Why Do We Call This Holy Week?

Read more here:

At this season of the year, we celebrate the grandeur of God’s creation in the beauty of the flowers and the return of the robins. We clasp our loved ones in rituals of food and drink, laughter and embrace. Some of us will also sit in services of silence, music, and sacred readings. We will contemplate the mystery of the holy and the sanctity of all life. In the Christian calendar, yesterday was Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. During this week Christians are asked to reflect on the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross, an event that took place nearly two millennia ago at a place which still remains the epicenter of religious and political violence today. By lunar coincidence, this week also marks, on Tuesday, the festival of Pesah, or Passover, the most celebrated Jewish holiday of the year. Passover commemorates God’s deliverance of the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt. Jesus had gone to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover with his disciples when he was caught in the web of events that led to his death. While most Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah, the New Testament weaves the central events of this week into one overarching story of redemptive history. As St. Paul put it, “For Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed” (1 Corinthians 5:7). To those who would reduce the meaning of this week to a mere fable connoting existential truth, Christians say: “What you call myth that is history!” and, conversely, “What you call history that is a myth!” The myth of human self-sufficiency, the illusion that the ebb and flow of nature’s passions are all we need to build a human life upon, the fantastic hoax that lasting moral order in the world can be derived from the will to power or political ingenuity alone It is the fact that something happened back then and there, in space and in time, something so shattering that the grinding wheels of fate were stopped by it and death is now no longer allowed to have the final word. The Secret Of Oz

It is commonly known in economics academia that The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 is loaded with powerful symbols of monetary reform which were the core of the Populist movement and the 1896 and 1900 presidental bids of Populist Democrat William Jennings Bryan. The yellow brick road (gold standard), the Scarecrow (farmers), the Tin Man (industrial workers), the Wicked Witch of the West (Cleveland banker J.D. Rockefeller) and the Wicked Witch of the East (NY banker J.P.Morgan), the Emerald City of Oz (greenback money), the illusory power of the Wizard in the capitol city (who monopolized power through deceit), even Dorothy’s silver slippers (changed to ruby slippers for the color movie version -symbols of Baum’s and Bryan’s belief that adding silver coin to gold coin would provide much needed money to a depression-strapped, 1890s America). Oz is a virtual forest of monetary reform symbolism, done by someone extremely well versed in the Populist monetary reform goals of the period (Baum was a newspaperman and author) – goals which have never changed – they are still valid today, they are needed now more than then. Oz author L. Frank Baum’s symbols represent the solution to relieve the growing economic hardship here in America and the rest of the world. 2009 marks the 70th anniversary of the 1939 MGM release of the The Wizard of Oz movie which has impressed audiences for all those years, imprinting Baum’s cryptic monetary reform symbols on the minds of millions. Money Masters authors Pat Carmack and Bill Still came to the conclusion in late 2008 that now is the time to explain their meaning to the public in a video – the symbols are well known, their meaning is not, yet they hold the key to solving our economic crisis. The familiarity of the Oz symbols to the public makes their explanation a potentially powerful weapon against our modern witches and wizards. So Money Masters Director Bill Still hit the road once again, interviewed experts familiar with the Oz symbolism, and the result is the fascinating new video Secret of Oz. http://www.secretofoz.com/ added by: rodstradamus

Norah Specifies What Kind Of Butts Boehner Likes

The fall-out from Lazy-Gate continues.  After rolling a clip of John Boehner rebutting Joe Scarborough’s assertion that the GOP House leader is lazy, Norah O’Donnell got into the act, with some [presumably] unintentional humor. Seconding Scarborough’s suggestion that Boehner is known to hang out in bars, O’Donnell declared on today’s Morning Joe that: “There’s been a reputation that John Boehner likes his butts and he likes his booze.” Realizing that her words lent themselves to more than one interpretation, Norah clarified . . . O’DONNELL: Meaning cigarette butts. Which in turn provoked a big round of belly-laughs on the Morning Joe set.

M.I.A. Says Justin Bieber’s Videos Are ‘More Offensive’ Than Her ‘Born Free’

‘I find the new Justin Bieber video more violent and more of an assault to my eyes …,’ M.I.A. told a British magazine. By James Montgomery M.I.A. Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images In the past month, M.I.A. has taken shots at Lady Gaga and, uh, the U.S. government . And now, she’s moved on to the next logical target: Justin Bieber. In the current issue of British music magazine NME , M.I.A. was asked about the meaning behind the controversial clip she made for her song “Born Free.” And rather than reveal her motivations, she seized the opportunity to rip the pint-size prince of pop, saying that the Bieb’s videos are “more offensive” than anything she’s ever done. “I find the new Justin Bieber video more violent and more of an assault to my eyes and senses than what I’ve made,” she joked to the mag. Perhaps not wanting to further draw the ire of Bieber Nation — which, truth be told, might be more powerful than the U.S. government at this point — she then changed the subject, saying that most people’s reactions to the “Born Free” video actually mystifies her … though, to be honest, she’s not exactly spending a lot of time thinking about it. “It baffles me that everyone seems to be obsessed with deciphering the meaning to it,” she said. “It baffles me in the same way as the Brick Lane riot for American Apparel leggings baffled me. We don’t know what the process is for this one is yet. I haven’t thought about it yet and I don’t want to have to.” In April, M.I.A. rankled another fervent fanbase — Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters — when she accused the pop star of stealing her looks from Grace Jones and Madonna and called her “a good mimic.” Related Artists M.I.A. Justin Bieber Is Not Smart

Perhaps Justin Bieber should spend more time studying the meaning of words and less time looking adorable. The teen icon appeared on a New Zealand television show this week and was asked if his last name meant “basketball” in German. In what , Justin asked?!? In German , the host insisted, even showing Bieber the question so he could see it written out. Justin’s response? Uhhh, I don’t know what that means. We don’t say that in America. Just something to think about, ladies, the next time you cause a riot just because Bieber is in the vicinity… What Does That Mean?
