Drake Spits A Freestyle In Exclusive ‘Better Than Good Enough’ Outtake

Drizzy rips a verse about fines wines and fake women during a visit to New Orleans radio station. By Mawuse Ziegbe Drake Photo: MTV News A 20-something rap phenom with an eye for the finer things, Drake is finding that when it comes to the ladies, not all of them share his Champagne taste. In an exclusive outtake from the documentary “Drake: Better Than Good Enough,” the Young Money MC visits New Orleans radio station Q 93.3, where he spits a freestyle, going in about everything from finances to females. “Why has every woman never dined here before?/ Am I the only 23-year-old wine connoisseur?” Drizzy wonders, as the room erupts with rowdy howls co-signing the hip-hop star’s rhyming skills. The full-length doc depicts the months before Drake dropped his hotly anticipated debut, Thank Me Later. But the freestyle sequence showcases one of the qualities that has made Drake a breakout star: his charismatic, hyper-informed flow. The outtake also captures the heightened buzz that preceded his first major-label offering, as the radio DJ coaxes the star into giving “a preview” of the kinds of bars to come on Later. Ready to flex his lyrical chops, the scene opens with Drizzy animatedly accepting the challenge. A focused Drake even refuses an instrumental (“No beat,” he star insists), spitting a verse a capella. “Please make your long story shorter/ Time is of the essence for the king of second quarter/ Numbers do the talking/ I have nothing for reporters/ I just hope we make these flights and don’t get held up at the border,” Drake spits. The verse demonstrates his trademark verbal agility (“Jumpin’ to the top/ This my leap year”); his witty humor (“I got new girls / But none of they love is for certain/ And call old girls/ But none of they numbers are workin’); and his easy candor (“They ain’t rootin’ for me/ They ain’t clappin’ for me/ I’m only saying can somebody just be happy for me?”). As the station dissolve into hollers of approval, Drake’s Young Money associate Mack Maine tosses out a challenge to any rappers ready to step to the Toronto MC. “I got a mil’ on Drake!” Maine shouts gleefully. “Against any of y’all! — old school, new school, need to know this!” MTV followed Drake in the weeks leading up to the release of his new LP, Thank Me Later. The “Drake: Better Than Good Enough” documentary will re-air on MTV Saturday at 12 p.m. and 9 p.m., Sunday at 9 a.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. on MTV2. Ne-Yo Expecting A Child

Singer Ne-Yo is expecting his first child. The baby is due in January. By Mawuse Ziegbe Ne-Yo Photo: Getty Images It appears that life is imitating art for singer/songwriter Ne-Yo. The R&B gentleman, who guested on 50 Cent’s 2009 hit “Baby by Me,” recently confirmed that he and his girlfriend, Monyetta Shaw, are expecting a child together. “I am 30, and I do have my first child on the way, and I’m very, very, very excited about that,” the hitmaker told Ebony magazine. The star also revealed that the new addition to his family is due in January. “It’s a New Year’s baby,” the singer told the magazine. The dad-to-be said he doesn’t know the baby’s gender yet because the little one was curled up in the womb during the first ultrasound, apparently making it hard to determine the sex. The star jokingly called out his unborn child, saying the baby was “stubborn.” However, the child appears to be taking after his or her mother, because, the singer added, “They didn’t get that one from me.” A rep for Ne-Yo also confirmed to MTV News that the star is expecting. While this is the singer’s first baby, this is not the star’s first brush with fatherhood. Ne-Yo’s former girlfriend reportedly gave birth to a child, Chimere, who the star once claimed as his own until he later learned he was not the boy’s biological father. Ne-Yo and his ex were reportedly in litigation over the matter. “I’m not allowed to talk about it, and I’m not allowed to see [Chimere],” Ne-Yo told USA Today in 2008. However, the star did seem very open to the idea of raising children and told the paper, “I’ve been thinking a lot about kids lately.” He even revealed that he wanted “a girl and a boy” and appeared ready to assume the role of a protective dad. “When the first guy comes to my door asking for my daughter, I might end up going to jail,” Ne-Yo said. “I just don’t know how I’ll handle that.” The impending pitter-patter of little feet is not the only thing the singer has on his plate; the star is also preparing to drop his latest album, Libra Scale. The star told Ebony, “I’m just in a really good place right now.” Share your well-wishes for the father-to-be in the comments! Related Artists Ne-Yo

‘Dogtooth’: Home School, By Kurt Loder

The kids aren’t all right. No wonder. “Dogtooth” Photo: Boo Productions “Dogtooth” is an art movie from Greece that’s so open-ended, you wonder if whatever it is it’s supposed to mean has dribbled out the back door. For the first 20 minutes or so, anyway. Then a story begins to gather shape, and the picture, already strange, becomes very creepy. Three nameless siblings, two girls and a boy, apparently in their late teens, live in a remotely located house with their father (Christos Stergioglou) and mother (Michele Valley). In the sizable grounds outside, there are palm trees and a swimming pool and a high wooden fence that rings the entire property. The kids, we eventually realize, have never been allowed to venture beyond this barrier. Inside, there’s a television set, but it’s used only to show boring family videotapes shot by their father. There’s one telephone, but it’s hidden at the back of a shelf — the kids have never seen it. Their days pass blandly. They are home-schooled by their mother in a most unusual way. Her vocabulary instruction imparts the information that a carbine is a bird and a zombie is a little yellow flower. Occasionally, the father has his son (Hristos Passalis) and two daughters (Aggeliki Papoulia and Mary Tsoni) get down on all fours and bark like dogs. The father is a boss at a nondescript factory. We see him arriving home in his Mercedes with an employee, a young woman named Christina (Anna Kalaitzidou), who has been blindfolded for the drive. The father takes her into his son’s bedroom and leaves. Christina and the son shed their clothes and have perfunctory sex. (The sex and the full-frontal nudity in the movie have the arousing quality of a calculus lecture.) When they’re done, the father takes Christina back to the factory. The movie offers small islands of incident. When a cat — an alien creature — finds its way onto the property one day, the son responds violently. (PETA people will want to avert their eyes at this point.) The siblings explore each other’s bodies in a bathtub, wordlessly, as if tracing the shapes on statues. When Christina, on another of her regular visits, sneaks into the bedroom of one of the girls, offering a small gift, the girl says, “What do I have to lick?” Is there any escape from this bizarre existence? Theoretically, yes. The children have been told they can leave home as soon as their canine teeth — their dogteeth — fall out. The kids don’t realize that this means never. Not in any natural way. The story is inscrutable. Is it an indictment of home schooling? Of middle-class paranoia? Of what? The distinctively talented director, Giorgos Lanthimos, offers no answers, or even suggestions. He observes the family with placid objectivity. When someone in a facial closeup is doing something with his hands, we don’t see it. When a character stands up out of frame, the camera stays put. (The shots are beautifully composed.) Even at the end, when we’re hoping for a jailbreak moment, the director leaves us hanging in itchy uncertainty. The movie is irritating and disturbing, and when it’s over, we want to put it behind us. It just won’t stay there. Where Were You When Michael Jackson Died? Drake, Game Remember

B.o.B., Flo Rida, J. Cole also speak about Jackson’s untimely death one year ago today. By Mawuse Ziegbe Michael Jackson Photo: Al Messerschmidt Archive / Getty Images The death of Michael Jackson a year ago today touched millions of people, including hip-hop stars who, like so many of us, grew up with his music. And like so many of us, they remember exactly where they were when reports of Jackson’s death first came in. Game, like many fans, was suspicious when he first heard that Jackson had passed away. “I was at the crib, didn’t believe it,” Game said. “[The news] came through in a text message and people are always pulling pranks on text messages. So I immediately turned on the news and they were saying he went into cardiac arrest.” Drake was more incredulous than suspicious. “When he passed, I was in Toronto. I remember, I saw my mom that night,” he said. “It was weird. It was somebody that you just don’t picture not being here. It’s Mike, you know?” Jackson’s untimely passing was doubly shocking because it occurred as he was just weeks away from beginning his sold-out This Is It run of concerts at London’s O2 Arena. “He looked like in A-1 shape and to hear that news, it was definitely devastating,” Flo Rida said. “He literally gave his life to entertainment. He couldn’t live a normal life because of that,” said rising MC J. Cole, referring to the intense fame the star grappled with for most of his life. “That’s how much he loved to do this.” With the indelible impact he left on music and pop culture, for many stars Jackson remains the final word when it comes to showstopping entertainment. As ATL’s B.o.B said, “His spirit and his music are so strong that he’s very much alive, still.” MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don’t miss the one-hour special “Michael Jackson’s Influence on Music,” airing tonight at 6:30 p.m. on MTV. Related Videos Remembering Michael Jackson – One Year Later

Fefe Dobson Goes After Cheating Ex in ‘Ghost’ Video — Check Out A Preview!

The Canadian rocker heats things up with a blazing mattress and lots of leather in her new video. By Mawuse Ziegbe Fefe Dobson Photo: MTV News Fefe Dobson does not play around when it comes to cheating boyfriends. The Canadian rocker goes after a loser ex in her new video “Ghost” after catching him making out with another girl. Although the ex tries to move on with his new relationship, Dobson doesn’t let up. “My video ‘Ghost’ is about me catching my man cheating and then me driving him crazy ’cause I’m haunting him,” Dobson told MTV News. The clip features the star wailing at her former beau from his bedroom ceiling, rocking out on top of his convertible in a leather suit, and taunting him in front of a burning mattress. In the video, Dobson harasses her bad boy with the type of vengeful abandon that many wronged lovers dream of. However, Dobson said that doing the crazy-ex thing wasn’t easy. “There’s a scene where I’m standing in front of a burning bed. It was really burning — it wasn’t a green screen. I was like, ‘I’m not gonna do this!’ and I hear [the director] going, ‘Get in front of the bed!’ ” she recalled. “I didn’t want to do it but I did it. I didn’t, you know, get set on fire — which is important!” Even though he was brought in to make her life harder onscreen, Dobson said that filming with her “Ghost” boy toy was the easiest part of making the video. “He’s cute, so it was easy,” said Dobson. “It wasn’t that hard.” Check out the sneak peek video of Fefe Dobson’s “Ghost” and let us know what you think in the comments below! Kenny Wormald Lands Lead In ‘Footloose’ Remake

Hollywood newcomer and MTV ‘Dancelife’ alum snatches plum role after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford back out. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kenny Wormald Photo: IMDb A rising star with true dancing feet will step into the role of Ren McCormack in the upcoming remake of the ’80s hit “Footloose.” Dancer Kenny Wormald, who has appeared in videos for stars like Madonna and Prince and has hit the stage with Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, will bring his footwork to the big screen. Entertainment Weekly reports that the Boston native (who proudly touts his “Southie” accent in his MTV “Dancelife” bio ) beat out thousands for the chance to take on the role that launched Kevin Bacon’s career in the ’80s. However, this isn’t Wormald’s first Hollywood gig: The dancer has also appeared in “You Got Served” and “Clerks 2.” Joining Wormald in the flick will be actor Dennis Quaid as Reverend Moore and Julianne Hough from “Dancing With the Stars” as Ariel. “Hustle & Flow” writer Craig Brewer penned the updated screenplay and will also direct. The choreography will be helmed by Jamal Sims, who worked on Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour. Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron, who has hoofed his way to stardom in musicals like “Hairspray” and “High School Musical,” was originally slated for the role as Ren McCormack but later backed out . Reports said the star wanted to take on more serious roles. Chace Crawford also dropped out of the remake because filming would have conflicted with his “Gossip Girl” production schedule. Filmmakers already have high hopes for Wormald. “When we discovered Kevin Bacon in 1984, we were both excited and gratified — and also knew the chances of ever duplicating that effort was a million-to-one shot,” producer Craig Zadan, who worked on the original and is back for the remake, said in a statement . “Decades later, Kenny Wormald proved history could repeat itself.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Jerry Seinfeld Calls Lady Gaga A ‘Jerk’ After Mets Game Behavior

Gaga took refuge from paparazzi in Seinfeld’s private box at Citi Field. By Mawuse Ziegbe Jerry Seinfeld Photo: Getty Images Jerry Seinfeld is calling out Lady Gaga for her crude conduct at a New York Mets game after the diva took refuge from paparazzi in his private box at Citi Field. Gaga stirred up headlines when she appeared at the June 10 baseball game in a befuddling outfit (a white coat draped over a black bikini) and held court from her front-row seat. When fans and photogs noticed her presence, they began snapping shots of the pop star. Gaga was not in a pic-taking mood, however, and started giving the flashbulbs the finger and moved to a private box to escape the attention. Turns out, the box belongs to Seinfeld. “You give people the finger and you get upgraded? Is that the world we’re living in now?” Seinfeld sounded off in an interview with WFAN radio, the New York Post reports. “This woman is a jerk. I hate her. I can’t believe they put her in my box, which I paid for.” Seinfeld also added that he didn’t know that the pop star usurped his box until he showed up later on for a night game. “I don’t know what these young people think or how they promote their careers,” said Seinfeld, slamming the diva’s rowdy antics. “I’m not one of these all-publicity-is-good people. People talk about ‘You need exposure’ — you could die of exposure.” While she hasn’t responded to Seinfeld’s scolding just yet, Gaga did take to her Twitter page a day after the public got wind of her rambunctious behavior. “A middle finger is more New York than a corporate ambush. I bleed for my hometown, and I’d die for my fans.” What do you think of Seinfeld’s harsh words toward Gaga? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Jerry Seinfeld Lady Gaga
