MTV Unleashing Jersey Shore Upon Poor World

MTV is taking Jersey Shore abroad, hoping that international viewers will tune in to see The Situation chase broads and be as captivated as we are. The network is promoting the shore lifestyle – at least the lifestyle on the show, which stoked local anger – in a new ads called “Get Jersey Shored.” MTV executives say they believe that despite Jersey Shore quotes not making sense elsewhere, the “Jersey Shore narrative” is universally appealing. One of the overseas print ads for the show sums it up: “Muscles + gel + tanning bed = sex.” They left out laundry, right Pauly D? Still, point taken. Is the rest of the planet ready for Jersey Shore? With the campaign, MTV is testing whether Jersey Shore truly has global appeal. If it does, there’s obviously a tremendous amount of money to be made there. Jersey Shore premiered in the U.S. last December, and “seems likely to be a consensus choice for most appalling show of 2009,” The New York Times wrote . Now the show will make its debut on MTV’s international channels. The network will also sell the show to third-party syndicators beginning next month. Season Two is coming to an unnamed city that’s likely Miami soon.

Exes of Michelle McGee, Jesse James Seek Custody

The former spouses of Michelle McGee and Jesse James are seeking custody of their kids following McGee’s divulging of her affair with Sandra Bullock’s husband. Michelle “Bombshell” McGee, the alleged Jesse James mistress, is now locked in a custody battle with ex-husband Ronald Shane Modica. It’s getting nastier now. Modica is seeksing temporary and legal custody of Avery, their five-year-old son, filing a motion as a direct result of the sex scandal involving his ex and James. Court documents shed alarming new light on Michelle “Bombshell” McGee . Modica states that “I need protection” amid the swarm of celebrity gossip attention. “If [Michelle McGee] sees Avery, she will bring these curosity seekers and glory hounds down on herself and Avery, totally confusing and frankly scaring him.” Jesse James’ alleged mistress, Michelle McGee, is a real piece of work. He also adds that Avery gets upset when it’s time to go to his mother’s house, declaring “He fights me violently, and screams, yells, cries and begs not to go.” We can see why, given all the Nazi paraphernalia . Modica fears McGee may flee to Australia (where she reportedly has a boyfriend) and take Avery with her, and calls out her lifestyle of “stripping, pills, alcohol.” He says she has brought her X-rated “performances” into the home she shares with Avery, such as “pornographic shoots there and live WEB cam broadcasts.” Gross. But not as upsetting as accusations that Michelle dated gang members , and is mentally ill yet refuses to take prescribed medication for bipolar disorder. In light of McGee’s now-infamous Nazi photo shoot , Modica alleges that her home features “child block magnets on the refrigerator that spell out ‘White Power.'” James is currently undergoing a similar situation . Maybe Michelle and Jesse James can commiserate, because his ex-wife, Janine Lindemulder, is going to court to wrestle custody from Jesse at the same time. The trigger was the Michelle McGee/Sandra Bullock meltdown. Janine Lindemulder, who has clashed with James and Bullock in the past, has filed legal papers in their custody case involving six-year-old daughter, Sunny. Currently, Jesse has full custody of Sunny. Why? Because Janine lives in a halfway house after being locked up for tax evasion, natch. Real normal situation. Until this week he didn’t stand a chance of gaining even partial custody, since Bullock was such a stabilizing family influence, any judge would shut her down. Now, however, it’s game on! According to sources, Janine now believes Sandra will divorce Jesse and she feels she has a shot at getting some custodial rights. She did already move out, supposedly, though the paid has not officially split or acknowledged the affair aside from James’ vague apology statement Thursday.

Kelly Osbourne Fronts New Self-Esteem Campaign

Kelly Osbourne is fronting a new campaign to tackle self-esteem problems in young people. Osbourne, 25, has become an ambassador for tanning brand St Tropez, after their research found that almost 75 per cent of people aged between 16 to 30 are not confident about their body. “It really saddens me that so many young people suffer from low self-esteem and feel unhappy with their appearance.”I think that at times we can be very hard on ourselves, which is certainly something I have experienced in my own life. I managed to overcome those negative thoughts by being healthy, thinking positively and making small changes to my lifestyle that make me feel good about myself, such as taking more exercise and being true to yourself.” Hooray for Kelly! We wish more celebrities would speak up for us s-called normal people and especially help younger woman deal with the unattainable image Hollywood pushes.

Liz Lee Says Justin Bieber Has ‘Definitely Influenced’ ‘My Life As Liz’ Co-Star Bryson

‘The swoop! They have the Bieber swoop!’ she jokes about similarities in their hairstyles. By Jocelyn Vena Liz Lee Photo: MTV News While Liz Lee claims she will never wear a Snooki-style poof , she does see a hairstyle resemblance between her “My Life as Liz” crush Bryson’s hair and that of teen pop star Justin Bieber . With their sideswept bangs and dirty blond locks, they do have twinsie hairstyles. Lee laughs off the similarities. “The swoop! They have the Bieber swoop!” she joked to MTV News when she stopped by to talk about the “My Life as Liz” season finale . “I feel like Justin Bieber has definitely influenced Bryson as a whole: his lifestyle, his music.” She went on to say that while shooting the show, Bryson would often serenade her with Bieber’s tunes. “Bryson often would do a nice little Justin Bieber dance number,” she said. “I can’t tell you how many times I had to hear ‘One Less Lonely Girl’ from Bryson.” Her romantic relationship with Bryson is still up in the air, but it seems that the two are already taking cues from Bieber on how to win each other back, if that should be in the cards. “We had a dance-off at a bowling alley one time. Drake was there, and Ludacris,” she joked, adding that the MCs seem like the perfect guys to hang out with the teenaged Bieber. “Especially with little kids. I feel like when I was a child that was really what I needed to hear.” As season one wrapped, Bryson finally admitted that he had feelings for Lee. But it was almost too late — she still decided to move to New York to pursue her dreams. “There was that hesitation [when he told me how he felt], but I felt like, if he really cared about me, that he just wanted me to be happy,” she said. “And I feel like that was another thing that pushed me to New York, [because] all of my friends cared so much.” Related Photos My Life As Liz | Ep. 9 | The End Of The Beginning My Life As Liz | Cast

University of Alabama-Huntsville Shooting Suspect Dr. Amy Bishop: A Politicized Composite Emerges

Yesterday afternoon at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, a suspect was detained on a capital murder charge after a shooting that left three dead and three injured: Dr. Amy Bishop . The emerging portrait of her is typically sad and average. Our J-School Embed, Gawker contributor Hunter Walker, did some digging around, and found the following on Dr. Amy Bishop : Bishop’s a Harvard-educated biologist who’s an assistant professor at UAH. The three dead victims were all working in the Biology department, including the department’s chairman. Via the New York Times , Bishop’s denial of tenure is what supposedly triggered her violent rampage : “She began to talk about her problems getting tenure in a very forceful and animated way, saying it was unfair,” the associate said, referring to a conversation in which she blamed specific colleagues for her problems. “She seemed to be one of these persons who was just very open with her feelings,” he said. “A very smart, intense person who had a variety of opinions on issues.” Her profile on the university’s site shows that she specialized in “Molecular Biology of Oxidative Stress, Neurobiology, Neuroengineering, and Induced Adaptive Resistance.” Her most notable achievement in her field was the invention of InQ, a “cell growth incubator,” which was assisted by her husband, Jim Anderson. She was profiled by the Huntsville Times in 2006, to whom she boasted that her colleagues think the InQ will “change the face of tissue culture.” Whether or not it did is far less notable than the fact, that, as the teacher of “Anatomy and Physiology,” she wasn’t necessarily notable. Walker checked out her Rate My Professors profile, and found the following: RateMyProfessors.com has 34 reviews of Bishop’s class dating back to April, 2004. On a scale of one to five, Bishop received ratings of 2.3 for “average easiness,” 3.7 for “average helpfulness,” 3.4 for “average clarity,” and a “hotness total” of 0. Her “overall quality” was a 3.6. None of the postings describe Bishop as the kind of angry or mean person from whom we might have expected some sort of violent outburst. Several of the online reviews of her class say Bishop was “fair,” however not all of her students seem to have enjoyed her class. Multiple reviewers described Bishop as “brilliant” a smart teacher, who was eager to help out with extra study sessions, and taught an excellent class. There are also several reviews indicating that she is a “boring” teacher who “reads straight from the book” and “highlight[s] the book word for word.” Even more, Walker notes that she might have been a “fish out of water” on the UAH campus given her Ivy-League roots and her fairly liberal ideologies. More from her students: After classes ended last spring, a RateMyProfessors.com user said Bishop “is hot but she tries to hide it.And she is a socalist but she only talks about it after class.” In 2008, someone described her on the site by saying: “she’s a liberal from ‘Hahvahd’ and let’s you know exactly how she feels about particular subjects.” Finally, Walker found that she was a member of the “Clergy Letter Project,” which is devoted to connecting scientists with clergy members who “have questions about the science associated with all aspects of evolution.” For what it’s worth, Walker also recorded her outgoing voicemail message . Meanwhile, over at Media Elites, Steve Huff found that right-wing groups have already jumped on Bishop and her husband—who has also been detained, but not charged—and are using political views as put on display by Rate My Professors to fuel their rhetoric. Huff notes: Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, pointed this RateMyProfessors comment out and it was immediately picked up by other historically conservative bloggers. Because you know all the comments on “Rate My Professor” are true and valid reflections of a teacher’s personality, style and ability to do their job and not student perceptions and biases, right? Huff also dug up a complaint to the FTC by Bishop’s husband, which ends: “By the people … for the people …” not “Buy the people … for the Corporations …” Does a liberal ideology, an Ivy League education, and a husband who writes letters to the FTC make a rage-prone shooter? Not necessarily, but as we’ve learned, ideological extremities almost always definitely do. The extent of Bishop’s politics, ideas behind them, and the lifestyle to which Bishop and her husband inhibited them have yet to be fully fleshed out, but one thing—as each instance of breaking violence of this stripe happens proves without fail—is for sure: the pictures that can come together from aggregated information is hitting people faster and is colored deeper than each time before it, every time, as are the assumptions and projections they yield.
