Bruce Springsteen Releases Official Music Video for "We Take Care Of Our Own"

Bruce Springsteen has released the official music video for “We Take Care Of Our Own,” and it’s not exactly the most upbeat four minutes in the history of the business. As posted below, the video is shot in black and white and features no member of the E Street Band. Instead, we simply see shots of The Boss playing in an abandoned house, which are toggled between images of everyday Americans walking around, sullen, as the lyrics flash on screen. However… Springsteen then asks “where’s the promise from sea to sea” and colorful, happier images crop up, such as a young boy catching a baseball. Watch below and mark down March 6 on your calendar. That’s when the album “Wrecking Ball” comes out. Bruce Springsteen – We Take Care Of Our Own (Official Music Video)

‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack: Pre-Game With An Expert Playlist

Hobnobbing helps you get to know the album’s featured artists through their best works. By Amy Wilkinson Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate On Monday, Taylor Swift will enter the MTV arena to debut the music video for her Civil Wars collaboration, “Safe and Sound,” which appears on the “Hunger Games” soundtrack. And following the premiere, the country cutie will stick around MTV.com for an exclusive 30-minute interview about the lead single, her upcoming projects and more. So for Peeta’s sake, tune in, OK? But as any “Hunger Games” fan can attest, Swift isn’t the only artist to be reaped for the T-Bone Burnett-produced companion album (out March 20). Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Neko Case and Miranda Lambert are all reportedly contributing to the effort. So to prepare for what’s sure to be an epic soundtrack, we’ve asked several music experts to recommend top tunes from each performer—a pre-Games playlist, if you will. So put down your bow and arrow, grab your earbuds and settle in with these hand-picked selections: The Decemberists “No shortage of truly great tunes (with truly epic titles) from the Pacific Northwest’s leading purveyors of erudite indie. From the hard-charging horns of ‘Sixteen Military Wives’ (off 2005’s Picaresque ) to the 12-string shimmy of ‘Down by the Water’ (from last year’s The King Is Dead ) — with proggy dalliances like ‘You’ll Not Feel the Drowning’ and ‘The Prettiest Whistles Won’t Wrestle the Thistles Undone’ in between — the ‘rists have never met a genre they wouldn’t tackle … or a song title they couldn’t stretch to infinity. — James Montgomery, Rock Writer, MTV News “The Decemberists are often described as ‘indie-folk’ or ‘chamber pop,’ but they are constantly shifting into new genres and playing with foreign sounds. ‘Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect’ is from their first album and doesn’t have the same epic quality that their later albums (most of which are sprawling mini-operas), but it does capture frontman Colin Meloy’s unending melancholy and slightly fanciful worldview. It’s catchy as hell too.” — Kyle Anderson, Staff Writer, Entertainment Weekly “Asking me to choose a favorite Decemberists song is like asking me to choose a favorite pair of shoes — I have so many! It’s almost impossible! But I’ll do it. The apotheosis of the entire Decemberists catalogue, for me, is ‘Shanty for the Arethusa’ off of their 2003 album Her Majesty the Decemberists . This isn’t a song. It’s a sensory odyssey. Dude, the way they bring to life the creaking of the rotten hull of an olde-timey ship feels so real that I can almost feel myself getting scurvy.” — Tamar Anitai, Managing Editor, MTV Buzzworthy Arcade Fire “They broke through with Funeral, thanks in no small part to anthemic, wide-screen melodramas like ‘Wake Up’ and ‘Rebellion (Lies)’ — songs seemingly created for stadium-uniting sing-alongs — backtracked on that all-encompassing stance with insular, world-weary Neon Bible tracks like ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘My Body is a Cage,’ and, finally, with The Suburbs, ‘Month of May’ and ‘We Used to Wait,’ just decided to ditch all the subtlety and subterfuge and just become Springsteen disciples. Hey, whatever works.” — Montgomery “Canada’s finest indie exports move at only two speeds: Epic and super-epic. ‘No Cars Go’ falls in the latter category, beginning with a simple hum-and-strum, then building into great swirls of chaotic orchestral noise, with the damaged, desperate voices of frontpeople/couple Win Butler and R

Jay-Z And Kanye’s ‘N—as In Paris’ Rooted In ‘Real Life’

‘That record is a process of what was happening in Paris at that time,’ Watch the Throne A&R Bu Thiam tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Kanye West in the video for “Paris” Photo: Roc-A-Fella Records The best rap records are usually rooted in reality, but fans have come to expect their favorite MCs to use a bit of poetic license when delivering their rhymes. That’s not the case with Kanye West and Jay-Z , though: According to Def Jam VP of A&R Bu Thiam, the lyrics on the Throne’s “N—as in Paris” — the video for which was released Thursday (February 9) — are as real as they come. “What I realized in this process is that them dudes really rap about what they go through,” Thiam told MTV News back in August after Watch the Throne was released. “I’ve A&R’d other albums, and people, sometimes they rap about somebody else’s story or what they think is a story. But those guys, everything they rap about is what they’re actually going through.” Take “N—as in Paris,” for instance, which has music fans across the world shouting, “That sh– cray.” On the song’s hook Hov raps, “Ball so hard mother—-ers wanna fine me,” and while it sounds like an empty MC boast, the popular lyric is rooted in truth. Hov, who is a minority owner of the NBA’s New Jersey Nets, was caught taking pictures with the University of Kentucky’s men’s basketball team during their NCAA tournament run last year. It all seemed like a harmless gesture, but contact between NBA personnel and potential NBA college prospects is prohibited. In April, the Nets were fined $50,000 for Hov’s actions. “When you hear it, you’re thinking it’s bragging, but no, it’s really true,” Thiam said of the Throne’s lyrics. “It’s crazy how they take the words and they make the songs and make it reality, and you’re thinking it’s just verses, but nah, it’s really reality for them dudes.” Beyond b-ball drama, the accomplished A&R who also helped string together Rihanna’s Talk That Talk said the entire “N—as in Paris” record is just a reflection of Jay and Kanye’s wild outing to France. “Going out, kicking it and just having fun. That record is a process of what was happening in Paris at that time,” he said. “It’s real life, I promise you, it is.” What’s your favorite lyric from the Throne’s “N—as in Paris”? Emilio Rojas Links With DJ Green Lantern For His Big Break

Emilio also enlists J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and V 12 the Hitman for his upcoming mixtape Breaking Point. By Rob Markman Emilio Rojas Photo: MTV News Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Mixtape: Breaking Point Real Spit: Emilio Rojas puts a lot into his lyrics. It’s that attention to detail that got him noticed by XXL in December, when the popular rap magazine launched a 50-artist poll for their upcoming 2012 Freshman cover. Though he’s a rap newcomer, the Rochester, New York, native has been grinding for years. On Thursday, Emilio will drop his fourth mixtape, Breaking Point, for free online with his mentor DJ Green Lantern. “It’s a little bit of a different sound. Less sample-based sound, a little more synthy, mid-tempo,” Emilio told Mixtape Daily of Breaking Point ‘s production. With beats from the Grammy-winning trio J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and V 12 the Hitman, Breaking Point is shaping up to be the perfect follow-up to Rojas’ 2010 tape, Life Without Shame . While his last effort boasted appearances from Big K.R.I.T., Killer Mike, Yelawolf and Mickey Factz, Emilio chose to make BP a solo affair. “I feel like the Life Without Shame project had a lot of rap features on it and I kinda just wanted to rap on my own,” he said. Rojas did include R&B features for his hooks, but no other rapper was invited to take part in the project. The title track finds the nimble-tongued lyricist pouring his heart out with multilayered bars. When talking about his parents, he gets deep. “My daddy learned she was pregnant and he was so angered/ He tried to end it, I’m no stranger to coat hangers/ He getting livid, sittin’ in on the clinic visits… he takes it out on my mama cause, he was into hittin’/ And that’s probably the reason my sister is into women,” Emilio painfully rhymes. Not all of Breaking Point is so heavy however. On “I Got it,” Rojas explores his wild and ignorant side. “It’s gonna catch some people off guard, but it’s fun,” he teases. On “Pimpin’,” ER once again teams with J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. At first Emilio bucked the production trio’s direction. He wanted to perform the song’s hook himself, but the League’s Rook suggested using a seasoned vocalist to sing the chorus. “Rook made me change the hook on [Pimpin’], which I wasn’t happy about,” he said, “but when the hook came in, it was good. Rook made the right call on that.” And Emilio Rojas made the right call with Breaking Point. For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Late blues singer also mourned by Flo Rida, whose latest hit, ‘Good Feeling,’ samples James’ ‘Something’s Got a Hold on Me.’ By Jocelyn Vena Etta James in 1965 Photo: Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images As the world mourns the loss of Etta James , many of her celebrity fans are taking to Twitter to remember the soul singer, known best for songs like “At Last,” “All I Could Do Was Cry” and “Tell Mama.” Adam Lambert, Mya, Keri Hilson and Russell Brand kept their reaction to a simple “RIP,” while others decided to remember the singer in more personal ways. “Showing respect appreciation and love for all the wonderful music and joy #ettajames brought to the world…#ettajamesforever,” Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am tweeted . “Rip [to] Etta James,” the Roots’ ?uestlove wrote . “I will hold the torch high for The Roots name in your honor.” Photos: The life and career of Etta James. A true gift to music and a woman of great spirit and courage. Her raw tone and the passion she put forth on a record spoke to me at a very young age and has continued to influence and inspire me throughout my career. She will NEVER be forgotten, her voice will forever live on and she will inspire talent for generations to come.” British pop singer Jessie J reacted to the news as well, saying , “Just been told the legend that is Etta James has passed. A talent without equal.” Rapper Flo Rida — whose latest hit, “Good Feeling,” samples James’ “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” — added , “I’m deeply saddened by the passing of the Great Etta James and I will be forever grateful for the gift she Blessed me with.” And like Flo, EDM artist Avicii uses the same sample, on his song “Le7els.” That song’s executive producer, Ash Pounouri, sent a statement to MTV News about James’ death: “She had one of the most amazing and standout voices in the world and we are so glad she got to hear our interpretation of her work. ‘Le7els’ will always be a big milestone in not only our career, but for Electronic Dance Music as a whole genre — so many people around the world have embraced her lyrics in this track, especially the generations that would otherwise have risked missing out on acknowledging her incredible vocal talent.” “American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe noted how “inspirational” James has been to young singers. “One of the #IDOL finalists just sang ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ yesterday,” he tweeted. “We were saying how great Etta James was and now we’ve lost her.” It’s not just the music community bidding the singer a fond farewell. “Pretty Little Liars” star Shay Mitchell wrote , “R.I.P Etta James. I’ll keep playing your records over and over again, especially this song,” tweeting a link to her iconic track “At Last.” “Vampire Diaries” actress Candice Accola tweeted , “Oh Etta, you live on in our hearts and leave us dreaming of a Sunday kind of love. Rest in peace.” “Glee” diva Amber Riley added that the jazzy singer had “such a unique & beautiful voice.” James died Friday (January 20) after a lengthy battle with leukemia. She was 73 years old. I’m OK (Justin Bieber Video) with lyrics

A Video I Made for Justin Bieber using the song “I’m OK” by Christina Aguilera. Lyrics: Once upon a time there was a girl In her early years she had to learn How to grow up living in a war that she called home Never knew just where to turn for shelter from the storm Hurt me to see the pain across my mother’s face Every time my father’s fist would put her in her place Hearing all the yelling, I would cry up in my room Hoping it would be over soon Bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same And I still remember how you kept me so afraid Strength is my mother for all the love she gave And every morning that I wake I look back at yesterday And I’m okay I often wonder why I’ve carried all this guilt When it’s you that helped me put up all these walls I’ve built Shadows stir at night through a crack in the door The echo of a broken child screaming “please, no more” Daddy don’t you understand the damage you have done? For you it’s just a memory, but for me it still lives on Bruises fade father, but the pain remains the same And I still remember how you kept me so, so afraid Strength is my mother for all the love she gave Every morning that I wake I look back at yesterday It’s not so easy to forget All the marks you left along her neck When I was thrown against cold stairs And everyday afraid to come home, In fear of what I might see there Bruises fade father but the pain remains the same And I still remember how you kept me so afraid Strength is my mother for all the love … http://www.youtube.com/v/Nn5KcmrZyl8?version=3&f=videos&app=youtube_gdata The rest is here: I’m OK (Justin Bieber Video) with lyrics

‘Glee’-Cap: Will Pops The Question

And he isn’t the only one — check out our musical recap of the latest episode! By Jim Cantiello The cast of “Glee” on Tuesday’s episode Photo: FOX Tuesday night’s “Glee” was all about Will Schuester’s proposal to longtime germaphobe girlfriend Emma, and since he apparently lacks any adult friends, he enlisted his glee-club “family” to help out. They pitched potential songs, ranging from a kick-ass “Moves Like Jagger/ Jumping Jack Flash” mash-up to a sensitive Rachel Berry cover of David Guetta and Usher’s “Without You.” But it was the girls’ “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” that awakened Mercedes’ old feelings for Trouty Mouth. Meanwhile, Becky went after the man she loves — fellow handi-capable student Artie — and viewers sat and watched their brief relationship sour. Bummer. Bigger bummer? Finn’s mom revealed the real way his soldier dad died. Biggest bummer? No Klaine. It was an intense episode filled with belly laughs, several Kleenex-grabs, synchronized swimming, random guest stars and a shocking Finn/Rachel proposal cliffhanger. And it inspired this piano ballad musical “Glee”-cap. Hit play on the embedded video below to check it out, and sing along with the lyrics. I think I hit my head while watching “Glee” this week ‘Cause things got cray A “Grease” homage, but Sam is way more buff than Travolta And not as gay (happy) Enter Coach NeNe Leakes She’s funnier and draggier than anything Eddie Murphy’s done in years Then Helen Mirren speaks as Becky’s brain I guess Ryan Murphy’s “no guest stars” rule disappeared Will asks the kids to pick a song for his proposal ‘Cause he has no real friends and it’s starting to freak me out And in the last half-hour of the show, things got extra dark And they tried really hard to bum me out Surprise! Your dad died! He OD’d thanks to PTSD from the Army Not cool Artie leads Becky on She gets confused ’cause she has Downs Then Artie almost drowns in a pool I’m getting whiplash from the tone LMAO-ing then, hell no, now I’m crying! And then Finn proposed NOOOOOOOOOOO! If there’s a double wedding, to the door I am heading I think I hit my head while watching “Glee” this week ‘Cause things got cray It broke my mind so now I’ll just be here And dancing like Lana Del Rey [ Jim slowly turns in a circle, occasionally touching his hair, looking like a cat paralyzed in fear. ] What did you think of this week’s “Glee”?
