‘The Buried Life’ Guys Say They’re Down For A Third Season

‘We always have things on the list that we want to cross off,’ castmember Ben Nemtin explains. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Rya Backer The cast of “The Buried Life” Photo: Angela Weiss/ Getty Images The gang behind MTV’s “The Buried Life” isn’t likely to leave behind a lengthy list of regrets when they kick the bucket, and for the season-two finale, the boys kicked off one of their biggest episodes ever: an hour-long opus packed with gutsy attempts at making a million bucks. Ben Nemtin, Dave Lingwood and Duncan Penn recently kicked back on the MTV Newsroom couch to chat about the finale and said the inspiration for the episode came from one of the most popular wishes that people across the board want to fulfill: becoming a multimillionaire. “Everywhere we go, we ask the question: ‘What do you want to do before you die?’ And it’s amazing how often we get an answer that has something to do with money and specifically like, ‘I wanna make millions of dollars,’ ” Duncan explained. “We really wanted to see how far we could get at making a million dollars. We tried everything [and] pulled off some amazing, amazing things. We’re really excited about this episode; that’s why we made it an hour long. We also get to help someone in a way that we’ve never been able to help someone. It’s a good one. It’s probably one of our best.” For Ben, his jumbo-size Las Vegas gamble tops his list of season two’s best moments. “My personal highlight is a moment that happens in the finale. The [episode goal] is to make a million dollars, and we do the biggest roulette spin in Vegas’ history. It’s probably one of the most nerve-racking … I don’t even know how to explain it, but it was a feeling that I don’t think I’ve never felt before, right before that spin,” he recalled. As viewers saw Monday night (November 29), the guys each chose a different path toward pumping up their bank accounts, armed with $25,000 of seed money each. Ben hit Vegas, Duncan ventured to Wall Street to team up with investment expert Jim Cramer, and Dave went into the apparel game, cranking out zippered onesies for adults. Duncan explained that his personal interest in business drew him to the moneymaking address. “I studied business in school, and so I decided what I wanted to do was go to Wall Street and team up with somebody, kind of a guru in the game and see how far I could get, how much money I could make in sort of a short period of time doing, like, really, really risky plays,” he said. The boys can now strike a line through “starring in the second season of their hit TV series” on their “Buried Life” list. They’re definitely game for a third go-around, but even if their adventures aren’t broadcast to the world, the fellas say they’ll continue to whittle down their list on their own. “We always have things on the list that we want to cross off. We started this in a garage in Canada four years ago and were doing it three years before MTV,” Ben said. “For us, we want to keep doing this as long as we can, so there’s always gonna be things that we’re trying to cross off. I mean, ‘go to space’ is on the list.” Duncan agreed: “We’re still surviving this season, but I think we’d be up for a third season.” What did you think of the season-two finale of “The Buried Life”? Wyclef Jean Excluded From Haiti Presidential Candidates List

‘He is not on the list,’ an electoral official told Reuters on Thursday. By Kara Warner Wyclef Jean Photo: Michelly Rall/ Getty Images Wyclef Jean’s Haitian Presidential run might be cut short. According to Reuters, Jean is not on the list of approved candidates (released on Thursdaywho were found to have satisfied legal requirements to run in the country’s November 28 presidential election. Since the rapper announced his bid for office on “Larry King Live” earlier this month, his plans have been met largely with enthusiasm from the country’s residents, but he has been challenged on one key presidential requirement: residency. “He is not on the list as I speak,” an electoral official told Reuters, citing legal requirements that Jean does not meet as the reason for his exclusion. However, the official would not reveal which specific requirements the singer has failed to meet. Wyclef, who left Haiti with his family to live in New York at the age of 9, said on CNN that he was running because he felt he was being “drafted by the population,” in the wake of the country’s devastating January earthquake. “After January 12 … being out here with my wife and picking up dead bodies from the ground, I felt that because of the youth of Haiti and the population, that this is not even Wyclef saying that ‘I want to be the president of Haiti.’ I feel like I’m being drafted by the population right now to give them a different face, a different voice,” the singer explained. Wyclef has acknowledged his lack of political experience, but also argued that his position as a political outsider would work to his advantage. “What qualifies me to be president of Haiti, when I look at the past 200 years, with what our people have suffered, Wolf — political instability, coup after coup d’

Erykah Badu Pays Fine For ‘Window Seat’ Video

Singer hit with six months of probation for stripping in Dallas streets. By Gil Kaufman Erykah Badu Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images The global publicity bump Erykah Badu got for stripping down to her essentials and walking the streets of Dallas for her “Window Seat” video shoot was probably well worth the $500 fine she finally paid last week. A Dallas city spokesperson said the singer paid the maximum fine and agreed to serve six months probation for the stunt, in which she was filmed slowly taking off her clothes as she walked through Dealey Plaza, the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The incident took place on March 13, and a defiant Badu entered a not guilty plea in April to a charge of disorderly conduct. “I thought it was a move for women and men and children who feel they weren’t good enough,” Badu told MTV News on April 8 about the controversial clip, in which she is shot down at the end. ” ‘This is just me. I’m good enough.’ I felt it was important enough to do. More pros than cons.” According to a statement from City of Dallas public information officer Jose Torres, Badu’s probation will end around February 11, 2011, and she faces the revocation of her probation if she commits any city, state or federal offenses during her six-month term. The Texas native must also notify the court about any address changes within 10 days of moving. If her probation is violated, Badu will have a criminal conviction on her record. Badu didn’t file for an official permit to shoot the video. The directors of the video, Chike and Coodie, told MTV News that they were well aware of potential attention from law-enforcement officials. They also said Badu was fully prepared for the consequences . “We had bail money and everything,” Coodie said. “I think she really wanted to get arrested and even make a bigger message.” A spokesperson for Badu could not be reached for comment at press time. The Brooklyn lyricist topped the business magazine’s annual ranking of high-rolling hip-hop stars by earning $63 million over the past 12 months, thanks to business ventures like a high-grossing tour, real estate investments and the successful Broadway production “Fela!” Jay-Z’s income more than doubled the total brought home by 2010 runner-up Diddy , who clocked in at #2 on the list with $30 million earned thanks to endorsement deals and roles in films like “Get Him to the Greek.” Akon came in third, earning $21 million from endorsement deals and his signing of Lady Gaga to his Interscope-backed label KonLive. Lil Wayne landed at the #4 spot with $20 million in earnings, most of which came through touring; the rapper’s tours last year, “I Am Music” and “America’s Most Wanted,” were the biggest hip-hop outings of 2009 .
