Levon Helm, the legendary drummer for The Band, died today. He was 71. “Levon Helm passed peacefully this afternoon,” his rep confirmed. “He was surrounded by family, friends and fellow band members and will be remembered by all he touched as a brilliant musician and a beautiful soul.” Earlier this week, Levon’s wife Sandy and their daughter announced on his official website that he was “in the final stages of his battle with cancer .” The Arkansas-born Helm played in a rockabilly band in the late 1950s before moving up to Canada and joining guitarist Robbie Robertson and three other musicians to form what would become Bob Dylan’s back-up band in the mid-1960s. Later called simply The Band, the group featured Helm’s drums and vocals on songs like “The Weight,” “Up on Cripple Creek” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” Their final concert, filmed by Martin Scorsese, was The Last Waltz in 1976. In their message to his fans, Levon Helm’s wife and daughter said: “Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life filled with joy and celebration … he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage.” “We appreciate all the love and support and concern.”
Demi Lovato showed fans in Peru a very different side of herself last night. No, not the side without makeup . All Twitter followers were treated to that glimpse a few days ago. Instead, went all hip hop on these South American attendees, briefly covering the Kanye West/Jay-Z track “Niggas in Paris” off their collaborative album, “Watch the Throne.” Even Demi couldn’t take herself totally seriously while spewing out the rhymes, but she performed the track better than we could have! The life of Lindsay Lohan is almost too ludicrous to believe sometimes. Last night, the alleged actress returned to the scene of the alleged crime from two weeks ago, when she allegedly got into a fight with some woman. This time, LiLo rolled to The Standard Hotel in Hollywood and went to Smoke and Mirrors, the same nightclub … and got into it with another woman. Lindsay’s friend drove her car to the hotel, with the star in the passenger seat. The driver pulled into the parking garage and promptly hit another car. Witnesses say Lindsay called her sometimes-estranged, oft-jailed father, Michael Lohan, for help, and he dutifully showed up … and then hung out! MiLo took his little girl inside the club and the two chilled for hours, without any alcohol. Cute! It was all fun until some moron had to go mouth off. Around closing time, a woman in the booth next to theirs made a snide comment about Lindsay showing up with her dad. LiLo was far from happy. Kendall Jenner is rocking a bikini yet again. The 16-year old half-sister of Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian came under a bit of fire for going too risque in one of these bathing suits back in 2010. But it’s two years later and Kendall is proud of the photos displayed in the latest issue of Flavor , which is apparently a fashion magazine. “It is such an amazing honor to be featured,” Jenner wrote of the spread in her official blog, adding that Sinisha Nisevic snapped the pics and they were taken on James Goldstein’s property. Surprisingly, Kim had something positive to say about the images, too. She blogged on Friday: “They are soooo beautiful. I love the whole look with the slicked back hair, the gorgeous swimwear and the incredible views from the Goldstein House. So proud of you, Kendall!”
