We’re really going places this week on DVD and Blu-ray: First, the Adam Sandler popularity train keeps on rolling, somehow, as That’s My Boy (2012) hits DVD and Blu-ray. Eva Amurri Martino and Leighton Meester star, but the only nudity comes from “naked lady in car” Kristen Valinch . Speaking of locomotives, the Jamie Lee Curtis cult classic Terror Train (1980) hits Blu-ray this week with smokin’ smokestacks from hot blonde Joy Boushel . For the espresso-sipper in your life, this week Sophie Quinton does her best Marilyn Monroe impersonation in the quirky French comedy Nobody Else But You (2011), and the reigning King of Quirk, Wes Anderson , brings his newest (probably) non-nude opus, Moonrise Kingdom (2012), to DVD and Blu-ray. Also nude on Blu-ray, the dearly departed Lina Romay is featured in her usual state of unshaven undress in the Jess Franco flicks Female Vampire (1973) and Exorcism (1974). More after the jump!

As I skim the warmed-over tributes to Marilyn Monroe on the dubious occasion of her being dead for 50 years, a variation of one headline keeps coming up: “50 Years Dead and More Alive Than Ever.” Rather than post some smart-ass comment about lazy headline writers, I thought I’d work with that idea: If Marilyn was still alive, what would have been some great movie vehicles for her? Below, in no particular order, my Movieline Nine wish list, which mostly ignores what Monroe’s actual would have been when these movies would have been made. This is hypothetical after all, and, besides, if you, type “Marilyn Monroe” and “ageless” into Google, you get more than 3.8 million hits. Okay, Marilyn fans, you’ve been served. Now, in the words of J.J. Hunsecker: “Match me.” Put your wish lists in the comments section below. 1. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988): Because Monroe playing the voice of Jessica Rabbit and delivering the line, “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way,” in her presumably wizened sex-kitten voice voice would have been a beautiful thing. 2. Th e Poseidon Adventure (1972): Actually, no time-space continuum meddling would have been necessary for Monroe to have starred in this movie. Shelley Winters was 52 when she played the part of Belle Rosen and made that unforgettable — and ultimately sacrificial — swim to save Gene Hackman and secure that underwater lifeline. Monroe would have been 46, and I’d like to think she would have been as bawdy and mouthy as Winters at that age. The swimming scene could also have been a great nod to her hot-stuff swimming-pool scenes in Something’s Got to Give , which, in keeping with the premise here, would have actually been finished. 3. Grey Gardens (2009): Given all of the media generated by alleged Monroe’s relationships with John F. Kennedy and his brother Bobby, think of the press frenzy that would have resulted had she portrayed Jacqueline Onassis’ loopy aunt, Edith “Big Edie” Bouvier Beale in Michael Sucsy’s dramatic adaptation of the Maysles Brothers 1975 documentary. 4. Young Adult (2011): This would require putting Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman in the Hot Tub Time Machine and sending them back to 1962, but, lo, the results! Monroe takes Charlize Theron’s homewrecking role, and a young Don Rickles takes over for Patton Oswalt. That’s a movie I want to see. Plus, the subject matter makes the movie much more talked-about in 1960s, thereby getting it more of the Oscar love it surely deserved. 5. Thelma & Louise (1991): Once again, some time-bending would be required since Monroe would have been in her mid-60s when this movie was made. The more important question, though is, would Marilyn have made a better Thelma or Louise? I say Louise, because I bet that by the time she hit middle age, Monroe would have thrilled to play a scene where she shoots a man. 6. Flirting with Disaster (1996): Monroe would have been pushing 70–about 10 years older than Mary Tyler Moore was when the sitcom star turned heads as the acidic, body-conscious Mrs. Coplin. But if Monroe had cared for her her curves, David O. Russell would have pulled a hallmark performance from her. I suspect Monroe would not have been nearly as tart as Moore, but she would have been memorable. 7. Ocean’s 11 (2001): You’re thinking Angie Dickinson’s role, I’m not. I love Elliott Gould, particularly in this movie, but I think Steven Soderbergh directing Monroe as the female Reuben Tishkoff would have been so cool. Clooney and Pitt could have played off her as if they’d had a sexual past in younger days, and Monroe could have had a Mae West Sextette moment. 8. New York, New York (1977): I was planning to include a Hitchcock film on here until I read some of Tippi Hedren’s interviews about her sexual harassment at the hands of the brilliant-but-brutish director. Then it hit me: Marty! Yes, I know the movie has its flaws, but it’s ambitious, and Scorsese would have pushed Monroe to new heights in both the dramatic scenes and the musical numbers. Then again, Marilyn was no Liza Minnelli. So, if you’re really struggling with it, throw reality to the wind and imagine Monroe in Sharon Stone’s role in Casino. 9. Step Sisters (In my dreams) So, in some alternate reality, some super agent convinces Adam McKay to direct a remake of his 2008 comedy Step Brothers starring Madonna and Lady Gaga in, respectively, in the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly roles. Monroe would play Mary Steenburgen’s part. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo would write. Yes, I know, it would be easier to raise Monroe from the dead than get Madonna to co-star in anything with Gaga, but just think of the box office. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter . Director Anthony Mandler talks to MTV News about Del Rey and A$AP Rocky’s controversial new clip, which has them playing JFK and Jackie O. By James Montgomery Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky in the video for “National Anthem” Photo: Ever since Anthony Mandler wrapped production on Lana Del Rey ‘s “National Anthem” video a month ago, he has spent just about every day trying to avoid talking about it … mostly because he knew there’d be no shortage of folks doing just that when the clip premiered. After all, the video — which premiered Wednesday (June 27) and features Del Rey in dual Jacqueline Kennedy/Marilyn Monroe roles and A$AP Rocky as John F. Kennedy — was seemingly destined to create conversation, if not controversy. But now that it’s finally been unveiled, he’s weighing in on the social and political contexts of the clip (from Portugal, via Skype) to MTV News. “You see why I held back on talking about it; I didn’t want to spoil anything. Anytime you’re dealing with the American Camelot of the Kennedys, you’re dealing with a packed powder keg,” he said. “And really, what Lana was trying to do — this was her concept, she came to me with it, and I kind of dug it out with her — was really look and explore an archetype; just like Shakespeare wrote ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ and that became the archetype of the forbidden love story. “And I think the Kennedy relationship, certainly the triangle of Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O and Jack Kennedy, became this kind of ideal of what seemed perfect from the outside was maybe rotting from the inside,” he continued. “And Lana was really interested in exploring this loss of innocence, this idea that what you think you’re experiencing is maybe not what it’s always going to be. Because when you say ‘Kennedy,’ that immediately evokes something, just like when I say ‘It’s a Romeo and Juliet story.’ So I think using that power, that pedigree of the story is a really fascinating place to show the loss of something, the breakdown of something.” Of course, building off that archetype, the “National Anthem” video takes the socially charged stance of re-imagining the main characters as an interracial couple. It was a decision that was bound to raise some eyebrows, which, according to Mandler, was precisely the point. “We used the Kennedy framework to kind of implement this new Camelot, this racially diverse Camelot, this maybe socially diverse Camelot … bringing it into the modern era, but still keeping that classic framework,” he explained. “There’s a kind of micro-commentary of ‘This is the new royalty,’ you know, A$AP and Lana, trying to pick two people to maybe represent the next generation of something. I think even with an African American president, it’s still controversial to see him sitting and playing JFK, it’s still taboo, even if it shouldn’t be. You’re kind of like ‘Is this right or wrong? This feels very right, but also feels very wrong at the same time.’ And I think in all of Lana’s songs, and her image in general, and the person she is, it all fits in. It’s kind of like there are two sides of a mirror, and you’re not sure which side you’re looking at.” And though he’s aware the video may rankle some, Mandler wanted to make it clear that “National Anthem” isn’t meant to disrespect the Kennedy legacy … and to that end, he points to the climactic final scene, which re-enacts JFK’s 1963 assassination, minus any of the grisly details. Because, to him, the video is less about reinterpreting history and as it is about examining loss, historical or otherwise. “We didn’t want it to be a mockery. How many artists and rappers and singers have you seen running around in badly fitted suits, acting like the president? And I think it may have worked with other people to mock, but that was not what we wanted; we want this to be very serious,” he said. “The whole movie kind of hedges on the gunshot, it hedges on that close-up of the hand when the gunshot happens, and you don’t see anything violent. What you’re used to seeing with the Zapruder film, is this very kind of violent, destructive act; I didn’t want to go anywhere near that. “It was never about re-creating a death scene, it was always about the person sitting next to him,” he continued. “It was always about seeing it through her eyes, seeing this kind of castle crumble in the moment, and that shot where she’s coming up out of the car, and the pain in her eyes, that destruction, it’s like the whole castle is crumbling around her. That’s what we were going for.” Related Videos A$AP Rocky Rips Up ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists Lana Del Rey
Famed photographer Terry Richardson has caused a stir after he posted an image on his blog of troubled star Lindsay Lohan with a handgun in her mouth. Considering who we’re talking about, the imagery is shocking. Playing with guns is never cool, of course, but when the girl doing so is the #1 seed in everyone’s celebrity death pool and looks like a drugged-out mess? That just feels wrong, but it certainly gets people talking … Wednesday, Richardson pulled the controversial photos of the 25-year-old star, replacing the gun pics with a new set of racy black and white images. The sexy shots, taken inside her home away from home (the Chateau Marmont), show Lindsay in a see-through bra and underwear. Pretty standard. Posing nude is nothing new for Lohan, who just took it all off for Playboy in an homage to Marilyn Monroe, and did a similar spread for NY Magazine years ago. Terry is no stranger to pushing the envelope either. Racy photos of celebs are sort of his calling card … along with the Kate Upton Cat Daddy video. Photos from Anthony Mandler-directed clip also tease Lana looking like Marilyn Monroe, but leave A$AP Rocky as JFK a mystery. By Jocelyn Vena Lana Del Ray Photo: Lana Del Ray is doing her best Jackie O in a new still from her “National Anthem” video . She’s got the former First Lady’s look down to the very last detail, including that pillbox hat. In one still from the clip, posted on her Facebook , Lana sits in the back of a convertible, in her little suit, her veiled hat and her hair down. She looks back, possibly in the moments after President Kennedy, who will be portrayed by A$AP Rocky in the video, gets shot on that famous November day in 1963. Her eyes are covered with some of the lyrics from the track, “Red white blue in the skies,” and more lyrics, “Summer’s in the air/ And baby heaven’s in your eyes,” are scrolled across the bottom of the photo. In another still from the Anthony Mandler-directed video, Lana stands in a long white gown at some sort of presidential affair. She looks a bit more Marilyn Monroe in this shot, channeling the actress’ look when she famously sang “Happy Birthday” to President Kennedy. This time, the lyric “Tell me I’m your National Anthem” is written on the photo. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Lana revealed why she wanted play Jacqueline Kennedy and recreate that historical time in her 10-minute video. “Every so often, I top what I’ve done, and this video is definitely the most beautiful thing I’ve ever done,” she said. “I wrote a treatment for me and A$AP Rocky, because I just thought he’d be really perfect to star in it. … I love it.” As for her better half in the video, the MC shared some details in a separate interview, noting that it might take a few years for people to really digest what they’ve committed to celluloid. “We did a video together … some swag sh–,” he said. “I play JFK, she plays Jackie O. Some cool, trippy sh–, some really 2015 sh–. People gonna get it in like three years, and that’s the whole purpose of it.” With no word on when the video will drop, fans will have to wait a little longer to see A$AP do his best Kennedy. “National Anthem” is the latest single off Del Ray’s 2012 album, Born to Die . ‘The game is missing danger, electricity, and rock n roll!!!! Cash Money Limp Bizkit,’ Fred Durst Tweeted. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne and Fred Durst Photo: Kevin Winter/ Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images has made no secret of his affinity for rock and roll. The Cash Money MC loves strapping on a guitar and though his detour into rock on the 2010 album Rebirth didn’t click with fans as much as his hip-hop efforts, Weezy wasn’t shy about cranking up the amps and paying homage to the rap-rock fusion sound of the 1990s. So it kind of makes sense that he announced on Thursday that one of the icons of 90s nu-metal,
‘The Help’ star Viola Davis will likely help herself to a statuette on Sunday. By Amy Wilkinson Viola Davis in “The Help” Photo: DreamWorks The Oscars love nothing more than a role that allows an actress to a) portray a historical figure or b) completely transform herself physically. (And, lest we forget, some combination thereof, i.e. Charlize Theron’s chilling turn as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003’s “Monster”). This year’s Best Actress field is no exception, with four of the five nominees falling squarely into one of these categories. Representing real-life ladies we have Meryl Streep as first female British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady” and Michelle Williams as breathy blond bombshell Marilyn Monroe in “My Week With Marilyn.” In the transformation category is Rooney Mara, all pierced and tatted as punk-hacker Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” and Glenn Close playing a woman playing a man in the period drama “Albert Nobbs.” And the wildcard nominee? “The Help” star Viola Davis. Yet, despite her non-conformity, Davis may just be the lady going home Sunday night with Oscar. Can anyone top her? Here are our predictions for Best Actress. Who will win : The big-screen adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel has been riding a wave of accolades this awards season, notching several wins at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, including awards for Davis, co-star Octavia Spencer and the entire ensemble cast. (In fact, we’ve already predicted a win for Spencer in the Best Supporting Actress category too.) Despite Williams and Streep both scoring Golden Globes for their respective roles, we expect Davis triumph thanks to her moving portrayal of Southern maid Aibileen Clark in this racially charged, yet uplifting film. Who should win : Davis is a strong contender to be sure, but going on sheer dedication alone, the trophy should go to relative newcomer Mara. The girl pierced her nipple for goodness’ sake! Mara has so embodied Stieg Larsson’s embattled heroine that we’ve been having a hard time separating her on-screen persona from her off-screen, as she continues to walk carpets sporting Salander’s raven locks and even darker wardrobe. Sure, the film didn’t perform as well as many had hoped, but it had nothing to do with Mara’s gritty performance. As it turns out, we’re a fool for a good transformation role too.
