For The Stans: Beyonce’s “New Genre” Could Sound Like This

Maybe Bey Bey was trying to tell us something about her new musical direction when she popped up at Cochella on her indie rock flow to support the hubby last year. Elctro-funk-hip-hop DJ/and producer Diplo just revealed he is one of people Beyonce has recruited for her super secret fourth solo album and that new genre she’s creating . On Monday (Jan. 24), Diplo — who is best known for his work with M.I.A. and as one-half of the duo Major Lazer (with longtime collaborator Switch) — revealed that he, Beyoncé, and Derek of the indie electro-pop duo Sleigh Bells recently recorded music together in a New York studio. “I like sleigh bells so much,” Diplo wrote on the blog for his label imprint, Mad Decent. “Me and switch was in studio in nyc tryin to make tracks with derek and beyonce last week after we played her team their album…dunno if we gonna manage to finish but it was good times.” Sleigh Bells appeared to corroborate Diplo’s post with a somewhat crytpic message their Twitter page: “yeah damn beyonce on it was intense track may not get finished (?) but we finished the rum off at least” Who is Sleigh Bells? They’re a “noise pop” duo out of Brooklyn that looks like this… And sounds like this when they work with Diplo… Do you think Beyonce can pull this sound off? Source

Afrojack Discusses His Part In Chris Brown’s ‘Look At Me Now’

Dutch dance producer tells MTV News how he contributed to C. Breezy’s Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Diplo collabo. By Akshay Bhansali Afrojack in an MTV News Skype interview Photo: MTV News Afrojack already had reason to celebrate as he headed into the new year. The Dutch dance-music producer’s pop/dance single “Take Over Control,” featuring singer Eva Simons, made the top 25 on Billboard ‘s Dance/Club Play Songs chart in December. And now his second U.S. release, packed with hip-hop heavy-hitters, seems primed for chart success. MTV News caught up with the EDM producer (born Nick van de Wall) for a skype chat last week, and he talked about his contribution to Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” the latest offering from the singer’s upcoming F.A.M.E. album. The track is a fast-rapping flurry of awesome self-indulgence courtesy of Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne and Chris, with an eerie downtempo beat cooked up by chefs Afrojack and Diplo. The pair of producers previously collaborated on “Pon De floor,” off Diplo’s Major Lazer full-length release, and according to Afrojack, “Look at Me Now” is the product of a beat he’d passed along to the Philadelphia producer. “Yeah, Diplo called me,” Afrojack recalled. “He was like, ‘We are in the studio right now, and we are gonna do a track on the beat.’ And I was like, ‘OK, whatever. Have fun.’ ” Eventually, “Look at Me Now,” was born. While Afrojack sounded casual about the song’s evolution, he said he’s certainly pleased with the finished product. “I just love these kind of people on a track like this,” he said. “It’s like hip-hop, but really weird kind of hip-hop. “Busta’s verse on it is really sick,” he continued. “It’s like I can’t even hear what he said, but I love the part where he goes [ mimics Busta’s rapid flow ], and then pauses and goes rapping really quickly. And I don’t know how to do it, I don’t even try. But it was really, really cool.” So what’s next for Afrojack? Apart from working on a remix for Pitbull , he premiered a new single exclusively for MTV News that we will be sharing with you very soon. All you Afrojack fans stay tuned! Diplo Previews Thom Yorke’s Major Lazer Remix For New EP

Producer explains how the Radiohead frontman wound up on Lazers Never Die. By James Montgomery Thom Yorke Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images At the South by Southwest music festival in March, MTV News sat down with producer Diplo to talk about his work on M.I.A.’s upcoming ///Y/&#92 album (this was before he called it “a turd” ), and, at the end of the chat — almost in passing — he mentioned an upcoming EP by his Major Lazer project that featured a remix by none other than Radiohead ‘s Thom Yorke . It sounded pretty rad, but there was one problem: According to a label rep who was standing off-camera, the EP would probably never see the light of day, due to — as she put it — “clearance issues.” This was news to practically everyone, Diplo included. “There’s an EP that comes out next month, I think — is it coming out?” he said, stopping to ask the rep. “Oh, it’s not cleared? Oh, well, we have like five records, there’s a record with Collie Buddz, Thom Yorke did a remix for us. … I mixed it down; it’s pretty crazy. … It’ll get out, somehow.” Turns out, he wasn’t kidding. After months of waiting, the Major Lazer EP, called Lazers Never Die, will hit stores on July 20. So, we decided now was a pretty good time to revisit our chat with Dip, in which he told the story behind the collaboration with Yorke. “He came to our party in London in August, the Carnival party — the Notting Hill Carnival — it’s one of the biggest Caribbean parties in the world, 1.5 million people there, dancing to disco, dub music, everything, and Thom Yorke was at our party. He got in, was moshing basically the whole party, like going crazy for Major Lazer,” Diplo laughed. “I met him and we traded some information, and he asked to do a remix for Major Lazer. … And of all the tracks he could’ve remixed, he picked ‘Jump Up,’ which is this jumping, crazy, hype record. And I was like, ‘All right, you sure?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, we can do that one.’ “And he did it, I mixed it down a little bit and put it on our EP,” he continued. “It’s pretty good. It sounds like what you would expect. It sounds like a Thom Yorke remix. It sounds something like ‘Idioteque’ off the Kid A record. I’m a huge Radiohead fan. … What they do kind of influences our music so heavily. I feel like sometimes, Radiohead maybe has a mistake in the studio, and they build with it. They clean it up and make something out of it. And that’s what we kind of do. I feel like most of the stuff I do is an accident.” And that includes spilling the beans on the Die EP, though, even back in March, Dip seemed confident that eventually, fans would be able to hear it. Even if he had to take matters into his own hands. “People will find it,” he laughed, winking at the publicist. “If it doesn’t come out soon, you’ll find it.” Who would you like to see do a remix with Major Lazer? ‘Pon De Floor’- Major Lazer

Major Lazer's video for 'Pon De Floor' is weird. It's like a trip to a virtual-reality MTV's Real World House where only fully clothed dry-humping happens, but it happens a lot, and it's sorta obscene
