Lindsay Lohan’s Father, Friends Protest Jail Time On ‘Larry King Live’

‘I don’t think jail is going to change her; I think she needs to change herself,’ one pal says. By Terri Schwartz Lindsay Lohan was checked into jail Tuesday (July 20) for the second time in her 24 years, but though her sentence is likely to be shortened from 90 days to 14 , there are many close to her who are arguing that time behind bars is not what she needs right now. Her father, Michael Lohan, and his attorney Lisa Bloom, as well as Lindsay’s photographer friends Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri and Marcus Klinko, went on CNN’s “Larry King Live” Tuesday night to argue their case, marking Michael’s second time on the show to talk about his daughter’s probation violation. As far as the shortened sentence, Bloom said the move was due to overcrowding in Los Angeles prisons, not because of special treatment for Lohan. She said 50,000 people were relieved of their sentences early in L.A. prisons due to overcrowding, and she felt that the young celebrity was actually worse off than other inmates because she would be left alone for 23 hours a day. An attorney could have filed an appeal on Lohan’s behalf to move for her to be forced to attend rehab before her jail time instead of after, Bloom said, a move that she and Lohan’s father both supported. Since Lohan is estranged from her father , Bloom had been reaching out on Michael’s behalf to encourage her to attend her court-ordered rehab, but Lohan ignored it. “This is Michael Lohan’s life: fighting for his daughter,” Bloom said of his devotion to supporting Lindsay. “The Insider” correspondent Chris Jacobs described the situation Lohan would be facing in jail, saying she would be well-fed, with a dinner tonight of turkey, pasta, applesauce and milk, but she will be without cigarettes, makeup and accessories and access to the Internet. Bloom reluctantly added that Lohan would still be provided some prescription drugs in prison but in limited quantities, which, in her words, “is an improvement.” “Jail helped because I wanted it to help,” Michael said about his experience behind bars. “But then again, I went into jail, Larry, because I wanted to be sober.” He added: “She’s got to get off prescription drugs.” He said he is optimistic for his daughter, because she is court-ordered to attend rehab after she gets out of jail but is pessimistic about the issues she is sure to have after she is released because of her time in prison. However, Pal-Chaudhuri and Klinko think Lohan’s bigger problem is who she is surrounded by in her personal life. Klinko said he feels Lohan doesn’t need jail, but needs rehab and someone she can trust. “What she needs is to have some time away from the cameras, from people following her,” Pal-Chaudhuri said. “But I really think that Lindsay needs to figure out what she needs to do for herself.” She added that no one is interested in what Lohan thinks is good for her: “I don’t think jail is going to change her; I think she needs to change herself,” Pal-Chaudhuri said. Lindsay Lohan Expected To Serve Only 14 Days Of 90-Day Jail Term

Actress’ projected release date is August 1 or 2. By Jayson Rodriguez Lindsay Lohan enters L.A. County jail Wednesday Photo: L.A. County Sheriff’s Department A Beverly Hills judge was adamant that Lindsay Lohan serve jail time for violating her probation, ordering the actress to 90 days behind bars and 90 days in an inpatient rehab facility earlier this month. “It’s like someone who cheats but doesn’t think it’s cheating if they don’t get caught,” Judge Marsha Revel said about the troubled star’s behavior at the time. On Tuesday (July 20), only hours after Lohan turned herself in to begin her sentence, it was reported that her bid would be reduced to a possible 14 days due to prison overcrowding. According to the Los Angeles Times, a spokesman in the Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the former Disney star has a projected release date of August 1 or 2. Because Lohan is a nonviolent offender, she is eligible to serve only 25 percent of her already reduced time of 51 days, which was brought down from 90 days because of overcrowding, Steve Whitmore told the Times. Lohan changed lawyers after her sentencing, and new attorney Robert Shapiro , who represented O.J. Simpson during his 1994 murder trial, reportedly said he would push for his client to be placed in rehab instead of prison. When it became clear the actress would have to serve jail time, though, she returned to her original lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, who accompanied Lohan to court Tuesday morning, where the “Mean Girls” star turned herself in. Kathy Griffin Emotionally ‘Raw’ Over Levi Johnston Engagement

‘I’m very raw about my feelings of being dumped,’ Griffin said about Johnston’s re-engagement to Bristol Palin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim Kathy Griffin Photo: MTV News Just last summer, Kathy Griffin and Levi Johnston hit the town together at the Teen Choice Awards. The duo were all smiles as they walked down the carpet arm in arm. Cut to one year later and Johnston has left the comedienne heartbroken with the news that he’s re-engaged to former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin . Suffice to say, Griffin isn’t holding up too well. “You’re talking to me at a very emotionally difficult time because my lover, who I thought was my fiance, Levi Johnston, dumped me,” she joked at the 2010 VH1 Do Something Awards in L.A. Of course, Griffin is managing to smile through the pain. She made a video spoofing how she handled the news of Johnston’s engagement. In it, with Celine Dion’s “All By Myself” playing in the background, Griffin tears apart his Playgirl spread and teases that she may soon set her sights on Taylor Lautner, thanks to his dreamy GQ cover. “And I’ve done a YouTube about it and I’m very raw about my feelings of being dumped,” she said. “And I think any woman or gay man worth his salt will identify with my raw pain that is very, very serious.” So, Griffin is hoping that fans will stand by her in her pain now that she’s got a bunch of projects on the horizon. “It’s weird because through the pain, you also see me promoting my show, my Twitter, my books,” she teased. Recently Johnston and Palin spoke to US Weekly about their engagement, explaining that they reconnected three months ago while working on a custody plan for their son Tripp and unexpectedly rekindled their romance. “I really thought we were over,” Johnston said. “So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking — and then we took Tripp for a walk.” What do you think of Griffin’s video about Johnston? Tell us in the comments! Lindsay Lohan’s Father Is ‘Devastated’ Over Daughter’s Jail Time

‘He doesn’t believe she should be incarcerated,’ Michael Lohan’s lawyer says in a statement. By Jocelyn Vena Lindsay Lohan in court on Wednesday Photo: Pool/ Getty Images Lindsay Lohan ‘s parents, Michael and Dina Lohan, were there for their daughter’s 10-minute appearance at a Beverly Hills courtroom Tuesday morning (July 20) before she was handcuffed and taken away to begin serving a 90-day jail sentence . In addition to her mom, The Associated Press reports that Lohan also arrived at the courthouse with teenage sister Ali, who reportedly wiped away Lindsay’s tears. When entering the courthouse, Lohan — wearing a black cropped jacket, a sleeveless top, a black corset, tight jeans, black boots and dark sunglasses — walked quickly through the camera line and was showered by confetti by one admirer as she made her way inside. Although her mother has yet to release a statement about her daughter’s jail sentence as of press time, her father addressed the sentencing through his attorney, Lisa Bloom, outside the courthouse. “Michael spent the morning praying for his daughter,” Bloom said, according to Us Weekly. “He doesn’t believe she should be incarcerated. He is devastated she is going to jail, and he is ready and able to help her at any time.” It wasn’t the only statement Michael reportedly made at the courthouse that day. Lohan’s estranged father shouted out, “I love you Lindsay!” as his daughter was taken away. In the days after Lindsay’s sentencing earlier this month, Michael made several television appearances . In an interview with Larry King , he said he was feeling “dismay, but at the same time a little satisfaction that she’s going to rehab. But the last thing in the world I wanted was for my daughter to go to jail. … Any kind of jail is harsh, especially for a young lady like Lindsay that doesn’t need jail. I’ve been there myself, and I know that jail didn’t do anything for me with my addictions. She needs help.” Related Photos Lindsay Lohan Goes To Court The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

Pete Wentz: Fans ‘May Recognize’ Some Black Cards Bandmates

While the bassist won’t reveal full lineup yet, he tells MTV News who isn’t in the band. By James Montgomery Pete Wentz Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images for Digitas Pete Wentz will be the first one to tell you that no matter what he does from here on out, he’ll always be known as “the dude from Fall Out Boy.” So as he prepares to launch his first post-FOB project — a group he’s calling Black Cards — he’s not shying away from talking about his (former?) band, as well. He knows the comparisons between the two are inevitable. That said, those comparisons are also pretty unfounded. Much like the music being made by fellow FOBs Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley these days, Wentz’s Black Cards is about as far removed from Fall Out Boy as you can get. And yet, he must still answer the questions, about just what his new endeavors (and the endeavors of his bandmates) mean for the future of the band. “We’ve always been friends, so I think everyone is interested in supporting each other’s projects,” Wentz wrote in an email to MTV News. “I really miss touring and seeing the guys everyday onstage. At the same time, I feel like I want to keep traveling and creating new ideas. I think what everyone is doing now will be important to the legacy of Fall Out Boy.” And while words like “legacy” will no doubt make the Fall Out fanatics a little nervous, Wentz knows that — for the time being, at least — he’s got to move forward, meaning he’s primarily focused on assembling his Black Cards band. Last week, he revealed to Rolling Stone the identity of his mysterious frontwoman: Her name is Bebe Rexha. And on Tuesday (July 20), he decided to dispel some rumors about who isn’t in the group, namely former Chiodos frontman Craig Owens, who’s signed to Wentz’s Decaydance label, or Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie. “I can confirm [that] neither Craig& #8212; who has amazing new songs and a new record soon — or Brendon — who is working on Panic! in between beating the sh– out of me at ping-pong — are in the group,” Wentz wrote. “The other guys, some people may recognize, but no one who people will be like, ‘Oh My God, they got that guy???’ As soon as we figure out everyone’s role, we’ll announce them. Expect some news in the next week or so.” So, it looks like we’ll just have to wait for more information. Like we said, he’s got to keep moving forward. Are you excited to hear new music from Pete’s Black Cards band? Tell us in the comments!
