Adele Says Writing 21 ‘Broke My Heart’

British singer’s second album hit stores in the U.S. on Tuesday. By James Montgomery Adele Photo: MTV News Adele’s jaw-dropping sophomore album, 21, officially hit stores in the States on Tuesday (February 22), having already topped the charts in her native U.K. (and most of Europe too). And while it might seem odd for her to be so excited about another release — especially since 21 has been out for more than a month worldwide — the 22-year-old songstress isn’t hiding the fact that she’s anxiously awaiting her first-week numbers here in the U.S. To hear her tell it, she never thought she’d get the opportunity to sell albums here at all. “Oh, it’s magical being here. I didn’t think I’d ever release a record here,” she laughed. “It’s a big deal in England. There’s a massive thing, like, ‘Did you crack America?!?’ The biggest acts in England, no one has any idea who they are here. … I’m not a radio artist here, I’m not on pop stations really, I have these songs that go everywhere. So it really is people are proper behind me here, because I sell records; I don’t sell singles. And that doesn’t happen anywhere.” And her (presumed) Stateside triumph would be even sweeter considering, during the promotional run for her last album, the Grammy-winning 19, she steeped herself in all things American. And a lot of those influences — country, R&B, bluegrass, jazz, plus a few you might not suspect — are all readily apparent on 21. “I was a proper sponge when I did my big bulk of American touring. I was on a tour bus, so I was literally driving across America; I wasn’t getting on planes or anything like that. I’d be in Baltimore and hear this amazing, crazy hip-hop, and then be in Atlanta, and then in Texas, Nashville and end up in California. [And] I loved it,” she said. “And that rubbed off on this record. I don’t think I’ve made an Americana-sounding record, but certainly the delivery of a lot of the blues and country and rockabilly artists, and hip-hop. Like, I’m totally fascinated with the way Kanye and Nas and Mos Def manipulate a word to make it rhyme and to make it really fascinating when it’s actually pretty mundane. Analyzing normal things, but making them electric, that’s definitely rubbed off on my delivery and my writing, the way I connect with my songs and channel them.” And while she’s channeled her love of American music into her new album (and a mysterious hip-hop collaboration that she can’t mention “just in case it doesn’t happen”), what resonates most with fans on both sides of the Atlantic is the unflinching honesty she displays throughout. Songs like “Rolling in the Deep,” “Set Fire to the Rain” and the shattering “Someone Like You” are very much about the death of her first, as she put it, “real relationship,” and that heartbreak not only provides the backbone to the album, but has connected with her fans in a way even she couldn’t have predicted. “It broke my heart when I wrote this record, so the fact that people are taking it to their hearts is like the best way to recover. ‘Cause I’m still not fully recovered. It’s going to take me 10 years to recover, I think, from the way I feel about my last relationship,” she said. “It was the biggest deal in my entire life to date. … He made me totally hungry. … He was older, he was successful in his own right, whereas my boyfriends before were my age and not really doing much. And he got me interested in film and literature and food and wine and traveling and politics and history, and those were things I was never, ever interested in. I was interested in going clubbing and getting drunk.” And so if (or, more likely, when) 21 tops the Billboard albums chart, Adele will celebrate in her own way. She’s gone through the heartbreak, she’s grown up, and she carries with her a truly tremendous new album. Though someone will probably have to tell her when her album is #1. Even though she’s anxiously waiting for those first-week numbers, she’s actually stopped paying attention. “I disconnected my Internet,” she laughed. “I have no idea what’s going on!” Will you be picking up Adele’s latest? Michael Lohan to Billy Ray Cyrus: I Feel Ya!

Michael Lohan has just reached out to fellow embattled celeb dad Billy Ray Cyrus in an open letter. We have no earthly idea why, so don’t even ask. Billy Ray raised eyebrows earlier this week when he told GQ that Satan and daughter Miley’s star-making gig on Hannah Montana ruined his family . He says he’s desperate to get his famous offspring “sheltered from the storm.” Those words clearly hit close to home for the father of Lindsay Lohan. If anyone knows what it’s like to help his little girl follow her dreams into show business and explode into a bigger star anyone could’ve imagined, it’s MiLo. If anyone also knows what it’s like to see that little girl’s innocence stripped away, and for her to become embroiled in one scandal after another, it’s MiLo. If anyone knows what it’s like to become estranged while in prison, then resort to ridiculous stunts like booking her on Letterman without her consent … Okay, Billy Ray didn’t do that. But there are some similarities, people! They’re spelled out in Michael’s open letter to the Cyrus patriarch … Billy Ray, Oh My God! Am I seeing and reliving almost the same exact situations, scrutiny, pain and willingness to sacrifice yourself, for the sake of your family? As hard and frustrating as it is, believe me when I say, it’s a road worth traveled. Even if it may have its’ bumps and grinds along the way. As I was raised, there is nothing like the love a man has for his family nor is there any length he will go to save or protect them. The hardest part is, experiencing the pain that comes from the resistance of the very one(s) you are trying to save. The one(s) you love so much, and are willing to die for, are too blinded by the “bright light” and people who use our loved one(s) while everyone thinks you are supposed to sit back and pretend it goes unseen. As I don’t see you as any one of the three monkeys with their hands over their ears, eyes and mouth. I, nor you, are the type of men who will sit back and do or say nothing at the risk of being persecuted. When I look at what you are going through, I am forced to see myself. Two men who know what divorce and alienation, have done to our families. Why I ask, if it so hard for our wives, children and even the public, to see that all we are trying to do, is to be there for our family and try to make things right? Isn’t it clear that the answer is so easy but the people who don’t matter, make it so hard? While all we want is our family and normal lives back, others forsake that for so much more. Why is it that people don’t put themselves in or shoes? And say to themselves, “How would I feel if that was happening to me?” The sad part is, they don’t and they probably never will. But that doesn’t mean that men like you and I should ever give up. While we can’t change the world, our example just might touch a few, and maybe even the one(s) we seek to save. To that end, I want to say, that I know what you are going through, I feel your pain and frustration, and I also admire your strength, dedication and love, for your family in the name of God. Best and God Bless, Michael Lohan

‘American Idol’ Hollywood Week Ends With A Ticket To Vegas

Clint Jun Gamboa, Jacee Badeaux, John Wayne Schulz and Julie Zorrilla among the 50 moving on. By Gil Kaufman Contestants audition on “American Idol” Thursday Photo: FOX And then there were 50. If you thought Wednesday night’s “American Idol” was harsh, the final night of Hollywood Week really brought down the hammer. Unlike the previous night, when the show dithered away with group dynamics, Thursday night’s (February 17) show jumped right into it, presenting what host Ryan Seacrest promised was one of the most talented group of Hollywood finalists ever assembled. And, for once, he wasn’t just blowing smoke, as some of season 10’s standout singers brought it and punched their ticket to next week’s Vegas round. Haley Reinhart, 20, barely made it through the previous round after forgetting her lyrics, but the 20-year-old Wheeling, Illinois, student was back on track Thursday night, growling out a gritty and bombastic “God Bless the Child.” Though we’d barely met Tennessee’s 24-year old Ashton Jones before — she was in Ashley Sullivan’s group the night before — she killed it with a soulful “Idol” favorite “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” Confident 15-year-old Thia Megia got no shine Wednesday, but when she got back in the spotlight, she did it again, showing some supple vocal beauty with a cool “What a Wonderful World.” The girls definitely brought it, so it was up to the boys to prove they had it too. One of the rising stars, karaoke host Clint Jun Gamboa, peeled the paint off the walls with his dynamic cover of Ray Charles’ “Georgia,” a feat almost equaled on the same tune by sultry 22-year-old Tennessee office manager Kendra Chantelle, who traded bombast for buttery softness. Chris Medina went out of the box with an acoustic ramble through Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative,” which was also picked by onetime groupmate Carson Higgins. The blond beach bum played it straight with the band, doing a high-energy, slightly spastic soul shout, while Medina did a Dave Matthews-like folk strum take that didn’t go over as well. Able to play their instruments for the first time, a number of the contestants took the opportunity, including Los Angeles student Julie Zorrilla, getting jazzy at the keyboard on Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song.” Murfreesboro, Tennessee, emo kid Colton Dixon, who came on strong during group night, emoted his way through a dramatic version of Daughtry’s “What About Now,” while 16-year-old Florida student Brett Loewenstern strapped on his acoustic for a fragile stroll through Brandi Carlile’s “The Story.” Melodica-blowing soul man Casey Abrams keeps surprising, and he continued his streak by being the first “Idol” contestant to bust out a stand-up bass for a finger-snapping jazzbo dig at Ray Charles’ “Georgia on my Mind” that earned a standing ovation. Already without her ex-boyfriend by her side, Chelsee Oaks seemed distraught when former groupmate Jacqueline Dunford was forced to bow out of the competition due to illness. The Nashville waitress pulled it together and dug down deep for an emotional “Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson, but her nerves were evident. After producers dropped the age limit to 15, a number of teens have proven their worth, none more than 15-year-old Lauren Alaina, whose big personality and charming smile have worked their magic on the judges. The savvy high-schooler kept in judge Steven Tyler’s good graces by reprising her cover of his band’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” putting a cocktail-lounge spin on the bombastic ballad, complete with a piled-on-top curly hairstyle. We just met Jacob Lusk the night before, and the Bobby McFerrin-like master of vocal tics and tricks did his thing again with a whisper-to-a-scream gospel throwdown on “God Bless the Child.” It’s been awhile since we saw real-life cowboy John Wayne Schulz , but his strummy aw-shucks cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” mesmerized the crowd and inspired judge Jennifer Lopez to harmonize along. The unpredictable Sullivan proved to be the bundle of nerves she’s promised, falling apart singing Michael Bubl

Kanye West May Join Rihanna At NBA All-Star Halftime Show

Yeezy is expected to make a surprise appearance at Sunday’s game. By Gil Kaufman Kanye West Photo: Ben Hider/Getty Images The talent roster at this weekend’s NBA All-Star Game is starting to get out of control. The Deadspin sports blog cited an unnamed “in-the-know-tipster” on Wednesday in reporting that Kanye West will “make a surprise appearance during Rihanna’s halftime show at the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles on Sunday.” It’s possible the two will perform the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy track “All of the Lights,” which features Rihanna singing alongside ‘Ye, Elton John, Fergie, Alicia Keys and more. It would make sense since that song is tipped to be the next single from West’s album and a music video is reportedly in the works. It’s not like Yeezy hasn’t expressed his love for the game before, including just recently, when he appeared in the Robert Rodriguez-directed short film promoting Kobe Bryant’s new line of Nike shoes. A representative for West had no comment when reached by MTV News to confirm the rumor, and reps for Rihanna and the NBA had not returned calls for comment at press time. In addition to Rihanna, Lenny Kravitz has been tapped to play at the game, performing before the tip-off during player introductions. Josh Groban will sing the national anthem and Melanie Fiona will do the honors on the Canadian anthem, while the “What’s My Name?” singer will provide the entertainment during the half. On Saturday, during the All-Star Saturday Night show, Keri Hilson will sing the national anthem and Cee Lo Green will serve up some “Forget You” during the three-point shooting contest. The Sprite Slam Dunk contest will be preceded by Far East Movement, who’ll perform their new single, “Rocketeer.” Friday night’s entertainment will be provided by Cali Swag District, who will “Teach Me How to Dougie” during the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and Youth Jam, which, like all of the All-Star events , will be shown on TNT. The NBA All-Star Game airs Sunday at 7 p.m. ET on TNT. Related Artists Kanye West Rihanna

Rebecca Romijn Stamos Guy from My Secret Identity’s Last Name Legs of the Day

I have no idea why I am posting this shit. Maybe it’s to address what a slut she is you know having married so many dudes. Maybe it’s cuz we all used to find her hot. Maybe it’s my inner muslim hot and bothered by the little skin she’s showing, inspiring me to rape and beat her senseless like she was a CBS reporter, maybe that was too soon to make a joke about as the CBS reporter still has stitches in her vagina holding her together after her Egypt incident I have little sympathy for, only because throwing yourself amongst crazed Arabs is kinda stupid, I mean look what they did to the Twin Towers…there’s no doubt they’d do it to a vagina if it was wearing a skirt and they knew they’d get away with it…not that that has anything to do with “Rebecca Rominjn Stamos Guy From My Secret Idenity’s Last Name”….but I feel like maybe it does…cuz pics like this only turn on her obsessed virgin loser fans who can’t get over their love for her…and sexually repressed muslims…Don’t drive your plane into my house please, I’m just stating the obvious. Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian Have Gone Too Far

Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian has been tweeting each other for a while. It started when Bieber said that he want to date mature woman , and Kim Kardashian is the girl of his dream. The pair then met at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, speaking and teasing each other, and then take a photos together. Justin Bieber later updated his twitter with their photo and said that ” she is my girlfriend “. In the other hand, Kim also gave a warm respond to Bieber, declared her love for the singer on that social networking site, ” I officially have Bieber Fever!!, ” said Kim. These so-called relationship between these two makes Justin Bieber’s fans angry, threatened to kill Kim Kardshian if she ever touch Bieber. This is silly of course, considering that most of Bieber fans are child/teenage in the age of 10-14. On last Sunday, June 13, they’ve been spotted taking a splash together in the beach of Bahama. Justin Bieber (16) and Kim Kardashian (29) are both staying at The Cove Resort at the luxurious Atlantis on Paradise Island. The meet-up comes after Justin spent the previous night performing a concert at The Cove Resort following a long day of waterfront fun and basketball. Meanwhile, Kim spent her Saturday lounging poolside with her gal pals in Miami following a big bachelorette party the previous day, which was also attended by Christina Aguilera . Later, they did a photoshoot session together on the beach, Kardashian was spotted splashing Bieber with water, while visitors were enjoying their intimate activity. They were also cutely holding each other hands. Bieber’s worshiper need no worry, because they were just working together and seem just like to fooling around with everyone (at least for Kim). But maybe after the “death-threats” to Kim, this joke has gone too far? Getting Bieber’s fans even more jealous, earlier that day, Kardashian boasted that she had a chance to mess up Bieber’s signature hair. With message read ” My dream! I messed up @JustinBieber ‘s hair!!!!! “, the 29-year-old socialite posted a photo showing her fiddling with Bieber’s hair.

Justin Bieber Gets Billboard Boost After ‘Never Say Never’ Opening

While Now 37 takes #1 spot, Bieber’s album sales jump 145 percent following his big-screen debut. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images There will be a new title at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart next week, but the biggest news is the huge sales bump Justin Bieber experienced thanks to the opening of his “Never Say Never” movie . While the Now 37 compilation (with songs by Eminem, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Pink and Willow Smith) will snag the pole position thanks to sales of 151,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Bieber’s 3-D big-screen debut gave a serious boost to his record sales. My World 2.0 is up 145 percent over the previous week, jumping 14 spots to #3 on sales of 48,000, while My Worlds Acoustic leaps 37 spots to #10 as sales zoomed up by 240 percent to 35,000. Even the 16-year-old singer’s 2009 debut EP, My World, benefited, moving 61 spots to #39 as sales were up 162 percent to 14,000. Next week’s charts will likely reflect the post-Grammy bump that traditionally follows the awards show, but even after going home empty-handed following a performance with Bob Dylan on the broadcast, England’s Mumford & Sons continue their unlikely chart ride. They zoom nine spots to #2 with Sigh No More, which sold 49,000 copies as sales picked up by nearly 100 percent over the previous week. The rest of the top 10: Nicki Minaj , Pink Friday (#4, 47,000), Pink , Greatest Hits … So Far!!! (#5, 41,000), Bruno Mars , Doo-Wops & Hooligans (#6, 39,000), Eminem , Recovery (#7, 38,000), Rihanna , Loud (#8, 37,000) and Jason Aldean , My Kinda Party (#9, 35,000). Maybe it was their Super Bowl halftime show, but after weeks of slipping down the charts, the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The Beginning moves six places to #14 (31,000, up 61 percent) while their two-year-old The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) jumps 21 spots to #20 as sales picked up by 75 percent to 20,000. It was all about Lady Gaga on the iTunes singles chart, as her queer anthem “Born This Way” went straight to #1. Gaga pushes Katy Perry ‘s “Firework” down a spot, where it’s followed by Pink ‘s “F—in’ Perfect,” the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit),” Wiz Khalifa ‘s “Black and Yellow” and Jay Sean ‘s “Hit the Lights.” Rounding out the list are Cee Lo Green ‘s “Forget You” at #7, then Colbie Caillat ‘s “I Do,” Rihanna ‘s “S&M” and Avril Lavigne ‘s “What the Hell.” The Mumfords rule the iTunes albums chart, followed by Pink, Bieber’s Never Say Never – The Remixes, his acoustic album, the Beatles ‘ LOVE soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas show, Rihanna, Eminem, Grammy performers the Avett Brothers ‘ I and Love and You, Bieber’s My World 2.0 and the Pretty Reckless ‘ Light Me Up. Look for the Grammy bump next week, as well as the chart debut of Bieber’s remix album and the new Bright Eyes effort, The People’s Key.
