George Zimmerman Not Guilty: Celebrities React, Nearly Shut Down Twitter

Minutes after the controversial verdict was announced in the George Zimmerman trial, celebs and common folk alike took to Twitter to sound off. The case had been a lightning rod for racial and political tension since Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in February 2012, and it showed last night. A jury unanimously found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter on Saturday night in a Seminole County Court. Twitter exploded with reactions – some more sensible than others – all over the country as people tried to make sense of the complex and tragic case. Below are some of the most notable celebrity Tweets regarding the verdict … Chris Brown : Bullshit! Rihanna : This is the saddest news ever!!! #whatsjustice #pray4theMartinFamily Sophia Bush: The wind is more than knocked out of me… My heart aches for this boy’s family. Justice System? I don’t think so. #justicefortrayvon Donald Trump: Zimmerman is no angel but the lack of evidence and the concept of self-defense, especially in Florida law, gave the jury little other choice Roddy White: Fucking Zimmerman got away with murder today wow what kind of world do we live in … All them jurors should go home tonight and kill themselves for letting a grown man get away with killing a kid Michael Moore: Had a gun-toting Trayvon Martin stalked an unarmed George Zimmerman, and then shot him to death… DO I EVEN NEED TO COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE? Ellen Page: If u really believe racism isnt a massive problem, that the oppression of minorities is not a horrific and systemic issue. U R in denial. Gabrielle Union: How do we explain this to children? RT @lolaogunnaike: Apparently walking while black is a crime punishable by death. #TrayvonMartin Anthony Weiner: Keep Trayvon’s family in our prayers. Deeply unsatisfying verdict. Trial by jury is our only choice in a democracy. Trey Songz: Can’t even gather words to express my hurt for Trayvon’s family. Devastated John Legend: My heart hurts. Ja Rule: Wow so a human life don’t mean shit in America… they gave me 2 years for just having a gun smh #fuckthesystem Lena Dunham: No. My heart is with Sybrina Fulton, Rachel Jeantel, everyone who loved Trayvon and has been sent the message that his life didn’t matter. Cory Booker: We must mourn the unnecessary & unjust death of a child, but to honor him we must rededicate ourselves to the very ideals that were violated Questlove Jenkins: i want to rant but its like 1) i’m preaching to choir 2) this is about trayvon’s parents not my anger 3) wont we just forget on sunday morn? Lance Bass: That he didn’t get at least manslaughter blows my mind. Heart hurts for the Martin family. Lil Wayne: Tampa was amazing but kame bak to my bus and saw da news…ain’t shit change, and I may never get to see it do so. I pray 4my kids & yours. Mario Lopez: Hope people don’t misbehave after hearing this verdict… Pray for the Martin family. Josh Groban: Oh no. Seriously? Crap. Olivia Wilde: I feel sick. Andy Cohen: NO JUSTICE. Mandy Moore: My heart is heavy…for all who knew and loved #TrayvonMartin. His life mattered. This is shameful. Shaq: George Zimmerman not guilty can u believe that. No matter what, remain peaceful. Prayers for the Martin family … Only God knows what was on Zimmerman mind but the gun laws and stand your ground laws must change. This is not “only” about race. This is about laws that allow racist acts to go unpunished. We must change laws that promote injustice Nicki Minaj: And our taxes paid for that trial. We just paid to see a murderer walk free after killing an innocent unarmed little boy. #GodBlessAmerica Miley Cyrus : I feel sick. #RipTrayvonMartin Ann Coulter: Hallelujah! Tyson Gay Tests Positive for Banned Substance, Accepts Responsibility

So much for that anticipated Tyson Gay vs. Usain Bolt showdown at World Championshipts next month. Gay, the U.S. sprinter who won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the Nationals in June, has tested positive for a banned substances and dropped out of the upcoming global event in Moscow. “I don’t have a sabotage story. I don’t have any lies. I don’t have anything to say to make this seem like it was a mistake or it was on USADA’s hands, someone playing games,” said Gay in a statement. “I don’t have any of those stories. I basically put my trust in someone and I was let down.” Gay would not name the individual in question nor include any more specifics. But he was notified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency last week that an “A” sample came back positive from a May 16 out-of-competition test. He will now await the results of the follow-up “B” sample and then his punishment, assuming that test also comes back in the affirmative. Gay said he has spoken with his teammates and family members about the incident. “My career and my name have always been better than medals or records or anything like that. I’ve always wanted a clean name with anything. Unfortunately, I have to break this news, that I have a positive `A’ sample.” The track and field star finished fourth in the 100 at the London Olympics last month and was part of a USADA program titled “My Victory” a few years ago in which he testified on the official website: “I compete clean because I really believe in fairness, and besides that, my mom would kill me! Just being honest.”

Royal Baby Watch: Buzz Builds Outside Maternity Wing, But No Birth Yet

Royal Baby Watch 2013 is in full effect as Kate Middleton ‘s due date is upon us, but there’s no imminently arriving regal heir(ess) just yet. On the one hand, all the pomp and circumstance surrounding one 31-year-old about to give birth seems silly. On the other hand, why not celebrate it? It’s a rare celebrity gossip story that is 100 percent positive, as well as world history in the making, as Queen Elizabeth II will have a third living heir(ess). For the first time, the rules of ascension have changed so that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first-born will inherit the throne, regardless of gender. As for when the royal baby will arrive … it’s still anyone’s guess. As the world’s media gather on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, final preparations are underway on the scene – along with serious fun. And safety measures, of course. Friday morning, a “Specialist Search Team” inspected trash cans, plant pots and lampposts around the hospital in a royally thorough security sweep. “We are checking the surrounding area,” one search officer said. “It’s standard procedure when there is royalty due, and with what’s happening here.” “We have to take extra precaution.” In recent days, a hospital security guard has already taken up permanent residence on the steps of the main entrance to the hospital’s Lindo Wing. There, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to pose with their newborn baby soon after the birth, with other guards patrolling the area. Publicity stunts help add to the festive atmosphere, such as the arrival of three men dressed as giant babies wearing onesies and prosthetic masks. On the royal baby betting market , Alexandra and George are the current favorite names, while Diana is now at 10-1. Gender bets are fairly close. “It’s crazy,” says one staffer who witnessed media arrive two weeks ago. “But it’s fun coming to work and having a look and seeing everyone pose for pictures – they are a very popular couple, so it’s exciting for everyone!” What do you think William and Kate are having? Anna Benson on Arrest: Just Modeling Bulletproof Vest, My Husband is a "Pu$$y"

Oh, Anna Benson. You continue to crack us up. The former Baseball Wives star, who made headlines in 2011 for threatening cast members with a sex toy , was arrested this week for breaking into her ex-husband’s apartment and demanding cash. She was allegedly wielding a handgun and a metal baton at the time… while wearing a bulletproof vest. So, what does Benson have to say for herself? According to the official police report, Benson admitted she was in a foul mood when she went over to her ex’s apartment, angry over financial issues and other personal problems, such as his failure to pick up their children. Yes, she says she smashed his computer with a baton. But, no, she denies pulling out a handgun, even though police founded one at the scene, along with a knife and loaded ammo belt. As for the bulletproof vest? Here’s the best part: Anna says “it was a new model she was testing for a company” and that she “had to wear it for an extended time to get it to mold to her body.” Finally, authorities say Benson was shocked to be arrested and referred to her ex at the time as a “f-cking pus-y.” Stay classy, Anna Benson.

Paula Deen Fires Agent in Wake of N-Word Scandal

Another day, another ugly firing involving Paula Deen. This time she’s actually on the other side, however. The embattled celebrity chef has cut ties with her agent following the recent fallout from Deen using racial slurs , which she admitted in a lawsuit deposition. Deen’s rep, Elana Weiss, said in a statement that Deen ” has separated from ” New York agent Barry Weiner, who she thanks “for the tireless effort.” Thanks, but don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Paula, who’s been axed by Food Network, Walmart, Target, JCPenney, Kmart, Sears and Random House, wants Lisa Jackson’s lawsuit thrown out. Deen admits using racial slurs, but a long time ago – not in this discrimination lawsuit, which she says is BS, citing the Prop 8 ruling as cause for dismissal. It’s unclear why she canned her agent … but things can’t be going too much worse at the time being, so at worst it looks like a lateral move for her.
