Actress Felicity Huffman , who was one of the biggest names caught up in the college admissions scandal,   just received her punishment for trying to bribe her kid’s way into college. Her sentence? 14 days in prison. According to NBC News , Huffman was sentenced on Friday. Joined by her actor husband, William H. Macy , Huffman was also sentenced to a fine of $30,000 and 250 hours of community service. “I am deeply sorry to the students, schools, and universities, that are impacted by my actions,” Huffman said, while choking up. “I take full responsibility for my actions and as a first step for making amends for my crime. I will accept whatever punishment you deem appropriate.” U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, who handed down the sentence, said the scandal demonstrated a major imbalance in America in which rich parents are able to give their kids more advantages. She said she didn’t relish sending Huffman to prison, but she believed it was the right decision. “I don’t think anyone wants to be going to prison, I do think this is the right sentence here,” said Talwani. “You move forward and you can rebuild your life after this. You pay your dues.” Yet there are tons of Black people in prison for minor non-violent offenses serving way more time than 14 days. Of course, much of Twitter wasn’t happy with Huffman’s sentencing. Huffman pleaded guilty to mail fraud and honest services fraud for dishing out $15,000 to college fixer Rick Singer to cheat on daughter Sophia Grace Macy’s SAT test back in 2017. Yet, she somehow evaded a prison system in which the less wealthy and less White folks aren’t so lucky. Ironically, probation officials initially said the government was at fault for setting Huffman’s sentencing range at four to nine months because the amount of money she paid should not be a factor in how she’s sentenced. They said Huffman should be subject to the lowest sentencing guidelines of zero prison time to six months. It looks like they got what they wanted. “The mere fact that prosecutors asked for such little prison time showed that Huffman appeared to be in good position to avoid time behind bars,” said NBC legal analyst Danny Cevallos. “Federal courts are under obligation to avoid ‘unwarranted sentencing disparities.’ A sentence of incarceration for Felicity Huffman sure seems like an unwarranted sentencing disparity.” So basically, there are people who think her sentencing is actually too severe. Considering how tattletales are treated in crime circles ( his own family sees the jig ), the Brooklyn rapper is being housed with other snitches for his safety. In fact, Tekashi is probably doing better than most inmates. Reports TMZ : Fact is … the feds believe Tekashi is already safe and secure in the facility he’s called home for nearly a year. The joint houses other snitches, all of whom have the same problem … certain people want to kill many of them and are willing to pay a hefty price to get the job done. The facility has a unit where a bunch of the snitches live. They spend all of their time with each other … no other inmates allowed. They have a common area where tables are set up for meals. It’s strictly a catering-in unit. Food carts come and go all day. They have exercise equipments and a TV in the common area and they sleep in a dormitory setting. Tekashi is facing 47 years in the bing if convicted of his crimes. However, prosecutors recently detailed how he will be basically pointing the finger at everyone in his crew, as well as admitting to his own crimes. The result is he’ll do significantly less time, while his rap career is basically a wrap. He may want to lose the face tattoos sooner than later, too.

Lord Jamar Says He Doesn’t Listen To Women Or White Rappers, “It Doesn’t Resonate.”

Source: TV ONE / TV One Brand Nubian member and Hip-Hop veteran Lord Jamar is no stranger to controversy, so his latest statement regarding women in Hip-Hop doesn’t come as a surprise. During an interview with Bosschick Raine for the online show “Battle Code”, Lord Jamar stated that he doesn’t feel women rappers aren’t appealing as artists because he can’t relate to their subject matter, despite having the first lady of Flipmode, Rah Digga , as his podcast cohost. “I don’t f*ck with female rappers,” he said before elaborating. “The same reason I don’t f*ck with white rappers or wack rappers: I can’t resonate with what a woman is talking about. Now listen, can I appreciate a sista that can rhyme good? Yes. Rah Digga can rhyme. She’s dope. Bahamadia, dope. But do I wanna listen to a female rhyming about female sh*t? It doesn’t resonate with me.” When asked about female rap legends like Lauryn Hill and MC Lyte , Lord Jamar revealed that he holds those two ladies at a different standard than most. “I love Lauryn Hill, but some people will say that’s not Hip Hop,” Lord Jamar continued. “You got some people that’ll say [ The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ] was damn near an R&B album. I loved Lauryn Hill. She was one of the only female albums that I actually really did listen to on some ‘this is the soundtrack for a minute.’” In regards to fellow pioneer, MC Lyte, Jamar stated that her “tomboy” persona allowed him to bypass her gender and listen to her rhyme before stating the obvious that his point of view like his music choice is very misogynistic. “Lyte was different because we were younger. It was a different time and Lyte was almost like a tomboy at that time, so you kinda knew girls like Lyte, but Lyte’s music was more harder too,” Lord Jamar explained. “I like real Hip Hop. Like I said, I’m an alpha male. So, certain themes are not gonna resonate with me. Female themes, themes of sucker sh*t, white people themes. There’s a lot of shit that I wouldn’t resonate with. But I resonate with positive, militant, gangsta, sometimes misogynistic music. I’m just keeping it real. I’m just telling you what I like.” Check out the video below:

There’s a haunting quote from Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing that’s stuck with me since I read the book a couple of years ago. It shared the experience of Esi, a young Ghanaian woman, unknowingly being sold into America’s race-based, life-long, unimaginably cruel system of slavery. “They took them out into the light. The scent of ocean water hit her nose. The taste of salt clung to her throat. The soldiers marched them down to an open door that led to sand and water, and they all began to walk out onto it. Before Esi left, the one called Governor looked at her and smiled. It was a kind smile, pitying, but true. But for the rest of her life Esi would see a smile on a white face and remember the one the soldier gave her before taking her to his quarters, how white men smiling just meant more evil was coming with the next wave.” It speaks to the righteous and rightful distrust we have of White people and White men in particular. Their track record hasn’t been great. And throughout the course of our history on this land and around the world, even well-intentioned actions from White folk have ultimately resulted in unspeakable pain and heartache for Black women. For that reason, the conscious among us approach the actions of White people with some level of caution. I was reminded of this phenomena when my friend sent me a post that’s currently being circulated around social media. Here we are centuries after slavery and White men are still using the labor of Black women to their benefit. He described Black women as being “less selfish” and “having his best interest” at heart. And then there’s the pain evoked by “y’all raised us even when we refused to let you read.” Damn. This White man didn’t tell any lies. But his truths are still hurtful. Perhaps he perceives Black women as being less selfish because historically we’ve had to take care of White masters, White children, Black men and Black children at the expense of ourselves. Instead of continuing to perpetuate that cycle, as a real ally or advocate for these women he should be looking for ways that these women can invest in themselves. The same can be said for them having his best interest at heart. At the expense of what? To their personal lives have to suffer so his business can grow? Since he understands the role Black women played during slavery, does he also understand that the we were conditioned to put the needs of White men, financial, emotional and sexual, ahead of our own for survival and not through our own free will? For as much as this White man seems to understand the dynamics of slavery, he doesn’t seem to be doing enough to change them. And this is the reason why I told my friend I didn’t have a problem with this idea. While I wouldn’t argue that it’s progressive in any way, I think that this White man is doing what White men in this country and every other capitalist in this country has done for centuries, making money. I say this all the time and I continue to repeat it mostly because so many of life’s occurrences remind us of the fact that while legalized slavery has ended, we’ve taken the model into our businesses. Think about, in most businesses, the CEO or the person at the top does the least work but makes the most money. This person may have very little knowledge or ability to run the day-to-day operations of the business; yet they make decisions that directly impact the lives of their workers. And as the White man suggested employees, while offered very little or nothing at all in terms of equity, are expected to be invested in the business’ success while they are expendable. People have literally died overworking themselves for companies that will replace them within a week of their funeral—if not before. So while the White man’s sentiments aren’t progressive or kind-hearted, his business is no different than the companies many of us work for. And as we fight for representation and employment in various industries, I can’t help but believe that this White man is doing this. In the short term, these Black women are employed and hopefully being appropriately compensated. I pray that the work environment is fair and that they’re able to take the skills they’ve learned and developed there to companies, perhaps in the future, that have work models that are more favorable than what we have today. ‘Basketball Wives’ Recap: They’re Still On Some Colorist Bull With OG

Source: Robin L Marshall / Getty Tonight on another episode of Basketball Wives we got to see another round of these idiot grown women acting a’fool. Shaunie is getting into real estate, as we know. She wants some of her ventures to be overseas so she invited everyone except for Jenn to Costa Rica so there will be more girls trip shenanigans soon. Apparently, Shaunie is mad at Jenn again, and so is Evelyn. I don’t know what happened between the episode that they all made up and Jenn apologized, and tonight’s episode, but I guess Evelyn and Shaunie needed something to beef about because they went back to saying that Jenn wasn’t really genuine and that they were over her. It was like an episode of the Twilight Zone . Jenn has been on some BS at times during this show, but in this case, she really didn’t seem to be on her drama tip. She just left them claiming that she was done with them for real. Okay, girl.   They always claim they’re done but the allure of attention via reality TV gets strong and they come running right back. Remember when Evelyn was “fixing her life” with Iyanla, got her own show and was allegedly on this positive kick? Then her show got canceled and she went running right back to Basketball Wives and it didn’t take her long to revert back to her old evil self. Anyway… The episode ends on another wack note with Evelyn and OG arguing again. OG is a straight shooter, and she’s not scared of these women, nor does she try too hard to be their friend, which they don’t seem like. So, Evelyn’s “Toe-gie” comment came up again and they started going back and forth about that. Basically, OG doesn’t appreciate Evelyn’s ish talking because if it were the other way around Evelyn would be trying to throw drinks, hands and whatever else, and we’ve seen it numerous times. They claim they don’t like OG because she’s aggressive but OG never actually acted on any of her threats. She has kept it quite calm throughout the entire season. There was even a moment where OG invited the group to a party that her family threw because she wanted them to get to know her and see her culture. Only Jackie and Jenn actually showed up (Cece couldn’t make it). OG was disappointed because it was her once again attempting to extend an olive branch only for her to b dismissed. To make things worse, word on these cyber streets is that OG wasn’t even allowed to film the reunion on stage, which was taped last Monday. Girl, they had her in another room communicating via satellite because the other women didn’t feel safe. Mind you, people who were there say there was fighting and object-throwing happening on stage. Obviously, none of that was OG. So, once again, we’re back wondering why they were so afraid of OG. She did make some threats here and there but again never actually acted violently and she only verbally sparred with people who came at her first with whatever shady comment they felt like making that day. It’s no different from when your mom threatened to kill you but never actually did.  So, say it with me, colorism (might even be xenophobia too). OG even seemed to agree but according to MadameNoire, when it was brought up, she was dismissed, which is what people usually like to do when dark skin girls bring up colorism. Such a shame. Sony Accuses Vincent Herbert Of Hiding Assets in $4 Million Battle

And while it’s been years since he’s been in financial trouble, it doesn’t mean that the end is near. In fact, according to The Blast , Sony Music still has their hands out. In court documents obtained by The Blast , Herbert has yet to pay the $4 million he owes Sony Music, even after a judge ruled that he needed to pay the debt. As we reported earlier, the label gave Herbert the $4 million advance in order for him to find new talent. They lent the money with the expectation that it would eventually be recouped. But they claimed he failed to pay back the advance as he promised. Herbert ignored the lawsuit and a default judgement of $3,738,515.93, was set against him. In new documents, Sony claims, “No portion of the Judgment has been satisfied and the judgment continues to accrue interest. Defendant Herbert instead has evaded enforcement through a series of shell transactions using an ever expanding list of closely held corporate entities as a means to fund and thrive upon a lavish lifestyle at the expense of his creditors, including Sony Music.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! They also claim that Herbert went through extraordinary measures to prevent Sony from serving him documents. When Herbert sold his Calabasas home, the $9.8 million profit went to pay his debts but none of the money was applied to his $4 Sony balance. The label alleges that Herbert created a company called GloJoe in order to collect funds. Thus far, he’s collected $472,000. They also believe over 1 million dollars was collected at another point. Perv Ref Strips Teen Swimmer of Medal Due to Improperly-Covered Butt

Schools and school activities are supposed to reward extraordinary achievement and dedication on the parts of their students. But for one 17-year-old swimmer, she found her accomplishments erased when a referee disqualified her after she won. The reason cited? The bottom of her one-piece swimsuit had bunched up during her swim. The national outcry was swift and immediate. Dimond High School in Anchorage, Alaska boasts one of the fastest swimmers in the country's largest state. Unfortunately for that very talented 17-year-old athlete, she is now at the center of a nationwide controversy. On Friday night, she won a 100m freestyle event against the rival team from Chugiak. Sadly, her victory was short-lived. The referee disqualified her after-the-fact, citing — and we wish that we were kidding — that her swimsuit had a wedgie. Most people would not have paid any attention to a slightly bunched up one-piece, because that can happen to any swimsuit. It is also worth noting, of course, that the one-piece was provided by the school — this wasn't the case of a swimmer going rogue with her uniform. But the referee issued a disqualification based upon the girl's “intergluteal cleft.” Notably, the national rulebook does not say anything of the sort. And while coaches in the district were cautioned against swimmers showing “intergluteal cleft,” the one-piece only did so while bunched up. There have been no shortage of deeply sexist dress codes and ensuing scandals over the years as fewer families are willing to stand for them. But this was clearly a step further, and spawned national outrage practically overnight. There was more than misogyny and inherent unfairness at play behind this unbelievable decision by the referee. Millions of Americans reading about the outrageous disqualification took note of the fact that the girl in question is biracial and somewhat curvy. Bias against curvier women and girls is sadly nothing new, and they are often excessively sexualized despite wearing normal clothing. And we hope that we do not have to explain that racism is alive and well in America to a sickening degree. These factors were pointed out by a coach at a neighboring high school — a rival school, and the last person you'd think would root for an opposing athlete. She wrote about how this girl wore the same uniform as her teammates, none of whom had receives violations. She also recalled incidents of this girl and her sisters being targeted even by parents who felt that the girls' curves made them inherently indecent . (One parent even photographed the girl and distributed pictures, which is mega creepy and got him scolded by the school district) Anchorage School District, taking note of the coach's outrage and of the national outcry, released a statement just days after the disqualifcation. “The disqualification appears to stem from a difference of opinion in the interpretation of the rules governing high school swim uniforms,” it begins. The statement continues: “Immediately after the disqualification, the Dimond HS swim coach filed a protest with the official to contest the decision.” We intend to gather all the facts surrounding the disqualification so we can accurately address the matter with officials,” the district adds. “And, they conclude, they will “take appropriate action to ensure fair, equitable competition and consistent application of the rules for this athlete and her peers.” Well, that internal inquiry by the Anchorage School District concluded that the 17-year-old athlete was unfairly targeted. They sent an appeal to the Alaska School Activities Association, who had to have known that this was coming. It took only one hour for the ASAA to reverse the disqualification. Like in one of the early Harry Potter books where magic sports still mattered, all points were restored to the Dimond team. The ASAA is still mulling over whether to decertify the referee and also whether to suspend the clearly unfair “suit coverage rule.”

Lili Reinhart is our Tuesday queen because she is finally giving the people what they want! Answers.  It has been months since we received any updates on Lili and Cole Sprouse’s relationship since reports spread that they broke up. When the news first broke, so did the internet.  Fans have been dying to know the truth behind the two’s romantic involvement, and finally, everyone can calm down because Lili is here to inform you that they’re back together!  While promoting her new movie Hustlers at the Toronto International Film Festival, Lili sat down with Coveteur  to chat about the movie, fashion trends, and most importantly, her current standing with Cole!  And she was really the most perfect interviewee because she did not hold back, TYVM!  The conversation strayed from fashion to makeup to Halloween plans, which yep, she revealed include Cole!  The outlet asked her about her Halloween costume plans and that’s when the Riverdale actress dropped the bomb and called Sprouse her boyfriend .  It really doesn’t get more official or clearer than that, folks.  Here is how her response went:  “I am [skilled at special-effect makeup]!” Reinhart began. “Oh my god, I haven’t done that in a really long time, actually. I kind of went from special-effects makeup to face painting.” “So I’ve done a lot in the past,” she continues. “Now I don’t really have the time, which sounds so stupid, but I really don’t. It takes a lot of time to do those things.”  “I think I’m leaning in towards a character for Halloween. I think I’m going to do it with my boyfriend, Cole.” she actually said.  “I don’t want to spoil it if it’s not going to happen, but it’s a TV duo.” We’re VERY here for all of this.  And great timing, because now we will probably even be here for season 4 of Riverdale  —  Jughead just wouldn’t have been the same without their real-life chemistry.  Ok, it probably would’ve, they’re great actors, but our hearts are very happy.  Back in July, multiple reports spread that the Riverdale co-stars called it quits after two years of dating.  A source told E! News that they broke up earlier in the summer but “could be heading back in the direction of getting together.” Reinhart and Sprouse both broke their silence on the split rumors by mocking their own cover story from  W Magazine .  “BREAKING: A reliable source has confirmed that none of you know s–t,” Reinhart wrote in an Instagram alongside the cover photo.  She even took to Twitter to share some advice to her followers, saying, “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet, kids.” ‘Reliable source’ can kiss my ass.” she wrote.  Jeesh.  Life would’ve been much easier if she could’ve just put the rumors to rest and called him her dang “boyfriend” at the time, just sayin’.  It’s still unclear what exactly happened between the two earlier this summer, but it’s easy to assume they probably went on a break.
