Could this “unnamed” opponent be Manny Pacquiao??? “Money” Mayweather was supposed to turn himself in yesterday to begin his 90-day jail sentence, however… A judge agreed Friday to postpone a jail sentence against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a Las Vegas domestic violence case, allowing the undefeated boxer to make a Cinco de Mayo fight against an as-yet unnamed opponent. The ruling by Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa to allow Mayweather to begin his 90-day stint on June 1 came with the fighter’s manager and supporters, including rap star Lil’ Kim and R&B artist Ray J, in the courtroom as a defense lawyer cited the economic boost that Las Vegas could get from the bout. Mayweather, meanwhile, waited in the lobby of a nearby building to hear whether Saragosa would make him immediately begin serving the three-month sentence she imposed when the boxing champion pleaded guilty last month to a charge that he attacked his ex-girlfriend while two of their children watched in September 2010. Saragosa said she was swayed by the last-minute plea from Mayweather’s lawyer, Richard Wright, to let Mayweather postpone jail time so he can train to fight on the May 5 date his promoters promised months ago to pay-per-view television and the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Wright said Mayweather wasn’t trying to avoid the sentence, and emphasized the potential economic benefit of attracting fight fans and hotel guests to Las Vegas for a Mayweather fight. The lawyer estimated that Mayweather’s last seven fights in Las Vegas generated a combined $1 billion in business to the community. He projected the economic boost from a May 5 fight at more than $100 million. Guess being a part of the #TheMoneyTeam has its’ advantages… “Mr. Mayweather has an obligation to this court,” the judge responded. But “given the fact that Mr. Mayweather has these obligations, I am going to grant your request.” Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich protested that Mayweather should have to serve his sentence “just like anyone else.” Saragosa ordered Mayweather to immediately enroll in a yearlong domestic violence counseling program, and noted that under her original sentence, Mayweather faces an additional three months in jail if he doesn’t comply. Floyd Mayweather is undefeated in the boxing ring. But the multiple-time, multiple-weight class champion just lost a battle in court: a judge sentenced him to 90 days in prison. Mayweather was arrested in September of 2010 after ex-girlfriend Josie Harris, the mother of his children, accused the athlete of hitting her in the head in front of the former couple’s kids. Following the incident, this Grand Rapids, Michigan native agreed to a deal with prosecutors in which he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence in exchange for lawyers dropping any felony charges. He also pleaded no contest to a pair of misdemeanor harassment charges stemming from an alleged threat to beat up his kids. Mayweather must begin serving his sentence on January 3. Floyd was sentenced to 6 months in jail, but 3 months of that sentence was suspended. He also gets 3 days credit for time he has already served. Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated opponent Victor Ortiz last night in Las Vegas in a fight that controversially allowed him to keep his undefeated record. Ortiz attempted a headbutt on Mayweather and the fight was briefly stopped by referee Joe Cortez, but when Ortiz went to apologize a second time to Floyd, Flyod caught him off guard and knocked him out. Floyd Mayweather has trouble with anger. And security cameras. Last month, surveillance video outside the boxer’s Las Vegas home caught him berating a guard who dared to ask for his identification. Now, TMZ has obtained a tape that may prove even more damaging to Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather Attack Aftermath In mid-September, the athlete was charged with four felonies in connection to allegedly assaulting ex-girlfriend Josie Harris. The video above depicts Harris being wheeled away on a stretcher, following a confrontation in which she claims Mayweather punched her in the face. A September 9 police report states that the duo’s kids escaped the house and ran to a guard station. You can actually see them doing so here. You can also see cops arriving at the scene and, about 15 minutes into the video, Harris clutching her head and being taken to an ambulance. Mayweather is due in court on January 24 and has been ordered to stay away from his children until then.
