Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes Although they claimed their split was “amicable,” the announcement of Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes’ breakup earlier this year was a surprise that sent the rumor mill a-turning with gossip. Mendes and Winslet have kept quiet about the reasons behind the split. They were married six years and have a son together. Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins After 23 years together, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins , who have two grown sons together, announced the end of their relationship last December. Sarandon told Britain’s Telegraph that the relationship had run its course. “You bring people into your life at certain times,” she said. “Maybe you have a relationship to have children, and you realize that it’s fulfilled after that point.” Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe This one goes back a ways, to 2006, but when we think of surprise splits, the news of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe ending their seemingly fairytale relationship is still a bummer.
