Nicki Minaj Isn’t ‘Rushing’ Her Debut Album

‘I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things,’ Young Money MC says. By Shaheem Reid Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj ‘s latest string of guest appearances have garnered her plenty of attention — actress Michelle Trachtenberg even posted a vlog of herself singing Nick’s verse to Robin Thicke’s “Shakin’ it 4 Daddy.” The blogs are also buzzing about her verse (and Freddy Krueger look) in the Ludacris “My Chick Bad” video, as well as her appearance in the Mariah Carey “Up Out My Face” clip. Will these famous collaborators return the favor and jump on Minaj’s debut LP? “I’m sure they will. You know what’s funny — I thinking I’m gonna have more features than I even wanna put on my album,” she told MTV News recently. “I’ve gotten great feedback from artists I look up to and never thought I’d work with. They’re already in line to be on the project. But it’s like, ‘Do I want to put out a debut album with a 1,000 features on it or do I wanna finally showcase Nicki?’ I’m not worried about features at all because I’ve been blessed to come in the game and work with top-notch artists from the inception of my career.” Those guest appearances and her verses on the Young Money album will have to tide her fans over for the time being — she’s just getting around to recording her album. “I’m the very beginning stage of the recording process of my album,” she explained. “I have songs that where I am now, they aren’t a great representation of me to where I’m at musically. I wanna start from scratch but I do have my single and it’ll be out. It’s gonna be ‘Massive Attack.’ “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” she added. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does. We’re so not used to seeing it. It’s nonexistent in categories. We don’t get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come. Honestly, I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things either. We’ll see.” Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Mariah Carey Hits The Stage At Universal

Mariah Carey hit the stage for a sold out concert at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal Studios last night and what is she wearing? That dress is way too tight and it has more ruffles than a 1973 New Jersey high school prom. What do you think?

Mariah Carey Wows Crowd, Pokes Fun At Herself At L.A. Show

‘I know it’s a diva moment,’ singer jokes as she summons hair and makeup people onstage. By Ryan J. Downey Mariah Carey performs at L.A.’s Gibson Amphitheatre on Tuesday Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Early into her set, Mariah Carey smiled widely as she surveyed the packed Gibson Amphitheatre on night one of a two-night stand. “You sound very, very festive,” she told the audience. She picked up a glass from a table full of beverages. “This is water — don’t get it twisted, please. Now that’s not to say there aren’t other things on the table. This is L.A. And I have been known to have a sip or two in L.A.” Mariah Carey On Tour It was one of several moments of feisty self-effacing humor from the chatty singer. Throughout the night, her between-song banter felt light, honest and steadfastly lucid, in stark contrast to recent well-publicized bouts of public babbling . Her intimate connection with her fans was palpable from start to finish. The evening began at 9 p.m., right on schedule. “I’m usually much more late and people criticize me for that,” she pointed out later in the show. “But tonight, in Los Angeles, was I on time?” The crowd roared in the affirmative. A rousing rendition of “Shake It Off” set the tone for what felt like a celebratory evening. The band and backup singers stood toward the back of the stage on high platforms, resembling a 1950s dance-show set, which kept the focus on Carey. The crowd sang the “I will hunt you down” refrains back to her, loudly, during “Touch My Body” and kept the participation going throughout the night. Backup dancers disappeared and returned in varying configurations throughout the show. “I had forgotten about this song the whole tour and I don’t know why. Funny I should forget it considering the title,” she laughed as she introduced “Don’t Forget About Us.” She stayed dressed in a form-fitting short dress with a flared, tutu-like bottom for the first portion of the night, occasionally using a white mic stand. There were a couple of wardrobe changes into other form-fitting attire. Mariah took a gulp of champagne (and later shilled for her own upcoming brand) while lying seductively on a chaise that seemed to have been brought out expressly for that purpose before singing “Always Be My Baby.” It was the most symbolic moment of the evening, somehow embodying the many facets of her appeal in a single action: beauty, sexiness, luxury, playfulness and talent. At one point she complained about a chair being placed too far from the fans — the electric fans. “Don’t you know that my hair naturally blows just like in all of the videos? That’s real,” she joked. She asked for hair and makeup people to come onstage and touch her up, saying, “I know it’s a diva moment, but I don’t care.” But the vibe of all of the antics was coy and knowing, like a joke within a joke that all of the crowd is in on. “I went to beauty school, so I can do this, too. Five hundred hours! The teacher hated me.” A few tasteful and well-timed moments of seriousness notwithstanding — “Fly Like a Bird” was dedicated to her late bishop, “Angels Cry” to the people of Haiti — the evening rolled out with a relaxed vibe and the hits kept flowing, including “Make It Happen,” “It’s Like That” and “Up Out My Face.” A male backup singer took over for a cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Rock Your Body.” “The ‘Heartbreaker’ remix was my favorite part of the night,” a 20-year-old fan named Manny told MTV News. “I wrote it for my husband, who is not here tonight because he had business,” Carey said before “The Impossible,” the night’s only reference to Nick Cannon. “Whatever. Maybe he’ll surprise me one night.” Mary J. Blige was also absent for the text-message-drama song “It’s a Wrap,” which didn’t stop Carey from belting out the entire number herself. “Give it up for the jet skis in the video!” she shouted during “Honey.” Carey thanked Jermaine Dupri for co-writing “We Belong Together,” which she said he told her was Billboard ‘s Song of the Decade. It also holds a high honor in the heart of at least one concertgoer, Tiffany, 21. “It’s my favorite song from Mariah. It’s my favorite song, period,” she told MTV News. Carey returned for an encore, “Hero,” before unleashing the crowd into the night to fend off bootleg T-shirt vendors as they wandered Universal City Walk. A remixed version of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, called Angels Advocate, was due in stores this month but pushed back to March . Carey mentioned during the show that it might be pushed back again. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon: Looking to Start a Family?

They’ve defied the odds and have remained married for over a year. Up next for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon? Children. “Mariah and Nick are thrilled at the prospect of finally starting a family together,” a source told The National Enquirer . “Mariah feels incredibly blessed to have a solid marriage and a soaring career – but now her primary goal is motherhood.” And to show off her cleavage as much as humanly possible. These same insiders say both sides have made their New Year’s resolution to have a baby in 2010… by any means possible. “If they don’t conceive naturally, then Mariah and Nick are ready to adopt,” said a friend. “They have lined up several potential adoption agencies.” Rumors circulated in early 2009 that said the Grammy-winning artist suffered a miscarriage scare, but those weren’t confirmed. When asked in October whether she was ready for kids, Mariah emphatically replied: “We definitely want a family.” THG wishes her and her husband the very best of luck in accomplishing that goal. We can only imagine how much larger Mariah’s breasts will get if she’s knocked up.

Tony Yayo Hopes Eminem Will Join G-Unit’s U.S. Tour

‘It would be an honor if Em came out,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Tony Yayo Photo: Rahman Dukes/MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive In a couple of weeks, the G-Unit will be heading overseas for an international tour. Come June, the 50 Cent-captained team is scheduled to do something they haven’t done in quite some time: tour the United States. Although no dates or other acts have been announced for the bill, Tony Yayo is hoping at least Slim Shady will be on the road with them. “I’m not sure if Eminem is gonna be a part of the bill,” Yayo said recently in New York. “I know 50 wants to go out and do the U.S. tour. It would be an honor if Em came out. Shout to Em, the whole D12, everybody out there. “My best experience was [the] Anger Management [3 tour] with 50 and Eminem,” Yayo added. “They was killing each other on the tour, it was crazy. That was an ill tour. Em comes out, Fif comes out, D12, Proof was still alive — rest in peace to Proof . That’s one of the best hype men ever.” While Yayo was fantasizing out loud, he threw another name in the mix. “You know what? I would love to see Eminem, Dre and 50 do a big tour, so I could make millions of dollars,” he said. “I’ll be a stagehand and work in the back. I wouldn’t even care. I know I’ll make a million dollars lifting stuff. It’s an honor to be in their presence.” Obviously, it would be a huge undertaking to get all these guys on the road together, but Yayo and the fans can dream, can’t they? “With guys like Em and Dre and Fif, these guys got busy schedules,” the Queens native said. “Em is working on another album. Fif got about 15 movies; he’s working on another movie right now called ‘The Gun.’ Dre — come on, man, you see them Dr. Dre headphones selling like hot cakes everywhere you go. Those guys are busy guys. I feel blessed I could say that I know Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent. A lot of artists beg to do a song with Eminem, beg to do a song with 50 Cent, beg to do a song with Dre — I’ve experienced all those worlds.” Yayo said that his new album might be called Godfather of the Ghetto, and like Lloyd Banks’ next album, he wants to put it out this summer while the Unit are on tour. As for when 50 might release another LP, Tony said Fif isn’t focused on that right now. “50 is like a chameleon,” Yayo said. “What I seen from Fif, he’s in Will Smith mode; he’s shooting movie after movie. I know he’s definitely supporting me and Banks’ albums.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
