Keeping Up with the Kardashians Recap: The Surrogate Blues

This week’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians featured Kimberly coming to the decision to have a third child via surrogate. It was a decision that carried many mixed emotions. First off, how did she come to choose her surrogate? “Finding someone you really trust is really more difficult than you can imagine,” she said of the still-anonymous young woman. “It was maybe a year before we finalized [that].” Kim gushed that the woman entrusted with carrying her child – who is 100% Kim and Kanye’s, genetically – is just “such a nice person.” “Like, she’s so easy to talk to. This particular surrogate, she was the best fit for my family so we just had to go with it and try one embryo.” Additionally, Kim revealed that an implanted embryo from a fertility procedure before her pregnancy with son Saint, now 2, was lost: “One didn’t work with me. I tried it and I lost one.” Sister Khloe then opened up about this, too. “Before Kimberly got pregnant with Saint,” Khloe said, “she had an embryo implanted in her and that embryo did not take.” “So Kim is super nervous and anxious.” Understandably so, but it appears that this time frame has passed, as later, she told her family, “We’re having a baby. A girl.” “I definitely want to keep it private. I don’t want people to find my surrogate. I don’t want people following her, chasing her.” “I really trust my surrogate,” though, she said: “I’m not trying to control her every move.” Not all is well with her inner circle, however, as Kim revealed that her relationship with Stephanie Shepherd wasn’t always amicable. The duo remain close following Shepherd’s firing as Kim’s assistant this year, but it’s clear there is some bad blood lingering. As Kim went on to discuss the pair’s up and down history, she confessed to Kourtney in an off-hand remark, “I hated Steph.” Later in the episode, Kourtney finally confirmed her relationship to Younes Bendjima to Khloe, following a little bit of teasing. Kourtney explained her reluctance to talk about the romance on the show, even as her sister prodded her, on the show. She said, “I don’t feel like sitting and airing my business. Jana Kramer Shares Heart-Shattering Miscarriage News

Jana Kramer has opened up about something both very personal and very painful: She has suffered a miscarriage. The former One Tree Hill star and country artist shared a photo on Instagram Saturday of herself holding an ultrasound photo. She then explained the basis for the image and detailed all she had recently gone through. Out of respect for Kramer, we’ll just go ahead and share her message in its entirety, word-for-heartbreaking-word… 1-3 Today I am 1-3. I debated posting this for the exact reason why it’s a silent struggle. I don’t want I’m sorry or sympathy. I just don’t want to feel alone. And I know I’m not. This unfortunately isn’t my first loss. When I first found out I was pregnant I wanted to shout it from the rooftop but I know for reasons like this we have to wait. So because we don’t tell many, we have to suffer silently…and suffering silently was my thing in the past, but it’s not now. For the women out there who have miscarried in the past and need support and a place to grieve their little one lost or to those in the thick of it like me who are currently grieving and in pain, let us all be there for each other. You don’t need to feel alone and maybe that’s me talking to myself but if you need a place to share, I’m here for you…and all of us are (and guys too. As previously noted, the couple separated shortly afterward due to Caussin’s infidelity . He then entered rehab. Kramer said in September that she was forced to address the cheating and the separation after word leaked online, but that she and Caussin have remained dedicated to making their marriage work. “There are days where I’m like, ‘I’m done, I cannot do this anymore,'” she said this fall on Olivia Caridi’s podcast, elaborating: “And that was like a week ago. And then I’m like, ‘No. Keep fighting.’ I look at my baby girl and I’m like, ‘I’m going to keep fighting.’ “Because I see him trying too. So that’s why we never released a statement because I don’t want to ever be like, ‘Oh, we’re great and in love.’ “We’re working on it. We’re in the trenches. Larry Nassar: U.S. Team Doctor Who Molested Over 140 Girls Sentenced to 60 Years

Back in October, Olympic gymnast  McKayla Maroney revealed how she was molested by her team doctor , Larry Nassar. In November, teammate Aly Raisman added her name to the list of over 140 young women with their own stories of abuse in the guise of medical care by Dr. Nassar. On Thursday, Larry Nassar was sentenced — not for sex abuse, but for child pornography charges. Dr. Larry Nassar, who is 54 years old, has been in prison while awaiting sentencing. During that time, McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman revealed that Dr. Nassar had molested them , sharing their heartbreaking #MeToo stories with the world. Like so many others, these Olympic superstars describe Dr. Nassar, at the time their team doctor, administering “treatments” to them under the guise of medical practice. Olympic athletes (and others) often require legitimate therapies such as massage. Nassar, it is described, would use these as opportunities to molest the young girls who had been entrusted to his care. These monstrous deeds are evil to their core and unforgivable. But, though Nassar has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of sexual assault (a drop in the bucket compared to the number of accusers), it is not for these heinous crimes that he’s been sentenced. Larry Nassar was on trial for possession of child pornography. How much child pornography ? … asked virtually no one. He was found to have come into possession of 37,000 images that constitute child pornography. That almost certainly means that he was collecting photos of very real children who are victims or who were victims. Awful on its own, particularly if he then shared those images or in any way financially compensated the ones who gave them to him. Dr. Nassar was also accused of trying to destroy those images in order to avoid being held accountable for possessing child pornography. His sentence: 60 years in federal prison. Federal Judge Janet Neff explained (though she really didn’t need to) her reasoning behind the decision: That Larry Nassar “should never again have access to children.” We strongly agree. Possibly influencing the judge’s decision were impact statements from Nassar’s many victims, including McKayla Maroney. “Dr. Nassar was not a doctor, he in fact is, was, and forever shall be, a child molester, and a monster of a human being.” Agreed. “It all started when I was 13 or 14 years old, at one of my first National Team training camps, in Texas, and it didn’t end until I left the sport.” That is a nightmare. “It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was ‘treated.’ It happened in London before my team and I won the gold medal, and It happened before I won my Silver Medal.” Awful. “For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old. I had flown all day and night with the team to get to Tokyo.” This is not new information, and matches what she disclosed months ago. But that doesn’t mean that it was any easier for her to write. “He’d given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a ‘treatment.’ I thought I was going to die that night.” McKayla’s mother, Erin Maroney, also gave an impact statement about how this traumatic experience changed her daughter’s life. “This experience has been shattering to McKayla.” Of course it was. “She has transformed from a bubbly, positive, loving, world class athlete into a young adult who was deeply depressed, at times suicidal and essentially descended into an emotional abyss.” Abusing a child is a tragedy that can never be undone. They can heal, but they’ll never recover the formative years that they lost to trauma. “At times I was unsure whether I would open her bedroom door and find her dead.” We are eternally grateful that this monster’s abuses did not claim McKayla’s life. “Her father and I have been living this nightmare for years and until recently we felt hopeless. Nassar and those individuals and institutions that protected him almost snuffed out my daughter.” Michegan State University is accused of having helped to cover up Larry Nassar’s crimes. According to NYDailyNews , 3 children are dead and 15 more are injured after a gunman entered Aztec High School and began firing indiscriminately. FoxNews reports that the shoot has been killed, but it isn’t clear if he was shot by police or took his own life. All Farmington Municipal Schools are in lock-down while police investigate further. R.I.P. to the children who lost their lives and prayers up to those who are injured and recovering.

August Ames Cause of Death Revealed; Bullying Backlash to Blame?

Even in 2017, this story was positively surreal. Just two days after straight porn star August Ames made waves with her controversial and homophobic statements, she died by suicide at the age of 23 . It was mysterious, strange, and sad. And now we know exactly how she died. August Ames, whose real name was Mercedes Grabowski, was a straight porn actress whose homophobic tweet and ensuing defense of it made the rounds earlier this week. It all started with a tweet of hers: “Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @ EroticaXNews , you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know.” “BS is all I can say [shrug emoji] Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? # ladirect I do my homework for my body.” So, what she’s clearly saying here is that she believes that gay men, bi men, or a straight man who has had sex with a man for money is more likely to have secretly contracted an STI. Plenty of male porn actors have sex with people they wouldn’t choose to date – money is money after all. However, the porn industry tests its performers regularly – particularly those who film bareback, as most of them do. This is a complicated issue, because as August Ames said herself while defending herself on Twitter, it’s her body and her choice. Which is fine. Being a sex worker does not in any way negate your bodily autonomy or grand automatic consent or whatever. You know what’s not fine? Bigotry. Some sex workers refuse to do scenes with a man who’s had sex with a man. Some sex workers refuse to do scenes with black men. That’s their right. In both cases, though, it sure looks a lot like prejudice. And the assumption that a man who has done gay porn is more likely to be diseased than someone else, well, that reeks of some anti-gay beliefs. Her tweet was further complicated by the fact that she was “warning” some unknown other woman, as if she believed that all women shared her prejudiced belief. “don’t have anything to apologize for!” she tweeted. “Apologizing for taking extra steps to ensue that my body stays safe?” Obviously, she would not have faced this kind of backlash if she were just a performer who always had her costars wear condoms (though that can be a career-killer). It’s because he “precautions” were so targeted that she was controversial. “F–k you guys attacking me when none of my intentions were malicious. I f–king love the gay community!” Given her other tweets, people read that as “I love these disease-prone, untrustworthy folks!” “What the f–k ever! I CHOOSE who I have inside my body. No hate.” A lot of people wanted for her to understand that her views did not reflect reality and that her beliefs were mistaken. Though some of the responses to her tweets were extreme, the vast majority did not want her to die . Unfortunately, on Tuesday, December 5th, news broke that August Ames had died at the age of 23. 23 is young — young enough that she could have later grown and realized the error of her beliefs. She’s not the first to have some problematic opinions at 23?  For a little perspective, we’re talking about a woman who was probably too young to have told you where she was and what she was doing on 9/11. August died by suicide, but the circumstances and manner of her death were unknown. Until now. HollywoodLife reports that the The Ventura County Medical Examiner Media spokesperson shared August Ames’ cause of death : “Mercedes Grabowski died of asphyxia due to hanging. [The] manner is suicide.” That is the medical examiner’s determination. The toxicology report (those never get finished as quickly as they do on police procedurals) has yet to come back, and may be illuminating regarding Ames’ state of mind. We can only assume that the backlash played a role in her mental state before she took her own life. She’ll be missed by fans, fellow adult performers, and of course by her friends. Her husband, Kevin Moore, has asked for privacy as he mourns his wife. Whatever anyone may think of August Ames’ statements, this is a tragedy. A young woman lost her life. Many people lost a friend and loved one. And the important discussion about STIs, homophobia, and sex workers? That will wait for another time.

Chris Lopez: Is He Fighting Kailyn Lowry For Custody of Lux?!

When Kailyn Lowry welcomed her third child back in August, many wondered if baby daddy Chris Lopez would play any role at all in the boy’s life. Thus far, it seems the skeptics were right, and Lopez has largely been an absentee dad. Now, however, it looks like he’s planning to make up for lost time–and that could be bad news for Kailyn. A cryptic tweet posted by Lopez earlier this week has many fans wondering if the Delaware State University student is planning to fight his ex for custody of little Lux. Lopez wrote simply, “The wait is almost over.” Obviously, the tweet doesn’t contain much in the way of new information, but many Teen Mom 2 fans believe Lopez is hinting that he’ll soon be waging a custody war against Kailyn. It would be something of a surprise move, as Lopez has apparently shown little interest in being a part of his son’s life in the months since Lux entered the world. During the Teen Mom 2 reunion show filmed back in October, Kailyn revealed that she and Chris hadn’t been in contact with one another for several weeks. “Chris and I haven’t seen each other in a month so he hasn’t seen the baby, either,” Kailyn told host Dr. Drew Pinksy. “It’s kind of a hard pill to swallow,” she added. Lowry went on to describe her relationship with Lopez in a decidedly unflattering fashion: “You know, he cheated on me my whole pregnancy. The things I went through… All the way leading up to having him was something that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy,” she told Pinsky. “You know, it was like, ‘Oh, it’ll get better, it’ll get better’ and then it never got better. There’s no contact at all.”  Recently, Chris has stooped to taking shots at Kailyn on social media, such as the photo below which shows him burning a copy of her latest memoir. Sadly, Lowry’s description of Lopez as a deadbeat dad doesn’t come as much of a surprise. During her pregnancy, Lopez reportedly informed Kailyn that he would fulfill his financial obligations to her, but had no interest in serving as a father figure in Lux’s life. It’s unclear when exactly Lopez changed his mind, but it’s clear that in Kailyn’s eyes, the decision came too late. Just last week, Kailyn changed Lux’s last name from Lopez to Lowry, seemingly to spite Chris. Needless to say, it doesn’t look as though Kail and Chris will be able to resolve their issues amicably. Tarek and Christina El Moussa Mourn Death of Flip or Flop Contractor

Both Tarek El Moussa and Christina El Moussa have taken to social media in mourning of a loved one. The same loved one, it turns out.  On Friday, Frank Miller lost his battle with laryngeal cancer, passing away peacefully at an Orange County hospital in California. The long-time contractor had worked closely with Tarek and Christina for years on Flip or Flop, the home renovation series that has been such a huge hit for HGTV. In tribute to their late friend, the former couple shared memories of Frank and bid him farewell over the weekend. “Good bye My dear friend Frank,” Tarek wrote, adding: “I have always looked up to you and have respected you as a brother. You have touched not only myself and my family but thousands and thousands around the world. “You have impacted so many lives with the fight inside your heart and soul… “I will NEVER forget you and I hope to one day be as strong as you.” “Now…don’t slack!” Tarek concluded. “I assume you are already working on remodeling heaven! Miss you buddy.” Christina also sent a few thoughts Miller’s way. “Frank since the day I met you I had the utmost respect for you,” she wrote. Continued the popular HGTV personality: “Hardworking and REAL. Always a pleasure to be around and always made me laugh. You fought your hardest!! You are so admired and respected by all who know you. “God has a special place for you in Heaven. Love you and miss you.” Tarek and Christina split up about a year ago. They recently acknowledged their divorce and how far they’ve come in separate social media posts . In May, the co-stars went public went the tale of Frank’s cancer diagnosis. A GoFundMe account was sent up by Miller’s co-worker, Alison Diaz, that ended up raising over $31,000 to help Frank cover his medical treatments. “As some of you know… he’s been fighting multiple cancers for many years, even while filming our show, and he’s still putting up the fight of his life,” Tarek wrote on Instagram at the time. “The doctors told him a year ago he would not make it past 6 months, he’s proving them wrong, this man is a beast.” Tarek, of course, has overcome two different cancer diagnoses himself.
