You’ve got mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, everybody’s friends in that league,” she said. Samuels claimed that naming the airport after Winfrey would not align with their naming policy. Despite the obstacles, Councilwoman Hurt is continuing to push for the name change and will do whatever it takes to bring her vision to fruition. “It’s Oprah. Nashville is in a very unique position to be able to offer that type of recognition to someone that’s very deserving,” said Hurt in a statement, according to the news outlet. “I think it’s a grand opportunity for us to recognize someone of Oprah’s stature.” Hurt also added that the city of Nashville needs to do a better job of acknowledging the contributions of notable Black figures. She was at the forefront of getting the Metro Council to rename a part of Charlotte Avenue after Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oprah Winfrey has deep ties to Nashville. She graduated from East High School and then went on to earn her degree from Tennessee State University. She also launched her career in television in Nashville. The decision will be left up to the Nashville Airport Authority board. News about the possible renaming of the airport comes around the same time of the unveiling of President Barack H. According to TMZ , actor Stoney Westmoreland of Disney’s Andi Mack was arrested in Utah on Friday for arranging sex with a person he believed was 13-years-old. He was charged with enticing a minor by internet or text, and dealing in materials harmful to a minor. Reports state that Westmoreland contacted the child via an app used for sex, he repeatedly asked for sex acts and nude photos. The Utah State Police and the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force popped Stoney as he was attempting to use a ride-share app to pick up person he believed to be 13.
Natalie Portman recently spoke about what she perceived to be double-standards in the entertainment industry. After she cited one early 2000s star as an example, Jessica Simpson accused Natalie of slut-shaming her . Now, Natalie is clarifying her words — and apologizing. After seeing Jessica Simpson’s response, Natalie Portman replied on Instagram. “Thank you for your words,” Natalie begins. That is a very good way to start. Natalie continues: “I completely agree with you.” Both women agree “that a woman should be allowed to dress however she likes and behave however she likes and not be judged.” Natalie explains that she should have been more clear about her meaning. “I only meant to say I was confused,” Natalie writes. She says this “as a girl coming of age in the public eye around the same time.” The late ’90s and early 2000s were a pretty distinct era. Natalie explains that she was confused “by the media’s mixed messages about how girls and women were supposed to behave.” Then she makes an explicit apology. “I’m sorry for any hurt my words may have caused,” Natalie writes. Even if your words were misconstrued, it’s good to apologize anyway. “I have nothing but respect for your talent and your voice,” she affirms. Natalie writes that Jessica Simpson’s voice is one “that you use to encourage and empower women all over the globe.” That’s true. So, here’s the line that got Natalie into hot water int he first place. “I remember being a teenager,” she said. “And there was Jessica Simpson on the cover of a magazine.” She noted that Jessica was “saying ‘I’m a virgin’ while wearing a bikini.” “And,” Natalie expressed. “I was confused.” “Like, I don’t know what this is trying to tell me as a woman, as a girl,” Natalie explained. Wearing a bikini doesn’t mean that one is having sex, but it definitely is using sex appeal. Jessica Simpson posted a lengthy reply to Natalie’s words. “The industry we work in often tries to define us and box us in,” Jessica noted. “However, I was taught to be myself and honor the different ways all women express themselves,” she continued. “Which is why I believed then — and I believe now — that being sexy in a bikini and being proud of my body are not synonymous with having sex,” she wrote. Jessica continued: “I have made it my practice to not shame other women for their choices.” That is a very good practice. So, who’s the bad guy here? No one — except perhaps for the elements within the entertainment industry that try to steamroll over women, their images, and their words. That era was a memorable one. Very sexual images of skantily clad young women were allowed — but overtly sexual statements were frowned upon. Britney Spears danced with her midriff exposed, but her song lyrics were extremely PG. “Email My Heart” is not a euphemism for sex. As Natalie was pointing out, beautiful women were expected to express ideas such as chastity and virginity even while marketing themselves through sex appeal. It’s a definite mixed message, one that uses women to please male audiences while making demands on the behavior of young women at the same time. As Jessica points out, this was often not by choice. Natalie never intended to call out or shame Jessica, just to cite her as an example. Hopefully, things are much clearer now. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are happily married and expecting, and the Royal Family has never looked so happy . But Harry and Meghan aren’t entirely content and are itching to leave their current residence. Not only are their accommodations too small, but Harry wants to step out of his brother’s shadow. RadarOnline reports that Harry and Meghan are eager to move. “Harry and Meghan want to move,” an insider reveals. They know that their family is growing, the source says, “and need more space.” We know that it’s tempting to claim that they’re being greedy or absurd by demanding more space. But as we describe their current residence — Nottingham Cottage, on the grounds of Kensington Palace — you’ll understand why. “But,” the insider says. “They don’t want to live next door to William and Catherine.” We so often tend to imagine the royal family living within a massive, spacious palace. But Nottingham cottage is just that. From the description, it sounds like a starter home. Harry and Meghan’s current residence has only two bedrooms for a household that’s about to have three people. (Sure, newlyweds may share a bed, and many married couples continue to share a bed, but they’ll want a guest room) The cottage also has two reception rooms — so, you know, normal rooms. That’s fine. RadarOnline describes the cottage as having one single bathroom. That’s barely enough for two people. They need to upgrade. Another impetus for their upcoming move is so that Harry and William can take a step apart. “They are planning a formal division of their joint royal household,” the source notes. “Which is based at Kensington Palace.” “And,” the insider continues, they are planning “the creation of separate courts to reflect their increasingly different responsibilities.” We’ve reported on this previously. The brothers have grown up and don’t want to step on each other’s toes. “The brothers have leant on each other and looked after each other since their mother died,” the source affirms. “But now they have their own families,” the insider explains. “They no longer rely on each other as before.” Now that William and Harry are adults, they don’t need to be literal neighbors. “They will soon have separate offices and separate lives,” the source explains. “So it would make sense for them to live further afield.” And Harry and Meghan’s options are broader than some might imagine. “There is no reason why Prince Harry and Meghan’s London home has to be at Kensington Palace,” the insider notes. “There are plenty of other options,” the source adds. “Including,” the insider says. “Using their own money to buy their own place.” Of course, some believe that it’s really Meghan and Kate who are tearing the princes apart . “Kate and Meghan live very different lives,” the source notes. Certainly. They’re both Duchesses, but they are of course different people. “And,” the insider continues. “That is likely to become more marked over time.” In other words, Meghan and Kate socialize differently, focus upon different charitable endeavors, and otherwise spend their time differently. There was a time when royal brides were permitted to do little save produce heirs. Good for them for living their own lives. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are hot topics. Unfortunately, some — like Meghan’s irredeemably vile sister, Samantha — seem eager to cash in on that by painting Meghan as a monster. Whether it’s rumors of Meghan feuding with Kate or allegations about Meghan’s diva behavior , people love to talk. We know that some may be tempted to believe that Meghan is forcing Harry to change his lifestyle. He’s a grown man and a prince. He’ll soon be a father. We all know that reality TV shows rarely depict anything that could be accurately described as reality. From the Teen Moms to the Real Housewives, just about everyone who's appeared on a long-running reality series has complained at one point or another about being the victim of a bad edit. It's a necessary evil, as producers are tasked with the job of crafting narratives out of raw footage and creating heroes and villains, while in real life, most of us are somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. The latest (alleged) victim of this trend is Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, who claims his implied affair with “Jewish Barbie” on last week's Jersey Shore Family Vacation was concocted by showrunners in an effort to provide viewers with the drama they crave. Take a look: 1. Ariana’s Parents Ron and Jen have certainly experienced some ups and downs over the course of their relationship, but they remain committed to making it work. 2. Rough Patches Ronnie and Jen’s impassioned confrontations have made for some of the most memorable drama on this season of Shore. 3. What Happens In Vegas … For example, who could forget Jen’s explosive — and unexpected — visit to Ron while the Shore gang was partying in Vegas? 4. What a Drag And of course, there was the incident in which Jen allegedly dragged Ronnie with her car — a confrontation that both sides now say was exaggerated by the media. 5. Even So … Jen has made no secret of the fact that she’s got a bit of a temper (making her a perfect fit for Ron), so fans have been encouraging Magro to tread lightly this season. 6. Enter Jewish Barbie So when Angelina’s friend Lindsay, aka Jewish Barbie, entered the shore-less Shore house and began showing an interest in Ron, there was widespread concern for Magro’s well-being.
