Quality of Life is for Corporate Owners, not you.

“We're producing almost as much as we did before the recession, with 7.5 million less people,” said Lakshman Achuthan, managing director of Economic Cycle Research Institute. “The difference is going into the productivity numbers and corporate profits.” The latest reading on productivity, which measures the economic output of each hour Americans work during a quarter, was up 2.5% from a year ago in the third quarter, the Labor Department reported this week. It's the sixth straight quarter of gains of that level or higher. But that level of productivity can't go on forever, said Achuthan. “There is a limit. Workers do start to push back,” he said. “But business managers don't hire because they're nice guys or girls, they hire because they're scared that they'll lose business to someone else. That'll be what gets hiring done.” http://money.cnn.com/2010/12/03/news/economy/employers_doing_more_with_less/?ire… added by: Swisher

ABC, CBS Inaccurately Report Pope’s Condom Remarks as ‘Change in Policy’

On Tuesday evening, ABC and CBS furthered the mainstream media's largely inaccurate reporting on Pope Benedict XVI's recent remarks on the morality of condom use. While the pontiff stated that condoms are ” not really the way to deal with the evil of HIV infection ,” World News anchor Diane Sawyer stated that ” the Pope shifts his rules on condom use .” Evening News anchor Katie Couric labeled Benedict XVI's comment a ” historic statement ,” and trumpeted how supposedly, ” Pope Benedict says, for the first time, that condoms are okay to protect against HIV and other diseases .” Sawyer included her misleading “Pope shifts his rules on condom use” phrase as she teased the lead stories at the beginning of World News. Sixteen minutes into the half hour program, the ABC anchor introduced correspondent Dan Harris's report, who began by giving a false impression of Benedict's remarks during an interview published in book form given by German journalist Peter Seewald. An on-screen graphic proclaimed, ” A Change in Policy :” read more

Kudlow Calls Tea Parties Bullish for Economy: ‘Don’t Believe the Mainstream Media’

The Media Research Center isn’t the only ones out there telling folks to be wary of the media and its coverage of the Tea Party movement.  On his Sept. 15 broadcast , Larry Kudlow, host of CNBC’s “The Kudlow Report,” hit that point. Referring to “Tea Party” primary win in Delaware, New York and New Hampshire, Kudlow explained that this shift to the right was a net-positive for the economy. “Tonight, free-market capitalism on the comeback trail,” Kudlow said. “That is one of the messages of the Tea Party power. We saw a lot of that power last night in the primaries. I tell you what folks, that Tea Party power, that free-market capitalist power is so totally bullish for the stock market.” Kudlow advised his viewers to be skeptical of the media, which has covered the Tea Party movement and their candidates very critically, even sometimes disparagingly. He cited the “Contract FROM America,” a document put forth by various conservative organizations calling on elected leaders and political candidates to stand on a number of conservative principles. ” Don’t believe the mainstream media ,” he continued. “Don’t believe the pundits in either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. They don’t understand Tea Parties. I do. We’ve had them on this show time and time again as guests, including, including their referendum, the ‘Contract FROM America.'”  The CNBC host has his own 12-step program for the economy.  He maintains that, if successful, the limitations the Tea Party philosophy would put on government are the best way to get back to an economy rooted in free-market principles. “They are talking free markets – lower spending, lower taxing, lower regulations, even constitutional limits to government, and you heard me talk about this last week in my free market 12-step plan for prosperity,” Kudlow said. “The rise of the Tea Party people – they are going to win the vast majority of those Senate races and we are going it see a sea change in American policies back to freedom and entrepreneurship, and that is bullish.”

Food Hub Model Makes Local and Organic Affordable (Video)

Image credit: Development Trusts Association I recently asked whether organics was the private school of food —nice if you can afford it, but not a realistic option for the mainstream population. Affordability is certainly an issue if local, organic and sustainable food is ever going to bust out of its current market niche. One project in the UK is seeking to make sustainable, local shopping as affordable, and as easy, as going to the supermarket. To do so, they’re cutting out the middl… Read the full story on TreeHugger

In Search Of: People Of Color

For more than a year now, the mainstream media has demonized the Tea Party as a group of white racists. On September 12, 2010, we set out to see for ourselves if the Tea Party is as “monochromatic” as most of the media has steadfastly claimed to this day.

Time Managing Editor Rick Stengel ‘Sad’ Israel-West Bank Wall ‘Has Actually Worked’

In Time Magazine Managing Editor Rick Stengel’s mind, it’s really “sad” that the wall between Israel and the West Bank – intended to keep murderous terrorists in the Palestinian territory – has been a success. Stengel apparently considers Isreali deaths worthwhile if they lead to more productive peace talks. In a “Morning Joe” segment yesterday titled “Why Israel doesn’t care about peace” – after the upcoming Time cover story – Stengel posited that the lack of violence in Isreal is responsible for that country’s supposed reluctance to reach a peace deal. Stengel stated (video below the fold – h/t Jim Hoft ): They haven’t had a car bombing in two and a half years. And the sad truth really is that the wall with the West Bank has actually worked . I mean, most Israelis in the course of their lives don’t come into contact with any Palestinians at all. The wall is functioning. And the Gaza strip is so small and so isolated they feel that those folks, the Hamas folks are not that big of a threat… I mean, the Israelis feel like, you know what? The status quo isn’t so bad and we don’t mind is there is no peace at all. So the truth is sad, presumably, because the deaths of innocent Israelis would be a worthwhile price to pay for the progression of Middle East peace talks, by Stengel’s account. That is what Stengel is saying: the wall has succeeded, but at the price of impeding the peace talks. He says that fact is sad, meaning no wall, or a less effective wall would be preferable. More Israelis would die from car bombings, but at least the peace talks would move forward. Stengel believes it would be preferable for more Israelis to be killed by Palestinain terrorists, if it meant that those murderers would get Israeli leaders to the negotiating table. Good to know. This is not a commentator saying this, mind you. This is the managing editor of Time magazine opining that more Israeli deaths would be preferable to the status quo. If this does not convince you that the mainstream media is decidedly anti-Israel, nothing will. The contention that Israel is less interested in peace talks because it does not have much to fear from the belligerent territory to its west is a valid concern, and does not require one to weigh in on the Israeli/Palestinian issue. But Stengel made a value judgment on that statement, claiming that more Israeli deaths (how many more he didn’t specify) are an acceptable sacrifice. That speaks volumes about Time’s ability to weigh in objectively on the issue.

NY Times Frank Rich: Fox News Trying to Portray Obama as a ‘Closet Terrorist’

Never mind the personal feelings of people, which they’re entitled to have, over the notion of a mosque being built in close proximity to Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. Those sensitivities have nothing to do with what’s really going on. It’s really all about President Barack Obama and his political opponents according to New York Times columnist Frank Rich.  On MSNBC’s Aug. 26 broadcast of “The Rachel Maddow Show,” host Rachel Maddow admitted she was befuddle that anti-Islam sentiment has seemingly peaked in the past few weeks and wondered why it has suddenly been brought to boil, with the mosque in question at the forefront. “For all the bad decisions made post-9/11, we really didn’t see a national, like, open partisan two-minutes hate toward Muslims the way we are seeing now about this mosque debate,” Maddow said. “Why is it happening now?” This could be one of the rare moments Rich actually had something positive to say about former President George W. Bush. According to Rich, you didn’t see a hostile response toward Islam in America because Bush managed to tread lightly around the issue. “I think it’s happening now because of Obama,” Rich said. “I mean, go back to right after 9/11. Bush for whatever reason did the right thing. Very quickly he went to an Islamic center in Washington. He said Islam is a religion of peace, we’re not out to get Islam.” So if this is an occasion where the American left isn’t pointing fingers at Bush – where should they be pointed? Another go-to target loathed by liberals – the Fox News Channel. According to Rich, this was a conspiracy which FNC was in cahoots with the “right-wing” to make Obama out not only to be a Muslim, but also a “closet terrorist.” “Why is it starting up now?” Rich continued. “Well, I think it fits into, if I may say so, the Fox/right-wing strategy of trying to portray Obama as a closest terrorist basically, and a practitioner of Islam . So it has a synergy in a campaign year and this whole thing has been ginned up and it’s depressing. It’s undermining the war. It’s – it’s doing nothing but spreading bad feeling.” The debate over Obama’s religion and what certain segments of society think about the President’s faith has been a fascination of the mainstream media in recent weeks. Several polls have cast a large amount of attention to the subject, which has begged the question – if it’s silly to debate Obama’s faith, why have the media dedicated so much attention to the topic ?

Is Zero-Waste Fashion Penetrating the Mainstream?

Pioneers behind zero-waste fashion have a solution: designing clothing patterns that uses every inch of fabric; if it sounds easy, it’s not. The

Sean Hannity Wishes NewsBusters a Happy 5th Anniversary

Sean Hannity on his radio program Wednesday wished NewsBusters a Happy 5th Anniversary. As he talked to a caller about his Freedom Alliance, he thanked NewsBusters for helping to debunk smears against him and his charitable organization. Moments later, he expressed his gratitude for NewsBusters’ efforts in “challenging the mainstream Obama-mania media” (audio embedded below the fold): SEAN HANNITY: By the way, thanks to NewsBusters and Erick Erickson at RedState, my buddy. I mean, they’ve gone there. As liberals, they even attack fundraising for the military with distortion and lies. And they went out there and said, “Excuse me, you’re forgetting there’s $15 million in this trust fund. Sorry.” You know, then they try to purposely distort the numbers. By the way, it’s the fifth anniversary of NewsBusters, and we want to say Happy Anniversary to them. Thank God there are people out there challenging the mainstream Obama-mania media. NewsBusters thanks Sean as well as his executive producer James Grisham and engineer Greg Ahlfeld for their well wishes.
