MSNBC Suspends Joe Scarborough over Political Donations [Media]

MSNBC, just to put itself on the record as “consistent,” has suspended Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough for the same reason it suspended Keith Olbermann : Political donations without advance approval. Interestingly, Politico, where Scarborough writes a column, instigated the suspension. More

Mel Gibson Wants Sole Custody of Daughter

After watching Oksana Grigorieva on Larry King last night, Mel Gibson didn’t issue any sort of rebuttal. Rather, he sought sole custody of their daughter, Lucia. The actor’s lawyers will appear in court to ask the judge in his custody war to award him sole custody of baby Lucia in response to Oksana’s sitdown on CNN. Team Mel alleges that Oksana’s false and derogatory statements to the media show she is not acting in the best interests of Lucia and should cost her custody. MEL VS. OKSANA : With new barbs traded every day, this is one of the ugliest custody feuds we’ve ever seen, and the scary thing is that it’s only beginning . In addition to attempting to take custody from Oksana Grigorieva, Mel’s lawyers will ask Judge Scott Gordon to award her visitation, but only with a monitor.

Erin Barry and Tony Parker: Inside Their Sexting and Eva Longoria’s Revenge

Eva Longoria was devastated when she discovered her husband, Tony Parker, had been trading sexual texts with Erin Barry , the wife of his former teammate. Erin and Brent Barry had been close friends with Eva and Tony at one point, making the betrayal even harder on the Desperate Housewives star, reports say. That’s why she decided to blindside him by filing for divorce from Parker before they decided to take the breakup news public, according to Radar . Point, Eva! BARRY BAD CALL : Never text dirty with your teammate’s wife . “They were working out the details. They didn’t want it to become a messy divorce,” says a source. “Then Eva got a little revenge and didn’t tell Tony she was filing and dropped the papers on him, catching him off balance for the media blitz.” While some reports say the exchanges between Tony and Erin Barry were “innocent,” conflicting stories call the sext-messaging flirtatious, sexual and “over the line.” Erin Barry is also in the midst of a divorce from Brent. It’s unclear if the relationship with Parker ever became physical, but it sure sent Eva into a tailspin. Parker apparently claims it never progressed beyond texting. “Look, any wife is going to be upset with what Tony did, but he swears the relationship with Erin stopped there and they never had sex,” a source tells Radar . “And Tony also says the text messages ended months ago.” Doesn’t sound so minor when coupled with reports that Longoria herself not only filed for divorce out of nowhere, but leaked the story of Tony’s infidelity. “Suddenly, Eva Longoria not only filed the papers but then went public with Tony’s relationship with Erin Barry. He was surprised, to say the least.” Interestingly, initial reports of the couple’s demise said that Tony filed divorce papers in Texas. This was in fact the plan, but he never did so. “He held off,” the source said. “It had been discussed but then was abandoned. Next thing he knew she surprised him by filing on Wednesday.” Take that! Eva issued a brief statement confirming the split after the fact, and her reason for feeling burned is, honestly, quite understandable. “Eva is furious that Tony started a relationship with a woman she knew, a woman they went out with as couple friends,” says the insider. “She felt betrayed by Tony and this is how she decided to get a small measure of revenge.” Well played, Eva Longoria. Well. Played .

The War on Terror is a Hoax

Due to the recent national outrage against the allegations of abuses by the agents of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), it's time to remember what the so-called “War on Terror” really is. The War on Terror is a Hoax By Paul Craig Roberts According to US government propaganda, terrorist cells are spread throughout America, making it necessary for the government to spy on all Americans and violate most other constitutional protections. Among President Bush’s last words as he left office was the warning that America would soon be struck again by Muslim terrorists. If America were infected with terrorists, we would not need the government to tell us. We would know it from events. As there are no events, the US government substitutes warnings in order to keep alive the fear that causes the public to accept pointless wars, the infringement of civil liberty, national ID cards, and inconveniences and harassments when they fly. The most obvious indication that there are no terrorist cells is that not a single neocon has been assassinated. I do not approve of assassinations, and am ashamed of my country’s government for engaging in political assassination. The US and Israel have set a very bad example for al Qaeda to follow. The US deals with al Qaeda and Taliban by assassinating their leaders, and Israel deals with Hamas by assassinating its leaders. It is reasonable to assume that al Qaeda would deal with the instigators and leaders of America’s wars in the Middle East in the same way. Today every al Qaeda member is aware of the complicity of neoconservatives in the death and devastation inflicted on Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Gaza. Moreover, neocons are highly visible and are soft targets compared to Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. Neocons have been identified in the media for years, and as everyone knows, multiple listings of their names are available online. Neocons do not have Secret Service protection. Dreadful to contemplate, but it would be child’s play for al Qaeda to assassinate any and every neocon. Yet, neocons move around freely, a good indication that the US does not have a terrorist problem. If, as neocons constantly allege, terrorists can smuggle nuclear weapons or dirty bombs into the US with which to wreak havoc upon our cities, terrorists can acquire weapons with which to assassinate any neocon or former government official. Yet, the neocons, who are the Americans most hated by Muslims, remain unscathed. The “war on terror” is a hoax that fronts for American control of oil pipelines, the profits of the military-security complex, the assault on civil liberty by fomenters of a police state, and Israel’s territorial expansion. added by: maasanova

Bozell Denounces O’Keefe’s ‘Ugly, Dishonest and Filthy’ Stunt

The following is NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center (MRC) founder Brent Bozell’s statement regarding news of James O’Keefe’s sting operation attempt to embarrass CNN. The MRC unequivocally denounces James O’Keefe for his attempted assault on CNN. It isn’t just childish and immature; it’s ugly, dishonest and filthy. There is no place in the conservative movement for this type of behavior and that’s exactly what I warned about in a commentary piece I submitted to CNN.com just two days ago. “Could the Citizen Journalist abuse the public trust?” I wrote in this piece that should run in the next few days. “Hypothetically, of course. Conservatives must all guard against this. Let there be scrutiny, by all means.” And I repeat: there must be scrutiny. Bottom line: We want nothing to do with O’Keefe or his dirty antics.

Journos Slam Liberal ‘Pro-Israel’ Group for Lying About Soros Money

You know things are bad when a liberal organization loses the journalists. On Friday, the Washington Times reported that the dovish “pro-Israel” group J Street had taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from controversial liberal philanthropist George Soros, after the organization had denied for years that Soros was a donor. But instead of ‘fessing up immediately to its true funding sources, a panicked J Street public relations team kept misleading the media in the hours before the Washington Times story broke – and appeared to anger some formerly-sympathetic reporters along the way. “A set of half-truths, non-truths and ambiguities from J Street lead a reasonable person to conclude that the group tried to conceal that George Soros has been one of its largest donors for years, and to falsely claim that it had been ‘open’ about those donations over the past three years,” wrote The Atlantic reporter Chris Good on Friday, noting that J Street officials had lied to him earlier that day. Aware that the Washington Times story was about to be published, J Street had contacted The Atlantic’s Good on Friday morning and offered him an exclusive on the group’s growing “fundraising momentum.” A spokesperson for J Street told Good that the group accepted donations from Soros, and that it had always been open about this source of funding. Good initially wrote a favorable article on the organization’s uptick in donations, but after reading the Washington Times story he issued a massive correction and admitted that J Street had misled him that very morning. “J Street also seemed to distort the fact that it received a large contribution from a donor in Hong Kong. Some of this happened on the phone with me earlier today,” Good wrote. Veteran liberal reporter James Besser, who is one of the most influential and well-respected journalists in Jewish media, also had some harsh criticism for the organization. “I was one of the many journalists who asked [J Street] the question [about Soros funding] – and received in return something significantly less than the truth. Okay, it was a lie,” wrote Besser in a stinging rebuke of J Street in The Jewish Week. “[T]here’s no way this doesn’t sow mistrust among commentators and reporters who write and speak about J Street, and who were repeatedly misled by its officials. J Street sought to create a climate of trust with a press corps that was being spun heavily by its opponents; this news undoes a lot of that effort.” The Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s Washington bureau chief Ron Kampeas, who regularly covers J Street, also echoed Besser’s critique. “On J Street, Jim Besser said it,” wrote Kampeas on his blog. “Sometimes, you wanna write something, but someone else says it just right.” J Street publicly denied to the media for years that it received money from Soros, who is a vocal anti-Zionist and a controversial figure in the Jewish community. J Street calls itself a grassroots “pro-Israel, pro-peace” organization that is funded by small donors in the Jewish community, though opponents have long claimed the group was tied to Soros and criticized it as anti-Israel. “We got tagged as having [Soros’] support without the benefit of actually getting funded!” J Street’s director Jeremy Ben-Ami told Moment magazine last March. In May, 2009, the Associated Press reported that “Ben-Ami says liberal philanthropist George Soros attended a 2006 meeting where ideas for such a group were discussed but bowed out immediately, worried his involvement would draw criticism.” And in a Jerusalem Post interview with Ben-Ami in April, 2009, Ruthie Blum Leibowitz reported that one of J Street’s “initial ideological supporters, George Soros, apparently backed out because he thought his reputation as a bankroller for groups that blame Israel and the US for the world’s ills might not be helpful to this particular organization.” On J Street’s own website, a section clarifying “Myths and Facts” about the group claimed that “George Soros very publicly stated his decision not to be engaged in J Street when it was launched – precisely out of fear that his involvement would be used against the organization…J Street’s Executive Director has stated many times that he would in fact be very pleased to have funding from Mr. Soros and the offer remains open to him to be a funder should he wish to support the effort.” The section, which was written in 2008, implied that Soros was not a donor. In a Huffington Post column on Saturday, Ben-Ami admitted that his group has taken money from Soros since Fall 2008.

Dowd: ‘Christine O’Donnell Better Hope They Don’t Bring Back Witch Burning’

As we get closer to the midterm elections, and liberals in the media foresee the Democrat destruction about to commence, the scorn being tossed at conservatives and Tea Party members is reaching a fevered pitch. New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd is a perfect example. Her “Slouching Toward Washington” piece published Sunday is nothing but a personal attack on those possibly interfering with her dream of a United States Socialist Republic. Even more despicably, she used HBO’s Bill Maher to assist her: Bill Maher continued his video torment of O’Donnell by releasing another old clip of her on his HBO show on Friday night, this time showing one in which she argued that “Evolution is a myth.” Maher shot back, “Have you ever looked at a monkey?” To which O’Donnell rebutted, “Why aren’t monkeys still evolving into humans?” The comedian has a soft spot for the sweet-faced Republican Senate candidate from Delaware, but as he told me on Friday, it’s “powerful stupid to think primate evolution could happen fast enough to observe it. That’s bacteria. “I find it so much more damaging than the witch stuff because she could be in a position to make decisions about scientific issues, like global warming and stem cells, and she thinks primate evolution can happen in a week and mice have human brains.” Isn’t   it quite telling that the Left has become so devoid of quotable thinkers amongst its political ranks that media members now have to seek the opinion of comedians? It shouldn’t be at all surprising that Democrats are in so much trouble when the most important liberal figures in the nation other than the President appear to be Maher, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert. But I digress: Sarah Palin will believe global warming is a hoax until she’s doing aerial hunting of wolves underwater. And in a 2009 clip, Sharron Angle, the Republican Senate candidate from Nevada, suggested that autism – a word she uttered with air quotes – is a phony rubric. She suggested that people are taking advantage of such maladies to get extra health benefits, adding that she doesn’t see why she should have to subsidize maternity benefits for other people either, especially since, as she said, she’s not having any more babies. Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, John Boehner, Jim DeMint and some Tea Party types don’t merely yearn for the country they idealize from the 1950s. They want to go back to the 1750s. Joe Miller, the Palin-blessed Republican nominee for Senate in Alaska, suggests that Social Security is unconstitutional because it wasn’t in the Constitution. The Constitution is a dazzling document, but do these originalists really think things haven’t changed since then? If James Madison beamed down now, he would no doubt be stunned at the idea that America had evolved so far but was hemming itself in by the strictest interpretation of his handiwork. He might even tweet about it. Actually, if Madison could see what has happened to this country since it began dabbling with socialism in the ’30s, he’d likely be far more shocked by that then the technological advancements that have occurred since he passed away. Most of our Founding Fathers would likely disapprove of Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, welfare, and ObamaCare, but folks like Dowd and her ilk don’t care. As for the Right wanting to take America back to the ’50s, from a political standpoint Dowd is close. As Tea Partiers have been saying for over eighteen months, the socialist policies enacted since the Depression are a large cause of this nation’s problems. They have negatively impacted us both financially and economically creating a constantly growing juggernaut that soaks more and more dollars from the system as it makes workers less motivated and our country less competitive in a global structure. If Dowd thinks many Americans are yearning for a bygone era when folks were rewarded to fend for themselves and their families rather than be penalized for their success she’s 100 percent right. But that’s not her   goal:  Evolution is no myth, but we may be evolving backward. Christine O’Donnell had better hope they don’t bring back witch burning. Not so, Ms. Dowd. Your side has had it their way for approaching 80 years. The leaders you admire promised a New Deal and a Great Society. Looking at the current landscape while one tries to gaze into the future, America today looks neither new nor great .  Of course, your side wants to blame all the problems on George W. Bush and the Republicans. Alas, it is you that are stuck in the past thinking that Depression Era concepts are today’s magic elixir. One more thing, Ms. Dowd: If James Madison were alive today, he’d be a Tea Partier.

George Will Schools This Week Panel on Tea Party Causing GOP Civil War

George Will on Sunday gave a much-needed education to the entire “This Week” panel about how the Tea Party is moving the GOP in a positive direction that could alter politics in this nation for years to come. As Christiane Amanpour and her Roundtable guests – Democrat strategist Donna Brazile, National Journal’s Ron Brownstein, and Republican strategist Matthew Dowd – all fretted about the so-called Civil War brewing in the GOP, Will was once again the voice of reason.  “At the beginning of the year, the question was, will the Tea Party people play nicely with others and will they obey the rules of politics? Who’s sort of not playing nicely?” asked Will. “Mr. Crist starts losing the primary to a Tea Party favorite Rubio. He suddenly discovers that he’s an independent and changes all his views overnight,” he continued. “Mrs. Murkowski loses a primary and suddenly discovers that she has a property right in her Senate seat and she’s going to run as a write-in. Senator Bennett thought of that in Utah, Senator Castle in Delaware is thinking of a write-in candidate. Who are the extremists?” (video follows with transcript and commentary):  DONNA BRAZILE, DEMOCRAT STRATEGIST: But, you know, the Republicans have a great story right now to tell. Excuse my voice. I was up watching the LSU game, clearly. But the — the problem I have — and the Republicans should — should understand — is that there’s still an eternal civil war going on within the Republican Party. In Washington state, in Delaware, and Colorado, many of the mainstream Republican candidates have not endorsed the Tea Party candidates. They’ve provided enthusiasm, they’ve provided a lot of energy and organization for the Republican Party, but we don’t know yet if the Republicans can heal those wounds and provide the kind of turnout they need to beat the Democrats. MATTHEW DOWD, REPUBLICAN STRATEGIST: I think that if you gave most Democrats truth serum and they said who’s place would they rather be in, they would pick the Republicans’ place in this year’s election as opposed to their own place in this year’s election. The problem I think for this class that’s coming in for the Republicans is for Mitch McConnell, who just talked to, is his ability to herd them is going to be like herding quail, because these folks are coming to Washington and think, “I’m not going to be part of this. I’m not going to listen to the leaders. I’m going to do what the voters want me to do,” and they’re not going to be — they’re not going to be acquiescent to what the leadership wants. CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, HOST: And that’s what I actually — I wanted to ask, because in today’s newspaper, there’s a quote by a senior Republican, you know, consultant that, after the elections, it’s going to be basically all-out war, a struggle for the heart and the soul of the Republican Party. You’re shaking your head. GEORGE WILL: They’ve been writing this story for eight months about what a problem the Tea Party is for the Republican Party. You know what the problem… (CROSSTALK) AMANPOUR: Well, Tom Ross basically told us that they lost because of that and they might lose. WILL: On balance across the country, the Tea Party is enormous help for the Republicans. At the beginning of the year, the question was, will the Tea Party people play nicely with others and will they obey the rules of politics? Who’s sort of not playing nicely? Mr. Crist starts losing the primary to a Tea Party favorite Rubio. He suddenly discovers that he’s an independent and changes all his views overnight. Mrs. Murkowski loses a primary and suddenly discovers that she has a property right in her Senate seat and she’s going to run as a write-in. Senator Bennett thought of that in Utah, Senator Castle in Delaware is thinking of a write-in candidate. Who are the extremists? (CROSSTALK) RON BROWNSTEIN, NATIONAL JOURNAL: Donna, I would say, look — I mean, I think clearly this class of Republicans do not feel they are being sent here to Washington to compromise with Barack Obama or to follow the Republican leadership. So in that sense, there’s going to be tension. And I quote Ken Buck in my story as saying so. But if you look at what they are actually going to be voting on, in all likelihood, over the next two years, there is remarkable unanimity in this class. And despite all the focus on the civil war, I think that is kind of a — what the long-range vision of what the federal government should be doing or not doing is where you will see diversity. (CROSSTALK) BROWNSTEIN: But in the near term — in the — in the near term, I think — in terms — the main thing that the Republicans, I think, are being sent here to do is to block and try to roll back whatever they can what Obama did. I think the spending thing will continue to be a challenge for them, because if you want to reduce the deficits and extend the Bush tax cuts, that does point you back toward cutting Medicare and Medicaid, which is exactly the problem they got into in ’95, and they may end up in that same cul-de-sac next year. But I actually believe there is more commonality in this class than is often assumed. And in the near term, they are going to be a very formidable and, I think, cohesive force. WILL: And look at the not-so-near term. In the next two cycles, 2012 and 2014 combined, the Democrats are defending 43 Senate seats, Republicans 22. So the Republican wave that’s now starting is just starting. Indeed. As Will accurately stated, the media have been “writing this story for eight months about what a problem the Tea Party is for the Republican Party.” The liberal press are always trying to figure out a narrative that paints the GOP in the most negative light.   First we were told the Tea Party represented an inconsequential fringe of racists and homophobes that will have no impact on elections. Now that its candidates have produced shocking results across the fruited plain, and have reinvigorated conservative voters like nothing we’ve seen in many years, the movement is going to produce a Civil War within the Republican Party that will either hurt it in November or make it impossible for it to govern if its successful at the polls. This is clearly why you could see Will either shaking his head or seemingly laughing to himself as his colleagues waxed philosophically about some as yet unrealized though oft-predicted calamity associated with this movement. Less than two years after Barack Obama and the Democrat Party won a landslide victory that had the potential of being a political realignment shifting the balance of power in this country to the left for many years nay decades, the Republicans are on the precipice of shocking the world by taking back the Congress. Is it any wonder the media are doing their darnedest to figure out a way to undermine it or that Will is getting such a kick out of watching them try?

CNN/US President Jon Klein Fired

Jonathan Klein is out as the president of CNN/US. According to TVNewser, Klein is being replaced by HLN chief Ken Jautz. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, the website FTVLive is reporting Klein was fired. Klein, who got the position in 2004, was given a four-year extension in 2007. With CNN’s ratings in the dumps, and decisions like giving disgraced former New York governor Eliot Spitzer a show with Kathleen Parker, one has to wonder why it took so long. Of course, if this news is true, it will be interesting to see whether any of Klein’s recent moves will be reversed. Stay tuned. *****Update: CNN has now confirmed . The Associated Press is reporting he was fired and didn’t come to work today: The timing, however, is odd. Klein just remade CNN’s prime-time lineup with an 8 p.m. show starring former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, which debuts next week, and announced Piers Morgan as the replacement to Larry King.  Maybe it’s not odd at all. Maybe those pathetic decisions are the reason.
