counted 16. They still hadn’t told me why they’d come. And this is exactly why there are such issues in this country. You can’t tell us that if this woman were white she would have been treated like this. They didn’t ask or explain anything!!! I learned that the Santa Monica Police Department had dispatched 19 officers after one of my neighbors reported a burglary at my apartment. It didn’t matter that I told the cops I’d lived there for seven months, told them about the locksmith, offered to show a receipt for his services and my ID. It didn’t matter that I went to Duke, that I have an MBA from Dartmouth, that I’m a vice president of strategy at a multinational corporation. It didn’t matter that I’ve never had so much as a speeding ticket. It didn’t matter that I calmly, continually asked them what was happening. It also didn’t matter that I didn’t match the description of the person they were looking for — my neighbor described me as Hispanic when he called 911. What mattered was that I was a woman of color trying to get into her apartment — in an almost entirely white apartment complex in a mostly white city — and a white man who lived in another building called the cops because he’d never seen me before. The plot thickens too. Once the confusion was sorted out Wells became pretty irate, asking for the names and badge numbers of the officers who responded. She also confronted her dumb neighbor, who wasn’t even apologetic: I introduced myself to the reporting neighbor and asked if he was aware of the gravity of his actions — the ocean of armed officers, my life in danger. He stuttered about never having seen me, before snippily asking if I knew my next-door neighbor. After confirming that I did and questioning him further, he angrily responded, “I’m an attorney, so you can go f— yourself,” and walked away. SMH. We’re not sure who is worse — the racist nebby neighbor or the overly aggressive racist cops. We hope that Wells gets some kind of justice — an investigation by the SMPD internal affairs, an apology, something. She’s suffered some pretty severe anxiety and trauma as a result of this incident so we hope she is able to get some relief from that very soon. Still, this is pretty scary because it really could be any of us, and it really could have gone terribly wrong. Shutterstock

What It’s Like To Be A Different Race Than Your Parents

Kylie Jenner: Is She Bullying Bella Thorne?!

For the latest couple years, Kylie Jenner has been the reigning queen of social media, with 40 million Instagram followers and several million more on Facebook and Twitter. Bella Thorne is still a far way from  those impressive numbers, but she’s been called the next Kylie, and if you’ve ever seen Bella’s racy selfies , it’s not hard to see why. The ladies have a lot in common ( Bella’s even dating a much older dude !), and that’s part of the reason that many think Ms. Thorne is throwing serious shade at Kylizzle in her latest interview with Seventeen. “I have a mean girl,” Bella revealed. “She’s in the business, and she’s very, very mean. I stay away from her at all costs. I never say hello to her. Her siblings are not mean like she is. It’s just her.  “One of the reasons I don’t like her is because she’s been a billionaire since she was very little, and she’s never had to work for anything in her life.” Okay, Kylie’s not literally a billionaire, but she didn’t grow up flying coach, if ya know what we mean.  We’re not saying Bella is definitely talking about Kylie, but we’re having a tough time thinking of another born-rich teen celeb with famous siblings and a reputation for hazing her peers. ( Kylie was recently accused of harassing a young woman who showed allegedly too much romantic interest in Jaden Smith.) View Slideshow: 18 Hottest Bella Thorne Photos! It seems the class struggle is real for Hollywood’s hottest teens, as Bella is casting herself as a Bernie Sanders-esque woman of the people, and her “mean girl” (who, again is not necessarily Kylie, but c’mon…) as a Trump-like bullying snob. Elsewhere in the interview Bella even talks about using food stamps as a kid and taking acting jobs in order to help feed her family. “I’ve never really talked about it. I wasn’t hiding it, and it wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I’m embarrassed because we don’t have money.’ It was, ‘Oh, we don’t have money, so we’re going to work that much harder.’ “It was scary, though, because you really want those jobs. It’s a different hunger when you want your family to eat.” Well, that’s it. We’ve chosen our side in this epic conflict. Not only is this a clear case of a wealthy Regina George picking on a plucky Cady Heron, but Bella’s bikini photos are currently our favorite thing on the Internet. Your move, Kylie. Sophie Simmons Instagram Modeling of the Day

Sophie Simmons is really milking this instagram model concept hard…even though she looks more like what needs milking….#boobs I don’t know anything about her, other than that she’s got a huge trust fund, she will inherit more money than god when her control freak father dies, and as a hobby, instead of taking up crotchet, or maybe a team sport, or helping the homeless, because they homeless smell bad….she’s decided to set up photoshoots of herself, for herself, and I guess her fans…because she saw a window of opportunity as all the other fat models started getting work…where she could do a whole “own my body, own my life” bullshit angle, that involves her spending days at the gym and bikini because she doesn’t actually love her body, or own her body, she is just open to showing it to you as she tries to get to a place where she too is a skinny girl…because the skinny girls are the ones the guys like best…and sure it may not be for guys, but what is she doing this for, if she’s got all the money in the world…seems like “Likes” is the currency she’s addicted to… The whole thing is weird, I don’t mind girls in panties at all, obviously, but the idea of every girl posting her panties…just doesn’t make sense to me.Sure I’m glad it happens…But when did underwear become something people feel compelled to share… I liked it better when you had to manipulate girls into that…when it just gets put out there…boring. Kim Kardashian: Why North’s Birth Was "The Most Painful Experience"

Kim Kardashian has every right to be terrified of labor. When she was pregnant with North West in 2013, Kardashian suffered from preeclampsia.  During her June delivery, things got worse for the new mom.   Normally the placenta comes out right after the baby is born, but with Kardashian, her doctor had to go into her womb and scrape it out by hand. In a post on her site today, Kardashian called the procedure the “most painful experience of my life.” With baby number two, a boy, due in December, Kardashian is frightened about labor because her previous condition could have negative effects.  “With the issues I had last time, my risk of having preclampsia and placenta acreeta are increased and there’s not a whole lot I can do to prevent it, so my anxiety is a little high leading up to my delivery. “In a very rare case, I might need a hysterectomy after delivery if my condition is severe enough, but luckily my doctor doesn’t think this will happen.” The 35-year-old, who has been honest about not loving pregnancy, wanted to share her story with other expectant moms. “My advice to anyone going through this or anything difficult during pregnancy is that all you can do is be hopeful, get the best information out there and just be prepared,” Kardashian wrote. “The more information you have, the better you know how to handle it!” View Slideshow: Kim Kardashian Pregnant Pics: Big Bump!
