Eminem’s Recovery Dominates Billboard 200

Miley Cyrus’ Can’t Be Tamed debuts at #3, behind Drake’s Thank Me Later. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Guess who’s back? Eminem is notching his sixth #1 album in a row with Recovery , which sold more than 741,000 copies last week. Those numbers dwarfed the figures for the all of the rest of the top 10 on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, as Slim Shady put up the best first-week numbers since 2008, far surpassing year’s other big debuts (Drake, Lady Antebellum, Sade). Proving once again that despite the album’s early leak, his fans will still come out to support the Detroit MC, Em’s massive haul pushes last week’s #1, Drake ‘s Thank Me Later down to #2. Sales for Drake’s debut cratered by 65 percent to 157,000, but the melodic Young Money MC still passed the gold mark in just two weeks, according to numbers provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Miley Cyrus had a rough landing for her more mature Can’t Be Tamed, which comes in at #3 on sales of 102,000, less than half of what 2008’s Breakout did in its debut week (371,000). And though he still hasn’t reached his goal of snagging a #1 debut on the U.S. charts, metal legend Ozzy Osbourne ‘s latest solo effort, Scream, lands at #4 after moving 81,000 copies. It’s followed at #6 by the chart bow from the Roots ‘ long-in-the-works How I Got Over (51,000). In a relatively slow week on the charts, the rest of the top 10 include: Now 34 (#5, 55,000), Jack Johnson ‘s To the Sea (#7, 44,000), Justin Bieber ‘s My World 2.0 (#8, 43,000), Sarah McLachlan ‘s Laws of Illusion (#9, 38,000) and the soundtrack to “Eclipse” (#10, 38,000). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ‘ Mojo crashes down nine spots in week two to #11, as sales dipped by 74 percent to 33,000. After 24 weeks in the top 10, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now has dropped to #12 on sales of 32,000. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera ‘s Bionic continues to struggle, as the singer’s latest slips out of the top 10 after just three weeks, dropping to #22 as sales trailed off by 54 percent to 18,000. One of Aguilera’s collaborators, singer Sia , debuts at #37 with We Are Born (11,000), while soul mama Macy Gray is right behind at #38 with Sellout (11,000). As the world marked the one-year anniversary of his death, Michael Jackson ‘s Number Ones collection rockets up more than 50 spots to #42 on sales of just under 10,000 (one of several Jackson titles to march back up the charts this week). Curren$y Becomes ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’ Contender With Help From Dame Dash

MC is poised to make his major-label debut on the re-launched Roc-A-Fella. By Jayson Rodriguez Curren$y Photo: Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Curren$y The Hot Spitta’s been pursuing happiness longer than most on the “Hottest Breakthrough” list. A few years ago, Lil Wayne introduced Curren$y to the world with their rumbling collaboration “Where Tha Cash At,” also featuring Remy Ma. But the New Orleans native hasn’t truly had a moment until recently. His deal with Young Money was severed due to creative differences, and he released two indie projects in the meantime. Now, though, Curren$y is aligned with Damon Dash’s DD172 studio and the hip-hop mogul’s partnership with Creative Control, a cutting-edge visual content company. The result is his forthcoming Pilot Talk. It’s not only his major-label debut but also the first effort from the re-launched Roc-A-Fella Records under Dash and Def Jam. “I call it opposite world,” Curren$y told MTV News about his deferred dreams. “That’s what I’ve named it. I’ve been doing this for a minute, and I’ve grown accustomed to things just not really panning out. But I still have a good time, so it don’t really matter. But this time, I keep waiting. “To know that [Dash] wasn’t trying to be involved in music — he reached out to do the Black Roc project to do a verse and both got so cool and knew that was it,” he continued. “I been to a million meetings, and that really wasn’t a meeting. We just kicked it. Might as well get money at the same time.” Since joining forces with Dash, Curren$y has helped recruit Mos Def and Jay Electronica into the fold, as the three plan have been collaborate on a project together. And as the de facto leader of the DD172 movement, the warbly-voiced MC has helped Wiz Khalifa and Big K.R.I.T. raise their profile by trading woozy verses with them on their mixtape projects. They all share a similar vibe, featuring laid-back production and music that’s perfect to listen to in candy-painted rides. According to Curren$y, their sound is the foundation for their current rise. “The music is progressive, and people are receptive to it, because [most other] music sounds the same,” he said. “Everything sounds the same. Really, they’re doing us a favor by staying like that. People want to be relevant so bad that once they see somebody win, they do exactly what that person did and they stop doing what they do. Except for us. So continue to do that. We think it’s awesome.” Curren$y and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Most Major Oil Co’s Have Same Fabricated Spill "Response Plan" as BP

Image via Ocean World Earlier today, executives from other major oil companies engaged in offshore drilling testified before Washington. They attempted to convince the legislators that their drilling procedures and containment plans were much safer than BP’s, and that they can be trusted to continue drilling safely in deep waters. ‘Shrek Forever After’ Tops Box Office For Third Straight Weekend

Second-place finisher ‘Get Him to the Greek’ was best of the new releases. By Josh Wigler “Shrek Forever After” Photo: Marco Garcia/ Getty Images The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Shrek Forever After” ($25.3 million) #2 “Get Him to the Greek” ($17.4 million) #3 “Killers” ($16.1 million) #4 “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” ($13.9 million) #5 “Sex and the City 2” ($12.7 million) Even with four major new releases hitting theaters this weekend, box-office supremacy remained in the clutches of the mean green ogre known as Shrek. “Shrek Forever After,” the franchise’s fourth installment, topped the charts with a $25.3 million haul from Friday through Sunday, marking the film’s third consecutive weekend victory. Of the weekend’s new releases, “Get Him to the Greek” performed the best. The raunchy comedy stars Jonah Hill as a young talent agent and Russell Brand as Aldous Snow, the troubled rock star first introduced in 2008’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” “Greek” managed a respectable $17.4 million haul, nearly halving its reported $40 million production budget. Although “Greek” wasn’t able to best “Shrek,” it did manage to defeat “Killers,” the spy-themed romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl as a married couple drawn into the deadly world of espionage. The film earned a third-place finish worth $16.1 million. The weekend’s other major new releases, “Marmaduke” and “Splice,” stayed out of the top five altogether with sixth- and eighth-place finishes, respectively. It’s a particularly disappointing finish for the Owen Wilson-starring “Marmaduke,” as the family film was the widest new release of the weekend by a significant margin of over 300 theaters. Rounding out fourth and fifth place were last weekend’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and “Sex and the City 2.” Upcoming Releases Action is the name of the game next weekend as the Bradley Cooper-starring “The A-Team” and the remake of “The Karate Kid” enter the box-office arena. Eva Longoria Confirms a "Thing" on Set Between Nicollette Sheridan and Marc Cherry

Appearing today on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, Eva Longoria was asked about the lawsuit brought on this week by her former co-star, Nicollette Sheridan, against her current boss, Marc Cherry. While initially saying she doesn’t know “any of the details,” Tony Parker’s more beautiful half did proceed to open up about an incident that took place around 2008. “I know that they did have a thing on set – I guess it was a couple of years ago,” she said. “It’s so long ago, the actual incident, and I wasn’t on set when it happened,” she said. But apparently this incident had happened, and she felt it was wrong. “I am trying to get the dirt here on set, but no one’s allowed to talk about it.” Longoria referred to Cherry as “sweet” and added: “He really probably could not harm a fly.” But the actress did elaborate more on what she knows, saying: “[Nicollette] was doing a scene, and… he was showing her how to do a scene. Honestly, I wish I knew.” That seems to be the common consensus forming: Cherry and Sheridan were arguing about a scene that involved a slap, when the Desperate Housewives creator took it upon himself to physically show his star what he was looking for. That certainly makes more sense than reports that Cherry truly smacked Sheridan across the face out of anger. Such a confrontation would never have remained under the radar for this long. As always, we’ll follow up on this story when more information is available.

Michael Lohan and Kate Major: Engaged!

Michael Lohan and Kate Major, the former Star magazine reporter who made headlines last summer for quitting her job to date Jon Gosselin, are engaged! No date has been set, but Kate 2.0 said, “I’ve already talked to some bridesmaids, and it will probably be in New York … probably at the end of this year .” She brought Mike to meet her dad in Florida last weekend to get his approval. Somehow he got it?! “I’m very traditional,” Kate Major says. “Michael went down with me for Easter, to meet my father to ask his permission, and my father gave his blessing.” Lindsay, meet your new stepmom. She’s just four years old than you! Already wearing an engagement ring, says of her man, “I’m ecstatic. I’m very happy. Michael and I have known each other for four years, and it’s meant to be.” Michael Lohan echoed his future bride’s sentiments: “I’m ecstatic. I have never met anyone who’s been there for me like Kate. She’s always been there for me.” “The one thing about Kate is that she doesn’t come with baggage.” Well, sans the Jon Gosselin thing, but compared to that guy, Michael Lohan may actually look like a prize catch. He’s only a terrible dad to three kids, not eight! But seriously, we’re happy for the couple and wish them the best. We still expect another unwarranted, pissed-off rant from Mike, but we wish them the best.
