The Academy Award winner has been tapped to headline Extant , a CBS drama produced by Steven Spielberg that skipped the pilot process and was ordered straight to series by the network in August. It will focus on Berry as an astronaut who returns from a year-long solo mission in space and learns that her experiences there will play a key role in the future of mankind. Hmmm… sounds interesting. And very attractive. “I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium,” said Berry. “For five months a year I’ll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I’ll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one.” It makes sense that Berry would select a television role at the moment: filming a television series does not require the sort of travel and crazy shooting schedule of a movie. According to law enforcement sources … NYPD pulled JJ over around 2 AM for speeding on a highway … and when officers approached his Chevy Impala (baller) — they say he had bloodshot eyes and he looked out of it. We’re told they put Jones through some field sobriety tests … which he did NOT pass with flying colors. Sources tell us JJ refused a breathalyzer test back at the police station, and was booked for driving under the influence of drugs. We’re told the drug is believed to be sticky icky. The picture shows the little one, not even 48 hours old, sleeping peacefully on his bed. “The newest Mr. Hubbell #sayuncle,” the proud uncle wrote. Taylor Hubbell moved in with Heather Morris, his high school sweetheart from Arizona, in L.A. right after he graduated from the University of Louisiana in 2012. “He just finished school. He’s moving in with me,” the former Beyonce Knowles backup dancer said during a Late Show appearance a year ago. Soon after, he got Heather Morris nude and, well, the rest is history. An elephant has once again broken the heart of the Internet. A few weeks after cameras caught a baby elephant crying because his mother tried to stomp on him, a photo has surfaced of one of these animals in Africa standing over her deceased friend. According to photographer John Chaney – who snapped the image as part of the 2012 National Geographic Traveler photo contest – the female stood guard over the corpse of her fellow creature for hours, chasing off birds and predators and eventually wrapping her trunk around her pal’s tusk. The photo was taken in 2007, but only recently went viral. As memorable and as depressing as this picture is, we can at least take solace in knowing that elephants can also know unbridled joy. Take this one playing soccer , or this elephant playing in the pool . Still, too many elephants in are being killed for their ivory (35,000 in 2012 alone, according to wildlife conversation groups), an issue Hillary Clinton hopes to do something about. The Secretary of State has announced an $80 million effort to stop this senseless slaughtering. “Unless the killing stops, African forest elephants are expected to be extinct within 10 years. I can’t even grasp what a great disaster this is ecologically, but also for everyone who shares this planet,” she said.

Mary Jane Jarman, a mom jogging with her eight-month-old son in a stroller in New York City, fought off a would-be attacker with a bike pump last Friday. Mom Fights Off Attacker With Bike Pump The 33-year-old was jogging on the Hudson River Greenway near Manhattan’s Henry Hudson Parkway and 190th Street when she was accosted. A strange man jumped out from a behind a wall holding a broken glass bottle, she recalled, and menacingly telling her to “Come here, come here.” Jarman began to run for her life, making it about 100 yards down the path before he grabbed her in a bear hug and took her down to the ground. Her baby stroller was knocked over in the process, but Jarman fought back. After hitting him over the head with the tire pump, she sent him packing. “I started screaming, trying to attract attention. He came at me,” said Jarman, after speaking to police detectives at the 34th Precinct station house. Jarman said she managed to struggle free and reached for a hand-held bike pump she had in the stroller, bashing the attacker over the head 2-3 times. Hard, it sounds like. “I kept hitting him,” she said, showing the shattered pieces of what remained of the black and silver metal bike pump, which she brings “to defend myself.” The mother of two said her first thought was to protect her 8-month old son, Thane, who lay silent in the stroller beside her during the terrifying attack. “I was protecting him with my life,” she said. Jarman said the man “didn’t try to get my phone” or anything else. “His sole intent was to hurt me.” Jarman said after she beat the man repeatedly, he released her and retreated, telling her in broken English, “I’m really sorry, I’m sick,” she said. The man fled, leaving her shaken and alone. She said she called 911 repeatedly, but the calls kept dropping in the thickly wooded area. She finally flagged down a biker on the path, who helped her. Police said they are searching for the attacker, while the jogging enthisiast and mom says the incident left her afraid to use the path home again. “I’m going to take a different route,” Jarman said . Some pepper spray might be a good idea too.
