Dan Kay, Former Survivor Contestant, Dies at 40

Very sad news today out of the reality television world: Dan Kay, a contestant on Survivor: Gabon back in the fall of 2008, died suddently on December 31.  He was 40 years old. The sad news has gone public as a result of a newly-printed obituary from the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory. Kay worked as a lawyer; hailed from Brookline, New Hampshire; and was born in 1976. He earned a bachelor’s degree from UMass-Amherst and also law degree from Syracuse University. The cause of death is unknown at this time, as the obituary says only that he “died unexpectedly” on the final day of 2016. It notes that Kay’s “desire to be challenged and his quest for adventure lead to his participation on the reality show, Survivor.” Kay was the eighth person voted out of Survivor: Gabon. During his run on the beloved CBS reality show, he described himself as an “athletic kid growing up,” and his obituary lists his hobbies as “running, skiing, listening to music, and attending Crossway Christian Church.” In response to this tragic turn of events, Survivor host Jeff Probst Tweeted the following statement: “I just heard the very sad news about the sudden loss of Dan Kay of Survivor: Gabon. The Survivor family sends our love to Dan’s family.” After he was voted out, Kay told Andy Dehnart  of Reality Blurred that it would be “a little bit shallow if I said [Survivor] changed my life,” but added: “I think it made me appreciate the simplicity of life and what you need.”” Kay is the fourth Survivor cast member to pass away, following the deaths of Jenn Lyon, B.B. Anderson, and Caleb Bankston. He is survived by his two young children, Reese Elizabeth and Jackson “Jax” Russell-Reid, as well as his girlfriend, Jennifer DePietro, mother, Jean-Ann, and sister, Andrea . “More than anything, Dan cherished the time he spent with his two young children, Reese Elizabeth Kay and Jackson “Jax” Russell-Reid Kay,” the obituary reads. “Those who knew Dan best, would agree he was a child at heart.” A memorial will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, New Hampshire. The obituary says that “memorial donations may be made to Crossway Christian Church, 503 Main Dunstable Rd., Nashua, NH 03062, or a charity of your choice.” Here is a video of Dan introducing himself to Survivor viewers prior to taking part in Survivor: Gabon… Dan Kay Introduces Himself to Survivor Fans May he rest in peace.

Billie Lourd Breaks Silence, Thanks Fans for Well Wishes

Billie Lourd has spoken out for the first time since the death of her mother. And her grandmother. The child of Carrie Fisher, Lourd stunningly and tragically lost both loved ones over the course of 24 hours last week; first when Fisher passed away from a heart attack and then when  Reynolds died from a stroke . It was a shocking and heartbreaking turn of events. Fans have been sending their condolences to Lourd ever since, wishing all the best to the Scream Queens 2 star in this impossibly challenging time period. And now Lourd has acknowledges their messages. “Receiving all of your prayers and kind words over the past week has given me strength during a time I thought strength could not exist,” Lourd wrote on Instagram. She added: “There are no words to express how much I will miss my Abadaba and my own and only Momby. Your love and support means the world to me.” As you can see below, Lourd included a photo of herself as a child with the post. It also features younger versions of Fisher and Reynolds: At 60 years old, Fisher, died unexpectedly on December 27, four days after suffering a heart attack on board an airplane. Reynolds, her 84-year-old mother, proceeded to pass away the next day after suffering a reported stroke. According to Reynolds’ son, the veteran actress said she wanted to be “with Carrie” just prior to passing away. The 24-year-old Lourd, whose father is Hollywood agent Bryan Lourd, appeared opposite her mother in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She is not a household name, but all of Hollywood and everyone on Twitter has had Lourd in their thoughts and prayers in the days since these terrible events. View Slideshow: Billie Lourd Photos: Who is Carrie Fisher’s Daughter? On December 12, Lourd appeared opposite Seth Meyers and talked about life as the daughter of an icon. She told the talk show that that Fisher and Reynolds originally attempted to dissuade Billie from pursuing acting, yet were overwhelmingly proud of her accomplishments after she decided to take this path. The young star even said at the time that Reynolds offered a suggestion for how Lourd should be referred to in Hollywood. “She gets really upset when I get called ‘Carrie Fisher’s daughter,’” Lourd told Meyers. “She wants people to call me ‘Debbie Reynolds’ granddaughter.’ It’s very offensive to her. She does not like to be cut out — not at all.” Great stuff. Also: sad, sad, sad stuff. Over the past week or so, a great number of of Lourd’s Scream Queens costars have reached out via social media to send their support. Here’s a look at what celebrities have said in the wake of Fisher’s death: View Slideshow: Carrie Fisher: Mourned, Honored by Hollywood As previously reported, Fisher and Reynolds will be mourned at a joint funeral later this week. We continue to send our condolences to Lourd and everyone else so closely touched by these tragic passings.

Ariana Grande Rails Against Mac Miller Fan Who Objectified, Degraded Her

Ariana Grande took to Twitter Tuesday to speak out against female objectification following a run-in with a fan of boyfriend Mac Miller. The pop star felt compelled to document her experience to her 43 million followers after feeling disrespected and degraded by the guy. What did he say exactly? You’ll be surprised … According to the singer, she and her rapper beau were out picking up some food when a young fan of his excitedly approached the couple. “He was loud and excited and by the time M was seated in the driver’s seat, he was literally almost in the car with us,” Grande recalls. “I thought all of this was cute and exciting,” Ari said , until he said: “‘Ariana is sexy as hell man. I see you, I see you hitting that!!!'” That made Grande feel like a sex object and left her reeling. “Hitting that? The f**k??” she continued. “This may not seem like a big deal to some of you but I felt sick and objectified. I was also sitting right there when he said it,” she said. Adding that she “felt really quiet and hurt,” Grande said that these “kinds of moments [contribute] to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy.” “I am not a piece of meat that a man gets to utilize for his pleasure,” she wrote, clarifying that her beef is most certainly not with Miller.  “I’m an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect,” she says of her love and musical collaborator. Nevertheless, it “hurts my heart that so many young people are so comfortable” when it comes to objectifying women “with such ease.” “We need to talk about these moments openly because they are harmful and they live on inside of us as shame,” the pop star concluded. “We need to share and be vocal when something makes up feel uncomfortable because if we don’t, it will just continue,” Ariana said. “We are not objects or prizes. We are QUEENS.” Not surprisingly, this was retweeted and liked tens of thousands of times within hours of the 23-year-old posting her missive to Twitter. In keeping with her outspoken nature, this is not the first time Grande has slammed sexist double standards toward her or other women. In Billboard’s May cover story, she ripped a UK radio station for lavishing praise on Justin Bieber and Zayn Malik for shirtless photos. The issue was not with those two male stars, she says, but that the same source was simultaneously shaming Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian. “If you’re going to rave about how sexy a male artist looks with his shirt off,” Ariana argued, then don’t turn around and slut-shame females. “If a woman decides to get in her panties or show her boobies for a photo shoot, she needs to be treated with the same awe and admiration.” We could not agree more at The Hollywood Gossip. In November of last year, she also lambasted two L.A. DJs for a sexist query about whether she’d choose her phone over using makeup. Grande snapped at the pair with this retort: “Is this what you really think girls have trouble choosing between? Is this men assuming that’s what girls would have to choose between?” She does not mince words, and we love it. Following her tweet about the incident with Miller Tuesday night, Grande responded to fan questions about whether she should talk. Basically, a common point fans made was that perhaps, given how overtly she uses her sexuality to sell music, she’s being “a tad hypocritical.” Not that case, Grande says, and here’s why: “That’s the thing … women expressing their sexuality is often mistaken for ‘hi come disrespect me!!!!’ .. & that’s just not the case.” “Women (and men) can express themselves however they’d like !!! even loving sex!! this is not an invitation to be disrespected.” Your final score here: Ariana 1, Haters 0. Fantasia And Kendall Taylor Get Married — Again

In July 2015, singer Fantasia Barrino tied the knot to Kendall Taylor in North Carolina. After having her love life play out in a tumultuous way in public, to say that Barrino was happy to have found her Mr. Right would be an understatement. As she put it, she was “on cloud 9” on that special day. She had this to say about finding her perfect match last year: “How Happy I am.. This Man.. God made him just for Me and me Just For Him,” she wrote. “This Man.. Covers and prays for me and my children EVERY morning.. This Man.. Loves My Father in Heaven and his name is God.. This Man allows me to just be a woman.. No more Hurt because King Kendall will never let that happen.. I’m off to just kiss, Hug and play in some water with This Man..” [ madamenoire ] Christmas At Disney Isn’t Just For Kids When I was invited to Orlando to “unwrap the magic” of Walt Disney World at Christmas time I didn’t know what to expect. I’d only been to Disney World once when I was 12 years old and my biggest memory of the vacation was miraculously surviving the Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios. I didn’t want to test my luck again. But as soon as I stepped foot in the Magic Kingdom it was like I was a kid again. Everywhere I looked there were Christmas lights, trees, ornaments, and families of people who were indeed having the happiest time of their lives.
