Jerry Sandusky – the disgraced former Penn State assistant whose alleged, despicable actions led to a cover-up that will forever tarnish Joe Paterno’s legacy – has issued a statement on the passing of the iconic football coach. “This is a sad day!” Sandusky said, exclamation mark included. “Our family, Dottie [Sandusky’s wife] and I would like to convey our deepest sympathy to Sue [Paterno] and her family. Most importantly, he had the courage to practice what he preached.” Sandusky, of course, faces over 40 counts of child sex charges ; while the inability of Paterno and other Penn State officials to report their knowledge of Sandusky’s actions to the police has led to the biggest scandal in the history of college athletics.
