NBC Olympic Commentators Ripping on Athletes: A Greatest Hits Montage

Hey, if you’re not good enough to be in the Olympic Games, you can at least get a TV job as a commentator and rip the athletes to shreds! This hilarious montage of NBC’s London Olympics coverage pulls together some of the best / worst digs made by the network’s announcers. Some of the commentary isn’t as harsh as it is honest, but in some situations that line does seem to be crossed. See what you think below:

Cheryl Tweedy Works Her Really Big Sweater

I was a little annoyed that the London Olympics didn’t feature British hottie Cheryl Tweedy a whole lot more, I think they could have at least thrown her in the background in a sexy little skirt or something, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still love her. Here she is out in a giant sweater and a mini skirt. Not exactly the hottest combination, but the sweater is a little see through so I’ll take it. Nice brassiere. Lame.

Michael Phelps: Taking a Bath for Louis Vuitton

Well, that didn’t take long. Within hours of the Spice Girls and company closing down the London Olympics, Michael Phelps has been featured in his first post-2012 Games ad campaign. The first of a great many, we’re sure. In this simple spot, the most decorated Olympian of all-time just can’t escape the water, staring intently into the camera from a bathtub, a Louis Vuitton bag by his side. We’re sure he’d prefer if girlfriend Megan Rossee were in there with him instead. But the massive check written to Phelps by the purse maker likely offsets that disappointment… Phelps has also booked his first new television gig. He will follow in the cleated footsteps of Charles Barkley and Rush Limbaugh as a student of of Tiger Woods’ former coach Hank Haney, appearing as a willing golf protege on The Haney Project .

Spice Girls Reunite For Olympics Closing Ceremony

The Spice Girls were together again, if only for one night. The closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics featured a number of performances by English music stars, including the UK’s beloved fab five. The best-selling girl group of all time made perhaps biggest splash at Sunday night’s big event, busting out a medley of their catchy pop hits. Watch a two-minute clip of their performance below:

One Direction Performs at Olympics Closing Ceremony

It’s safe to say that One Direction has hit the big time. The popular boy band was one of several acts to perform in front of a live and television audience of millions last night, helping to close out the London Olympics with a rendition of “What Makes You Beautiful.” While being wheeled around on the flat bed of a truck because, hey, why not?!? Watch the singing stud do their thing in the following video:

McKayla Maroney: Not Impressed By Dwight Howard Trade, Kim Kardashian, Grand Canyon

McKayla Maroney is not impressed by much. She’s just hard to please … don’t blame a girl for having high expectations of herself and others. The Olympics’ funniest Internet meme continues today with the U.S. gymnastics standout still not impressed by various people and events. Specifically, the Dwight Howard trade … the rest of the NBA may be shaking in its collective high-tops, but one sports star is so like, “Whatever.” This is not to say that McKayla’s demanding standards are reserved for sports alone. She was equally unmoved by Kim Kardashian ‘s wedding … … and Paris Hilton’s new quote-unquote “career” … … and Ryan Gosling calling her up to say congratulations … … or even the Grand Canyon. Yawn:

U.S. Women’s Soccer Team: Golden!!!

It took a last-second goal by Alex Morgan to send the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team into its Gold Medal matchup against Japan, but no such heroics were required to earn the Yanks a revenge-filled victory today: Yes, we did! By a score of 2-1, America took down the team that shocked us in last summer’s World Cup finals. Carli Lloyd scored in the eighth and 54th minutes of the game, with Yuki Ogimi netting a shot in the 63rd minute, and the U.S. held on for the prize it had been aiming for over the past two weeks. An Olympic record crowd for women’s soccer (80,203) at Wembley Stadium watched Morgan, Megan Rapinoe and company pile on to each other when the final whistle sounded, as bars and offices across the county broke out into chants and toasts just a few moments ago. Canada, meanwhile, defeated France earlier in the day to earn the Bronze.

Aly Raisman Goes For Gold on Floor Exercise: How Did She Do?

Aly Raisman has ceded much of the attention to teammate Gabby Douglas at the London Olympics, but undoubtedly emerged as a star in her own right. The 18-year-old from Massachusetts hoped to secure not one, but two individual medals in the final day of gymnastics. Was she able to achieve that? Find out below … She did! Raisman nailed her floor exercise routine to win the gold medal, scoring a 15.6 and easily topping silver medalist Catalina Ponor of Romania (15.2). Russia’s Aliya Mustafina took the bronze (14.9). Jordyn Wieber was seventh. “It was the best routine I’ve ever done,” Raisman said afterward. “My coach [Mihai Brestyan] said it was the best routine he’d ever seen me do.” The floor exercise is her strongest event. Less expected was Aly Raisman’s bronze medal not much more than an hour earlier in the balance beam. She initially finished fourth, but took the bronze after winning an appeal with the judges and then a tiebreaker with Ponor. Congratulations, Aly!!
