Meet The Prairie View Student That Created This Dope Pyramid Eye Palette

Source: Smoove Gal / Smoove Gal With social media so saturated with products being thrown at us, it often feels like we’re in a daze just swiping on our feeds. But a few months ago, something rare happened to me. During my normal timeline graze, I came across something that grabbed my attention and made me ask myself, “Wait a minute, what is this?!” See, someone on my timeline retweeted one of the dopest structured eye palettes I have ever seen. First, shaped like a pyramid, SmooveGal Beauty’s three-dimensional Egyptian Paradise Palette ($40) boasts a whopping 24 deeply pigmented hues, ranging from an emerald green matte to a champagne neutral shimmer. With a range like that, there’s something for every look, trend and season of the year, which I adore. Even better: The EP palette was created by Autumn Hulett , a 20-year-old Black woman who attends Prairie View A&M University. (I super adore) I NEED EVERYONE TO RETWEET THIS ! The makeup community needs a 3 dimensional eyeshadow palette invented by a black woman in their households !!!! This is SERIOUS! https://t.co/ZhbpVh0MuQ — Undeniably Dope Individual (@FlyBrownHuniee) September 3, 2019 After seeing the viral tweet, I just had to know more about the woman behind the product. Doing some research, I found that SmooveGal initially started with a lash line before Hulett decided to expand to shadows. I reached out to Hulett and from our phone conversation, I was super impressed with her professionalism, eye for design and utter passion for the beauty game. Here’s what the incredible marketing major had to say about her EP palette, breaking into the industry and what’s up next. HelloBeautiful: So, please tell me. Where did SmooveGal come from?  Autumn Hulett: Well, I had this job in high school, but I got fired because I didn’t want to drive across town to go to work. (Laughs) But I knew I needed money. Coming from a family of hustlers, I knew how to make it work. So I started SmooveGal and initially started selling accessories and wallets. But I was also really into beauty and I love switching up my look so people don’t recognize me. At the time, I also loved wearing lashes and would go to the beauty supply store down the road and buy a pack of $1 lashes and I would end up spending $40 because they didn’t last. I was wasting my money and that’s when it hit me that I needed to create, buy and sell my lashes. HB: Well, and being at an HBCU with so many Black women, you have the perfect market right at your fingertips.  AH : Exactly. Black women are the largest consumers when it comes to beauty and makeup. Plus, [a lot] of Black women are really into lashes! So I came out with my line freshman year after I got a refund check and was like, “Let’s do this!” I started dragging a big old wagon of lashes around campus, but the wagon was too small, so I googled “hot dog” cart,” bought one for $300, fixed it up and started selling my lashes out of that. HB: That is so awesome! So you went from lashes to shadows?   AH: Sophomore year I was my dorm chilling and I just asked myself what if I did a pyramid palette and what If it was 3-dimensional? OH SNAP! [Laughs). So I looked around and had all of these old lash boxes and I started cutting them and began carving out the idea. I took a mirror from an old palette and started gluing, taping and cutting holes into things. From there, I tried to get it into production and I was told no a lot. Folks told me it’s impossible and that no one would be able to create it. But I found someone who could do it. HB: Walk me through the shadows and the structure. I’ve never seen anything like it before. AH: Well, there are 24 shades, with 6 colors on each of the four panels. The middle is the mirror and it can stand up on its own, be a vanity to go or just a decorative piece in your room. HB: How did you end up picking the shadows.  AH: I have a lot of friends at my HBCU that are makeup artists and I asked them did they mind using my shadows on their customers. I also wanted feedback, honest feedback such as which shadows worked better than others, which were easier to blend, you name it. I didn’t want them to let up on me. If these shadows sucked, let me know. What they told me was helpful, because I needed to make sure these colors showed up on and worked for Black women. Source: Smoove Gal / Smoove Gal HB: With names such as Isis and Nubia, what is the palette’s theme?  AH: While anyone can and should use the palette, it’s an ode to Black women and an ode to Egyptian culture. That mattered to me. To do the research, make sure I got it right. Goodmorning orders are going out this morning pic.twitter.com/jfk9B35Ddx — Undeniably Dope Individual (@FlyBrownHuniee) November 4, 2019 HB: Did you expect the response to your palette to be this overwhelming? That tweet went viral girl.  AH: Never! I mean, I know have this great concept, but I didn’t think it would be like that. I am just happy that people are recognizing how dope it is and looks. HB: This is such a great time to be a Black woman in beauty. From Mented to Fenty, it’s so great to see this product be part of the landscape, BUT be so different than what’s already out there.  AH: Thank you. I try to stay humble because I am still a baby out here. I’m literally just someone out of Texas, an HBCU, but no one has seen this before. And God forbid Rihanna or Kylie comes out with some crazy spaceship concept, but all in all, I did this, first and I am proud of that. HB: As you should be. Finally, what’s next for you and SmoothGal? AH: Well…I can’t say too much other than it will be a whole stepping outside the box and that the next collection, which should come out next spring, will be related to the EP palette too. BEAUTIES: The EP palette is now 20 percent off ($32)! Purchase it  here.   This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity. MODEL MONDAY: Youtuber Turned Model Chizi Duru Wants To Advocate For Pay Transparency Amongst Influencers

See the article here:

Source: Wendy Ngala / Wendy Ngala Name: Chizi Duru IG: @ChiziDuru      Agency: Self-Represented Claim to Fame: Duru started a huge YouTube channel after her dad encouraged her to cut off her hair and go natural as a pre-teen.  Black women are chronically underpaid . Studies show this is a fact across a number of industries but in creative fields it is expounded on by an intentional lack of transparency. YouTube star turned professional model Chizi Duru is committed to changing this in creative fields. “There’s kind of been this culture of keeping quiet about the things that you’re doing, how much you’re making, what deals you’re making, what does your deal entail,” said Duru in an exclusive interview with Hello Beautiful .  View this post on Instagram What's one thing you've learned to love about yourself? For me, it was my hair texture. Yep. I remember getting so upset at my hair because it wouldn't curl “the right way” and it was so. hard. to. comb. But now I love it! It all came down to being mindful of my thoughts towards my hair and learning what worked for it. Now she's my crown, a game-changer, and I'll forever be thankful for my 4C hair Comment below, let's talk! A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Sep 20, 2017 at 5:09pm PDT Appearing in campaigns for major brands like Burlington Coat Factory and Clarks she has been able to see the full extent of a company’s resources from a more empowered perspective. The infiltration of influencers into spaces traditional models have dominated has been met with some tension but Duru feels Youtubers can actually be assets to what she refers to as, “traditional models.” Cultivating a personal brand can fortify a model against rapidly shifting industry trends or missteps made by representatives . Many of the top models in the industry have cultivated a more personable approach to the faces on the billboards. “You can always use that to negotiate a deal for an even higher deal,” said Duru.  View this post on Instagram The goal is to continue to foster my self expression & individuality Rocking this outfit from @modcloth #ModClothSquad #SayItLouder @liketoknow.it #liketkit http://liketk.it/2wu6e A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Jul 10, 2018 at 2:20pm PDT “I definitely think there’s a bridge that’s being made,” she added. She wants her voice to be among those crossing that bridge.  “What I love about our generation and even the generation coming up after us is we’re more open and we’re like, ‘No we don’t have to keep quiet about things!’ I’m going to tell you how much I make so that you don’t ever get into a position where you’re undercharging or underselling yourself or you’re getting lowballed.” View this post on Instagram When you see your future husband walk by & silently thank God your braidout fully dried #happyhumpday #4cnaturalhair #naturalhair : @nvmwendy A post shared by CHIZI DURU (@chiziduru) on Sep 6, 2017 at 11:15am PDT She created an offline space to further conversations about knowing your worth through the development of the Afro Brunch series. “You need a community and that’s something that I didn’t have. There’s no books on it. Unless you talk to someone and ask them hey how much did you charge for this you’re probably not going to find that easily on the internet right now.”  She hopes her modeling work will allow her to use her face and 4C hair to add diversity to visual representation in mainstream media. She uses that privilege to advocate for inclusion and consideration of women with “with darker skin and kinky hair,” when she is in the room with brands often pushing back on their creative visions. “Whenever you are in the room with just people you’re bound to connect in some way.”  Duru desires for her image in store ads and commercials to not only impact little Black girls but people passing by who might not see them as the standard for what is beautiful. “I just I think it opens up their minds as well to see that beauty doesn’t just look one way,” she said.   View this post on Instagram Everyone needs a break from their natural hair and I like to protect mine by wearing wigs. You always see the woman that’s in the forefront is the lighter woman and it’s kind of subconsciously tells you like ‘Well I’m dark skinned, I’m not always going to be number one kind of thing.’ And I think just being able to be representation for that little girl that has darker skin or has kinky hair and them being able to see me on tv for a national commercial with Burlington they’re going to go ‘Wow! So this is possible for me,’ and that completely changes someone’s mindset and what they think is possible for them, which is everything because that can change someone’s trajectory in their life in general.”  Tyra Banks inspired Duru to speak up for herself on and off set. Arguably one of the model influencer hybrids she addressed topics like fat shaming on her talk show the way Duru does on her YouTube channel. “She started gaining weight and she started gaining backlash for that and I just remember really connecting to her story, like I’m gaining weight too I’m not a figure eight.”  She started using the phrase “You cannot talk to me anyhow,” to formalize her rejection of other people’s labels and refusals to meet her standards. “Even if I’m not a two or a six or a zero you still can’t talk to me anyhow. It’s something that I said because it doesn’t matter how what size I am how big or how small or what I look like you still cant talk to me anyhow.”  DON’T MISS:  MODEL MONDAY: Nyakim Gatwech Is A Model With A Message For Black Girls MODEL MONDAY: Shawana Vickers Chooses Confidence Over Clout Chasing MODEL MONDAY: Erica Campbell’s Modeling Career Began After She Was Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer [ione_media_gallery src=”https://hellobeautiful.com” id=”3062746″ overlay=”true”]

Kris Jenner Finally Addresses Those O.J. Simpson Affair Rumors

We all know O.J. Simpson is almost definitely guilty of murdering two innocent people back in June of 1994. But is the former running back also guilty of a lesser unethical act? Did he also have an affair with Kris Jenner many decades ago and might he actually be the biological father of Khloe Kardashian ? This may seem like a wild rumor, but remember two things: Kris was tight with O.J.’s late ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson because Jenner’s ex-husband, Robert, was good friends with O.j., even serving on his legal team during his infamous murder trial. Khloe is taller than her sisters. These are really the only two facts that support this ongoing rumor of O.J. being Khloe’s dad —  but the speculation has run so rampant that Kris addressed such talk on Sunday night’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. “June’s always depressing. It always reminds me of the anniversary of Nicole’s death,” Jenner told with mother, MJ Shannon, on air. “And it’s like, year after year, it becomes a little more faded.” Brown Simpson was killed — alongside Ron Goldman — on June 12, 1994. This summer marked the 25th anniversary of the tragedy; and Jenner explained last night that she was asked to sit down for an interview to  mark the awful milestone. She turned it down, however. “The last thing we want to do is keep talking about that side of it again,” Jenner said. “Just with [what] the public wants to know, and what they’re interested in, is not the same thing as what our memories are and where our hearts are.” Makes sense to us. Kris then delved into chatter of her having slept with O.J. and expressed total disdain over their existence. “It’s really kind of pathetic that when rumors get started the media gives it life and breath,” she lamented. “And on the anniversary of Nicole’s death, it’s so tasteless and disgusting.” Jenner could have ignored the unfounded gossip, of course, but chose to be proactive on the episode instead. Yup, she confirmed plans to sue the unnamed publication that printed the O.J. Simpson affair story. “It’s just lie after lie after lie after lie and there’s only so much that one human being can take,” Jenner said to Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. Couldn’t Kris just focus on “the good,” as suggested by Khloe and not waste any time or energy on this nonsense? No way, that would not make for a good episode storyline, Kris replied. Just kidding. She said this instead: “I think it’s just really unfair to Nicole’s family, my family for these stupid rumors to be flying around out there. It’s always right there, under the surface. “My team has decided to take legal action because, once and for all, I have to do something about it.” Watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians Season 17 Episode 8 Online O.J. apparently felt the same way. He actually released a video that addressed this same rumor , and he allegedly ran into Jonathan Cheban, according to Kim. “He goes, ‘I know you’re best friends with the girls. Please tell them I say hi,'” the KKW Beauty boss claimed to Khloe and Scott Disick. “‘I’m so proud of them. I see everything that’s going on.'” In the end, Jenner was happy that Simpson set the record straight, declaring that the issue was “done and done” as far as she’s concerned. ‘RHOAS12’ Recap: Porsha and Kenya Bond Over Barbie And Babies

Read this article:

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Real Housewives of Atlanta is back for the twelfth time! Can you believe it has been 12 seasons? Time flies when you’re watching reality TV shenanigans. Anyway, the cast and crew have gone through a lot of changes but this season, Eva, Cynthia, Nene, Porsha, Kandi and even Kenya are back for another round of drama. We knew that Kenya wouldn’t be gone for long, especially with the drama going on with her soon-to-be-ex husband, Marc Daily. Kenya isn’t the only one going through drama with her man. Porsha is also going through it. Porsha’s man Dennis was in #TheBlogs for allegedly cheating on Porsha while she was pregnant. The thing is, Tasha K, the blogger who started the rumor about one woman in particular named Sincerely, is a suspect source. She has a proven track record of literally making rumors up and it has been working for her because snippets of her vlog made it to the episode, but I digress. Anyway, Sincerely ran into Kandi, Cynthia and Eva at Old Lady Gang and told them she doesn’t even know Dennis. The girls take this information back to Porsha and she’s not even all that thrilled because this is just one clearance of many. Now, wasn’t Porsha the same one talking about how she wasn’t gonna as Dennis any questions, back when they first began dating, and proceeded to move at lightning speed? Anyway, she got her baby. Porsha and Kenya both got the babies they desperately wanted and that is the very thing that has brought them together. You already know they’ve had a contentious relationship since they began filming RHOA together, and of course, there was that time when Porsha literally dragged Kenya. All of that is in the past now and they have been connecting not just as new moms, but new moms with man drama. Kenya had a cute Barbie-themed party for Brooklyn just as a way for people to get to meet her. So, the crew came dressed up in various iterations of Barbie to show some love. Porsha and Kenya had a moment with their baby girls where they talked about how they are finally ready to just let it go, and motherhood has a lot to do with that decision. Yay motherhood! So, what do you think? Do you think this friendship will last or is it only a matter of time before they spazz out on each other again? Lastly, speaking of Brooklyn, she actually turned one today!  Kenya posted a sweet message to her daughter on IG today. Check that out along with other pics from the episode. Over It: Summer Walker Says She’s ‘Done’ With The Music Industry Amid Constant Criticism From Fans

The songstress announced this weekend that she’s “done” with the industry; “interviews, photoshoots, videos and shows” after she finishes her current “Over It” tour. Why? Well because according to Summer’s she’s been harshly criticized by fans who can’t accept her “differences” and think she should participate in a “Miss America bad b*** contest” every day. This comes after fans went IN on the singer when she revealed that she “hates showers” with a picture of a basin filled with face wash, wipes, a foaming bath product, micellar water, and baby oil gel. Rob Kardashian Leaves the House! Steps Out With New Girlfriend!

Folks, you might want to take whatever plans you have the next decade, and put them on hold for a few years. Because it’s looking more and more like the 2020s are gonna belong to Rob Kardashian. Rob has spent the past several months away from the spotlight, and usually that means the Reclusive Kardashian is in a bad place. And it sounds like that’s Rob’s most recent time away from the spotlight did indeed begin with a rough patch. “No one ever sees him,” a source close to the former reality star recently told Radar Online. “He just hangs out at his house all the time.” Sadly it sounds as though the 32-year-old spends much of his time in a state of panic over how he’s being perceived by the public. The insider says Rob “has Google alerts on himself and flies into a panic every time one pops up.” In early October, one insider reported that Rob had not been seen in public for 2 years and left the house only when absolutely necessary. Obviously, that’s a worrisome state of affairs, but as we said, there’s reason to believe things will soon turn around for Rob. In fact, the past week has featured multiple accounts of Dream’s father slowly re-emerging into the light. Last week, a friend reported that Rob is now sober and has lost 20 pounds , largely as a result of giving up booze. And while the process will no doubt continue to be a slow one, Rob took a major step forward on Halloween night by leaving the house to party with his sisters, as well as a possible new love interest. According to a new report from Radar, Rob spent the night raging in honor of Kendall Jenner’s birthday (the model turns 24 on November 3). Interestingly, it seems he passed much of the evening in close conversation with Kylie Jenner’s BFF Stassie Karanikolaou. Normally, we’d make fun of a 32-year-old dad for spending the night creeping on a friend of his 22-year-old sister, but in Rob’s case, we’ll applaud it as a sign of progress. Unfortunately, it seems Kris Jenner’s only son still has a long way to go with regard to both his physical and mental health. “Rob suffers terribly from diabetes, but he makes doctors come to him instead so he doesn’t have to leave the house,” the source added. “Rob is absolutely terrified of unflattering photographs leaking of himself.” We wish Rob all the best as he continues to move forward. And we hope to see him back on Keeping Up With the Kardashians sometime in the very near future. View Slideshow: Rob Kardashian: Roasted on Twitter for Blac Chyna Slut-Shaming

Amy Roloff Poses at Mother’s Grave, Remains in Mourning

Amy Roloff still has a lot to say about her mother. The Little People, Big World matriarch has posted in detail on numerous occasions over the past few weeks, using the time and space to pay tribute to her late mother, Patricia. The latter sadly passed away at the age of 86 on September 24. That was over a month ago, of course, but the pain is still very much raw for Amy. She and her loved ones laid Patricia to rest a few days ago and Amy is posing above at her mom’s grave. “Went to my Mon’s gravesite today,” wrote Roloff as her latest caption, explaining in heartbreaking detail: “To feel her presence, talk w/ her, pray and be thankful for what her life gave to me. Can hardly believe that it’s been one month since my Mom’s passing and one week since her memorial. “Still feels like just yesterday.” This isn’t the first time Amy has penned a beautiful message about Patricia . But there’s no limit on one’s grief, of course. We’d understand if she kept mentioning her mom everyday for the rest of the year. Continued the reality star here: Sometimes you just don’t feel or want to move on but you must. That is one of several reasons I wanted to stay a little longer and be here to hang out with my Dad when the memorial service was over, when a lot of my family needed to get back to their home and it’s just you. Just maybe I may help him move on a little easier and realize a new normal. Amy has never provided an exact cause of death for her mother. But it’s our understanding that Patricia suffered some sort of bone infection from which she never recorded. “It’s hard, very hard and sometimes sad that she’s not here anymore, except in our hearts and memories,” continued Amy here, thinking of her remaining parent and adding: “I’m glad I could be here with him.” This tragedy struck Amy during an ironic time, not long as she and Chris Marek got engaged . So it’s been quite a roller coaster of emotion of late for the beloved mother of four. “For my Dad he’s missing the person that was his friend, love, wife and mother for collectively over 70 years,” Amy now says. She concludes: “What a legacy. Love my family and I rejoice because of her faith in the Lord, she’s with him now and not in pain anymore.” “Rest In Peace I love you Mom.” And this is how she concluded her moving message: As the rain drizzles down, I stand in the quiet among the trees and listen to remember her so I don’t forget. Now my mind begins to shift slightly as I think about coming home to my kids, Chris, my family. I have a new grand child coming soon and another a month and half later, projects, work, plans to create more memories. Life moves on whether we’re ready or not. I have my mom in my heart, faith and love. Coming to her gravesite reminds me that life moves on and I’m going to keep doing my best. Love you Mom.  View Slideshow: Little People, Big World Cast: Then vs. Now

There are also others that go the distance when it comes to skincare , doing preventative measures to prevent fine lines, wrinkles, and acne, like regular facials or even laser light therapy. These skincare methods, while they work, can be very, very pricey and often require multiple visits to truly see results. Enter the world of laser facials. If you want to take your facial routine to the next level, you may want to consider a laser facial. A laser facial uses a laser to deep clean your pores, leave your skin feeling brighter, and improving the texture. After several visits, if you suffer from acne, it’s also been known to clear that up too. If you don’t have $1K to drop, you can go to Skin Laundry. Skin Laundry is working towards making fancy facials more accessible to everyday people. Skin Laundry was founded in Santa Monica, California and currently has 23 locations globally. If you are lucky to live by a Skin Laundry, you might want to consider popping in. The company is led by Dr. Adam Geyer, a board-certified dermatologist. It was founded by Yen Reis, who struggled with acne for years. They boast the Laser & Light Facial, which is 15 minutes, no downtime, and only $75.00. While all lasers are considered non surgical, not all lasers have zero downtime. Non-ablative lasers, or lasers that only use heat but don’t injure the surface of the skin, require no downtime. Ablative lasers is deemed one of the most effective cosmetic procedures for improving skin aging. The procedure users lasers to deliver an intense wavelength of light into the skin and remove the outer layers of the epidermis. This procedure can have 2-3 weeks of recovery. Upon entering the location, if feels like an airy medical spa. I signed in on the iPAD and chatted with Dr. Adam Geyer, a private practice dermatologist based in TriBeca, who is also the Medical Director of Skin Laundry. Before my appointment, I admit, I was very skeptical. I fall in the range of someone who has a good skincare routine, but I haven’t delved in the medical arena of options like fillers or laser treatments. It just seems aggressive and could aggressive really improve my skin? I held nothing back. Dr. Geyer explained the goal of Skin Laundry is “to bring light and laser treatments from the rarified offices of dermatologists to a wider audience and to do so safely and efficiently.” As mentioned earlier, laser light therapy and facials can cost up to $1K. Dr. Geyer shared, “In a dermatologists office, if something is in the $400-$500 range, it will be in the $75 to $150 range here.” They keep the costs at a minimum in several ways. One, they allow specially trained nurses to administer the procedures. Dr. Geyer explained, “at a dermatologist office, it’s the doctor who is directly performing it often, depends on what office you are going to.” Another reason is that medical offices have a higher overhead because there is more staff. Dr. Geyer explained, “We keep costs low by keeping the treatments efficient.” They keep the menu small because they “want to do a few things really well.” I kind of appreciated that there are only three treatment offerings, knowing that the staff is well trained in these arenas. Source: Danielle James / Courtesy of Danielle James I signed up for the lowest level treatment: the 15 minute laser and light therapy. Dr. Geyer reassured me, “We want customers and clients to grow within their treatments. What you would start out with today is not an aggressive treatment, nothing here is aggressive.” The fact that nothing is aggressive also keeps the costs affordable. I was still a little leery. A laser on my face? I looked around the office and saw none of the models or people with my skin tone. He shared, “You aren’t pushing the envelope where something needs to be done in a Doctors hands where energy settings are at that line between risk and benefit.” He continued, “You are doing treatments that are safe and universally safe. It’s something where yes, you will require more treatments in order to maintain and build results because we’re not an all in one approach where you’re going in for a total overhaul and having a significant recovery, but with risk.” I instantly felt a bit better about the treatment. After we spoke, I was introduced to a nurse who would be performing my treatment. Before going in, they had me wipe my face with this pad. Once laying on the table, the nurse went over with me what we would be doing again (even though I did it in the iPAD) and asked if I had any questions. Then we got started.

TRIED IT: I Got A 15 Minute Laser Facial To Help With Anti-Aging And Here’s What Happened To My Skin

Becky G Slutty Halloween of the Day

I still don’t know who Becky G is, I guess I could google it but why bother. I am only posting this because I like her approach to Halloween photoshoots and not just because there is a Luchador mask in it, because my whole branding on this site, not that I’ve done any real branding, but you get what I am saying, has been the Luchador mask, that unfortunately has led to at least one person saying “what do you think you’re jack black or something” or “hey Nacho Libre get your own schtick”…but when Becky G does it…she’s half naked…and thus better…because when girls are half naked, despite how easy it is to do, it works.
