Lady Gaga VMA Dress 2011: A Bag of Bones?

How will Lady Gaga’s meat dress at last year’s VMAs ever be topped? By Lady Gaga’s bag of bones dress this fall, according to one report . Yes, we’re serious. The singer’s camp has not confirmed if she’ll wear it – what would a Gaga entrance be without suspense – but the outrageous getup is already being crafted with her MTV Video Music Awards appearance in mind. PigofTheMonth (dot) com, an onle retailer of BBQ meats and sauces, has offered Gaga FIVE HUNDRED GRAND to wear a yet-to-be-seen bone dress. The Ohio-based company has teamed up with a well-known fashion designer who has shown in New York, London and Paris to cook up the couture. Plans would also include using gourmet barbeque sauces accessories and makeup to accompany the skeletal contents. Sounds … rather elaborate. “We won’t reveal the number of bones that it includes just yet,” PigofTheMonth CEO Lea Richards says, adding that it weighs a modest 12 pounds. “[Gaga] will still be able to move in a normal fashion,” Richards said. The real hook that might really get Gaga to sink her teeth into this concept? The bone dress will also be auctioned off to benefit Bones for Hunger. That would be PigofTheMonth’s soon-to-be launched financial assistance program for struggling artists. So she’d be helping support good cause. If she passes, there’s still time to bone up on other options. Sorry.

Happy 66th Birthday, Helen Mirren! What’s Her Finest Onscreen Moment?

On July 26, 1945, Helen Lydia Mironoff was born in a London hospital to parents Vasiliy and Kathleen Mironoff (or Mironov depending on the spelling). During the 1950s, Vasily changed the family last name to “Mirren,” and for his young daughter, the rest is history. From her breakout role in Michael Powell’s Age of Consent to her Oscar-winning turn as Queen Elizabeth in The Queen , Mirren has been one of Hollywood’s greatest — and seemingly ageless — actresses for five decades. As Liz Lemon once said in reaction to one of Mirren’s famous bikini pics, “Is she a wizard?”

Singer Amy Winehouse Dead at 27 of "Unexplained" Causes

Troubled singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse , best known for her 2006 hit “Rehab”, became the newest musician to join rock’s infamous ” 27 club ” when her body was discovered at her London home Saturday. A security guard came to check on Winehouse Saturday after she went to bed, claiming she was tired and wanted to sleep; when the guard discovered she wasn’t breathing, he called emergency services. Authorities in London are classifying Winehouse’s death as “unexplained” pending an autopsy, though the singer’s long-standing battle with drug and alcohol addiction was well-known and a likely culprit in her death. There has already been an outpouring of Internet tributes to Winehouse, like her producer and friend Mark Ronson , who said “she was my musical soulmate & like a sister to me. this is one of the saddest days of my life.” Another tribute came from comedian and recovering addict Russell Brand , who wrote “Not all of us know someone with the incredible talent that Amy had, but we all know drunks and junkies and they all need help and the help is out there.” Winehouse’s family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, saying Amy’s death “has left a gaping hole in our lives.” Winehouse unfortunately only released two albums, 2003’s Frank and 2006’s Back to Black , in her musical career. She will be missed by her friends, family and millions of fans around the world.

Shortly after Winehouse’s body was found in her London apartment on Saturday, officials said the death of the singer who long struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol was being treated as “unexplained,” though foul play was not suspected. One of the most touching and personal tributes to Amy Winehouse came from actor Russell Brand, who also famously struggled with substance abuse before finding sobriety in 2003. Brand wrote a lengthy post on Saturday in which he touched on the dangers of addiction and sadness over an artist he called a “genius.” See a Timeline of Winehouse’s Troubles Over the Years . “When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call,” he wrote of the dreaded ring in the night with bad news. “The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they’ve had enough, that they’re ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it’s too late, she’s gone.”

Amy Winehouse, In Memoriam: ‘Troubled’ Wasn’t The Right Word

Iconic British singer was found dead in her home on Saturday. By James Montgomery Amy Winehouse Photo: Samir Hussein/ Getty Images “Troubled” was the adjective most commonly used to describe Amy Winehouse , the dynamic British belter who rose to international prominence thanks to her defiant 2006 single “Rehab” and the near-constant coverage of her sundry of personal problems (drug addiction, public punch-ups, onstage meltdowns, to name just a few). But in light of Winehouse’s death on Saturday (July 23), it’s clear that “troubled” doesn’t quite fit; perhaps “haunted” is a better choice. Because Winehouse was vexed in ways that were beyond troublesome; she was pursued by specters in life — addiction, love, even the paparazzi , against whom she obtained an anti-harassment injunction in 2009. And in death — her body was discovered Saturday in her home in London, under conditions which police are calling “unexplained” — it appears those specters finally caught up with her. There was a darkness to Winehouse, a quality that went beyond the tabloid pages or her low-cut dresses or her frequent binges on drugs and alcohol. It was most apparent in her voice, smoky and smoldering and, at times, savage, but always imperceptibly pained too, just like Billie Holiday or Janis Joplin or even Kurt Cobain. It’s no wonder then that like those talents, she found solace — and, ultimately, escape — in controlled substances. Anything to numb the pain. It remains to be seen whether Winehouse’s struggles will come to define her life; at minimum, they’ll forever be mentioned whenever folks talk about her legacy. Unlike other members of the so-called “27 Club” (of which she is now, sadly, a member), her recordings were relatively few — just two full-length albums and a handful of guest appearances — but it is perhaps a testament to their power that she’s already being mentioned in the same breath as Joplin or Cobain. Go beyond the eerily prescient sentiments of “Rehab,” to the slow-burning transcendence of “You Know I’m No Good,” “Back To Black” or “Tears Dry on Their Own,” and you’ll discover that Winehouse was a true artist … and a truly pained one. And, as is the case with all the true greats, Winehouse became an icon, almost overnight. Her tattooed arms and towering beehive made her an instant antidote to the Britneys and Christinas that had for too long dominated the pop-music landscape, and her constant run-ins and flare-ups (and lack of concern for her public image) made her a true rebel in every sense of the word. She seemingly was not of this era, a throwback to a time both more glamorous and gritty than we could possibly remember. And because of that, no matter where she went or what she did, we couldn’t take our eyes off her. Of course, it didn’t hurt matters that Back to Black sold like gangbusters, and her success paved the way for several retro-leaning stars, including Lily Allen, Duffy and, most notably, Adele , the Brit who currently dominates both sides of the Atlantic. And, in some ways, maybe that will be her endearing legacy: She was the one who changed it all, and nearly six years after the release of her breakout album, we’re still feeling the effects of that change. And yet, despite all of that, in the years following Back to Black ‘s release, Winehouse was never truly able to escape her ghosts. Her trips to rehab facilities were nearly as numerous as her arrests, and her live performances became increasingly erratic. In some ways, it seemed like she knew she’d never follow-up that album’s success, and maybe she didn’t want to. And perhaps it’s fitting that she never will. And, fittingly, in death, Winehouse has now cemented her status alongside all of the other sublimely talented, supremely pained stars gone too early. Carrying a weariness beyond her years, hers was a story that is sadly repeated all too often in music and one that, more often than not, usually ends the same way. Amy Winehouse Dead; Found in London Home

Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment in London today. Multiple sources confirm that the singer is the woman in this press release from the Metropolitan Police, which doesn’t specifically name her: “Police were called by Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 just before 16 hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman deceased.” “On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death.” “At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.” Amy Winehouse famously battled serious addiction to hard drugs and alcohol and was in and out of rehab several times throughout the years. Winehouse shot to fame with the 2006 album Back to Black , whose blend of jazz, soul, rock and classic pop won five Grammys and made her a star. Unfortunately, a turbulent marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil and overall self-destructive habits overshadowed her distinctive talent in the years since. Tabloids and the public became riveted by her erratic stage appearances, drunken fights, stints in hospital and rehab clinics, her performances increasingly rambling, stumbling train wrecks – and cause for concern. Just last month, Winehouse canceled her upcoming European tour after an awful performance in Serbia where she seemed completely out of it. Sadly, this story is almost shocking because it is not shocking. Her talent will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace. UPDATE : There were no signs of foul play in the death of Winehouse, Scotland Yard reports. It is still too early to determine cause of death. An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow.
