A photo of a woman lovingly carrying her double-amputee Marine husband has gone viral, and for good reason, but their story is even more touching. The moving image of Kelly Forrester Cottle and Jesse Cottle spread quickly online after it was posted on photographer Sarah Leford’s Facebook page . How they got there is an amazing series of events, both tragic and inspirational. Jesse, 28, lost both of his legs in Afghanistan in 2009 after stepping on an IED, which was caught on video by a fellow marine wearing a helmet camera. The footage was used in a documentary about Jesse called Coming Home . After spending months in the hospital, Jesse met his future wife Kelly, 24, in San Diego on one of his first outings with his new prosthetic legs. “His personality and who he is just outweighs his injuries by so much that you forget about it after a while,” Kelly explained. The professional photo seen above was taken while the couple was visiting family in Idaho, however she says the specific pose was not staged. “Someone had suggested taking photos in the water,” Kelly said. “I was carrying Jesse back to his legs, and the photographer was like, ‘Oh we’ll get a couple of shots of you together.’ It wasn’t planned or anything.” Jesse told ABC News, “The photo really says it all. She’s physically carrying me, but there’s times where she’s carrying me emotionally.” “I actually look at it as a symbol for our whole relationship in general.” Ledford, who took the photo, added, “It’s an amazingly inspiring story that has touched the lives of many Americans. Jesse is not a hero for stepping on an IED.” “He’s a hero because of the way he has handled what was handed to him and how he chooses to continue to conduct his life with his positive attitude.” The couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary on August 18. “If I hadn’t stepped on that IED I wouldn’t have met her,” he said. “I wouldn’t take it back ever.”
While the world is still reeling from Miley Cyrus’ gyrations at the VMAs, the dramatic conclusion to The Real Housewives of Orange County season 8 will hopefully take our minds off Hannah Montana’s Humpty Dancing. Did anyone else ever imagine Miley Cyrus and the OC housewives being mentioned in the same sentence? Yeah, me neither. Anyway. Let’s get to it with our THG +/- recap! Andy’s first question for Heather is about her house and the offer they couldn’t refuse. The model of their new house is built and they hope to break ground by December. Plus 8? Next he brings up Heather’s return to acting and Terry’s many attempts at joking his way through the stress of flying solo. Heather defends their on-camera fighting as part of real life after being together for 16 years. Plus 15 . A viewer makes the comment that Heather should’ve just given Terry his onion rings because he gives her so much. Heather scores points with stay at home moms everywhere when she says she’s actually providing him with a pretty fabulous life, too. Plus 25. Alexis blames the editing of the past four years for the reason Jim has looked like such a gross douche. Not the fact that he might actually be a gross douche. Tamra gets to show off her bling now that she’s a married woman. And their sex life is just great. Plus 17. Shamless plug for Tamra’s O.C. wedding, coming in October. Briana joins the ladies and Vicki says the greatest part of being a grandma is waking up the baby at 1:00 in the morning when she gets home from work. Never wake a sleeping baby, Vicki. Never ever. Minus 4. Ryan is currently in Afghanistan and everyone is counting down the days until he returns. When he retires from the Marines, Vicki says he’s going to sell insurance because he won’t have anything else to do. Then Vicki throws a blow at Lauri saying that she “earns her pay on her back” and “doesn’t work.” Ouch. Minus 2. Briana wasn’t happy with the way Ryan treated Lydia’s mother but defended him because he was apparently taking Vicki’s lead. She won’t talk about her husband who is overseas, but she’ll say she cleaned red wine and mud off the couch at the end of the night. Minus 6 Lydia calls her on that insinuation, rightfully so. Plus 8 . Now that Briana and Troy have moved out, Brooks still isn’t coming over to Vicki’s. They’re together but not together. Briana and Vicki say that the Brooks-can’t-be-here story was misconstrued. He was never not allowed at the house. He just wasn’t allowed at the house when Briana, Troy, or Ryan were there. And they lived there? Briana says that Brooks has proven himself to be a man she cannot trust around her family and believes he’s disrespected her and her mother. Vicki admits that they see each other occasionally but that Brooks has been disrespectful to her but won’t give specifics. Minus 14. The ladies give her grief for making excuses for him. When Briana continues discussing Brooks and says that Brooks discussed the size of Little Brooks, Vicki gets up and walks away. After a commercial break, Brooks joins the ladies. He tells Briana he’s sorry and she asks for specifics. He goes back to 2007 and says he’s sorry she saw an email between himself and Vicki while Vicki was still married to Donn. Wait a minute. Vicki’s still married to Donn. Eh. Technicalities, right? Briana has a bullet list of things she wants Brooks to apologize for, chief among them is a recording of him telling Ryan that Ryan should start hitting her to get her to fall in line. Minus Infinity. He blames it on drunken ramblings and Briana brings up the fact that she was abused as a child while the rest of the ladies attempt to skewer Brooks. Except for Lydia who turns into a crying mess and has to excuse herself. Brooks says the comment to start hitting Briana was taken out of context. Vicki says she’s done with the show and Andy has to call her back to the couch. She insists that Brooks has never hit her and that’s supposed to make everything better. They start to roll the montage of Vicki’s relationship dilemmas and Briana and Brooks are too busy going at one another for us to miss that entertainment. Minus 38. Alexis says that Vicki needs to listen to the tape so she can hear it for herself. Heather asks if Vicki’s reluctant to listen to the tape because then she’ll have to make a choice. Vicki doesn’t answer. Minus 12. Tamra has lots of thoughts on Brooks and Vicki and Briana. She’s threatened bodily harm to Brooks if he hurts Vicki. She feels like Vicki is making excuses for Brooks. This is Weak Vicki. Heather says that maybe this is the time for Vicki to move on from Brooks because she might love him but he might not be the right one for her. Vicki starts to cry as Briana talks about how this is the only source of “ick” in her life. Gretchen says she hates to see Vicki crying because she doesn’t want Vicki not to be with the person that she loves. Awww, Gretch. Tamra says that Briana has seen text messages from Brooks to Vicki calling Vicki fat and ugly and disgusting. Brooks and Vicki don’t believe that those messages exist. Minus 8. Briana tells Andy that all of this is coming from a place of loving her mother. Brooks says he loves her enough to let her go and tells her she should listen to those who’ve known her longer. Gretchen asks her if that’s what she wants and Vicki compares Slade and Brooks and everyone starts to feel grossed out by that comparison. Vicki says the world hated Slade and Gretchen says “well, okay, not the whole world…” Brooks says that the thing he has to do is exit Stage Right because of the turmoil his presence causes in Vicki’s family and friendships. He leaves and Vicki breaks down sobbing. Heather, Alexis, Tamra, and Lydia console her. Briana does not. Minus 40. As the reunion comes to a close, Andy asks for their final thoughts. Lydia says she feels like she’s been punched in the head. Alexis feels bad for a lot of people. Heather had a difficult, yet fun and exciting year and calls that the balance of life. Tamra had her best year yet. Gretchen was hurt by some of the friendships and says she’ll always defend her own honor but she’s happy to be engaged to Slade. Vicki is emotionally drained but remains a hopeless romantic. And that’s a wrap! Bravo, Andy Cohen. Bravo. EPISODE TOTAL: -51 SEASON TOTAL: -298

As of yesterday, Alec Baldwin is a new father … which means Ireland Baldwin is a new sister. Which has led the 17-year old to write a long, heartfelt, humorous letter of advice to little Carmen Gabriela. Begins the missive, which Ireland wrote on Twitter: “You will eventually make your own decisions, but hopefully you will listen to and use the knowledge I have gained from my past experiences and from the results of my many mistakes.” Never one to be shy with her feelings (she thinks the paparazzi are doo doo head dummies ), Ireland included a mature message about kids and their parents at the outset of the message. “Remember that your parents will always love you,” she wrote. “As a kid, you forget that sometimes. When they are screaming about this and bickering about that. It hurts. Grown ups yell. I don’t know why, but they do. No matter what your mom or Dad says or does, simply remember that they love the s–t out of you. NEVER forget it.” When she was 11, of course, Ireland was in the news because her famous father left a voicemail in which he referred to her as a “rude, thoughtless little pig.” By the time Carmen reads this, Ireland added,” she hopes the siblings will “be best friends, sitting in some rad coffee shop in Brooklyn, talking about bands and how… Channing Tatum used to be hot. Maybe cars will be hovering and s–t.” A very sweet idea and letter all around, which included the following advice about fighting: “WALK AWAY.” Let’s hope Ireland and Carmen’s dad takes heed of it.
A beaming Simon Cowell, proud to be a dad indeed, held hands with Lauren Silverman, who is carrying his child, while walking along a French beach. He and Cowell were once close friends. The estranged pair settled their split, including custody of their son, 7, two weeks after the pregnancy bombshell. “I’m proud to be a dad … It’s something I hadn’t thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it,” Cowell said in a recent interview with the BBC. “Things in my life are changing for the better.” Whether or not Simon and Lauren will ever tie the knot, a source says that the duo, who are vacationing in the South of France, are totally still together . “They are making plans together,” says the source. “For the future for themselves and the baby.”
Ryan Anderson misses his late girlfriend Gia Allemand. Every minute of every day. He made this clearer than ever in a Twitter tribute he posted. The NBA player posted a photo of himself and The Bachelor star, writing: “Every second of everyday, I miss you Petrie. I feel lost without you but find strength knowing that you are in Heaven. Rest in peace my love.” The tweet came a day after Anderson joined Gia Allemand ‘s family and friends at her funeral in New York. Gia took her own life earlier this month. Anderson had found Allemand unconscious in mid-August in her New Orleans home after she apparently hanged herself with a vacuum cord . She was taken to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead. Ryan Anderson told investigators that he and Allemand had argued through lunch on August 12 “over her suspicions that he had been unfaithful to her.” This resulted in the New Orleans Pelicans player, who had already been fighting a lot with Allemand, telling Gia, “I don’t love you anymore.” The athlete told police that he arrived at Allemand’s house 20 minutes after receiving a worried message from her mother and found her unconscious. A vacuum cleaner cord was “wrapped around her neck many times.” After Allemand’s passing, Anderson said in a statement that Gia “was the most beautiful person” he knew and had “an amazing impact on my life.” “Anyone who knew her was blessed. All I have left is to cherish the memories we made and help perpetuate the values, faith and love that we shared.”

This is sad. Transgender Woman Killed In Hate Crime According to Mail Online A transgender woman in New York has died after being beaten by a group of men who attacked her and yelled gay slurs. The victim, 21-year-old Islan Nettles, died Thursday in a Harlem hospital when she was taken off life support five days following the attack. The attacker, a 20-year-old man named Paris Wilson, was arrested for assault but now that the victim has died he may face murder charges. The attack on Nettles was the latest in a spate of bias incidents this year in New York and a total of 68 have been reported so far this year, showing a significant increase from the 54 that were reported in all of last year. Nettles and a friend, another transgender woman, were out Saturday evening in Harlem when they ran into a group of men and one pounced, punching Nettles in the face, police said. The New York Post reports that the attack took place after Wilson began flirting with Nettles, before he realized she was transgendered. Once that became clear, his friends started teasing him and he proceeded to attack her. After the attack, Nettles was hospitalized, slipped into a coma and later died. The witness eventually told detectives about the anti-gay remarks- after initially leaving them out of the criminal report- and the hate crimes task force took over the investigation. Detectives are looking whether the suspect had propositioned Nettles. Upgraded charges are possible following the medical examiner’s ruling, police said. Nettle’s sister, Elana, said in an interview Friday that she and her mother were coping well so far but did not comment further. The bias attacks this year range from yelled slurs to the May killing of a 32-year-old gay man in Greenwich Village. Police stepped up patrols this summer in response. In May, police said Mark Carson, 32, was first taunted with homophobic slurs, then shot in the head in Greenwich Village, not far from the site of 1969 riots that helped give rise to the gay rights movement. A suspect was arrested on a charge of murder as a hate crime. The killing, and other bias attacks, sparked a summer protest attended by thousands. Some of the other bias incidents this summer included an assault last week where two men were attacked in Chelsea. Christine Quinn, the city’s first openly gay City Council speaker and a mayoral candidate, denounced the most recent attack. ‘An attack against one person, or one community, is an assault against all New Yorkers,’ she said in a joint statement with other council members. ‘We ask all New Yorkers to come together, to embrace our differences and to denounce hate violence.’ So he attacked her because he was embarrassed? She didn’t have to lose her life. Prayers go out to her family. LinkedIn
