T he National Association of Black Journalists is on a mission to combat the negative portrayals of Black men in the media. For the third consecutive year, the organization will host its “Black Male Media Project” as an avenue to empower and inspire Black men to reclaim their narratives. The organization has been dedicated to the advocacy of Black journalists worldwide. The Black Male Media Project was created as a safe space to foster discussions surrounding everything from the need for more diversity and inclusion in newsrooms to the improvement of positive Black male representation. One of the panels, dubbed #MoreThanMugshots, will take a deep dive into how Black men are portrayed in news coverage. The event is also utilized to align Black men with mentoring and networking opportunities. As part of the global event—which is slated to take place on June 1—nearly 20 NABJ chapters within the U.S. and other parts of the world will host workshops, panels, forums. There will be events hosted in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Philadelphia and other major cities. The organization hopes that the movement transcends beyond the physical safe spaces that they’ve created as part of the event and encourages individuals to connect and spread awareness about the efforts digitally through the use of the hashtag #InspireBlackMen on social media. “The overarching goal of BMMP is to counteract negative images of Black men often portrayed in the media,” said NABJ President Sarah Glover said in a statement. “We encourage all newsrooms across the country to make this a priority because how Black men are portrayed in the news can have a direct impact on issues such as racial profiling, discriminatory hiring practices, violence and more. Black men are intellectuals, professionals, innovators, spiritual leaders, activists, fathers, brothers and sons just like any other man and should be treated and portrayed that way.” Forums like the Black Male Media Project are needed. According to a study conducted by the Rutgers School of Public Health, there is a direct correlation between the media’s negative portrayal of Black men and how they are treated by the police. Clermont has until June 4 to turn herself into the low-security FCI Dublin, located 20 miles outside of Oakland, CA. With good behavior, Clermont can get a job at one of the several prison industries, like repairing postal service mail bags, sewing curtains or answering phones in a call center. After she’s processed, Clermont will be issued a khaki uniform and assigned to a unit staffed by a case manager, according to the prison handbook. And she better not get too chummy with her fellow inmates. Physical contact – even hand-holding – is banned, and breaking the rules could wind Clermont in “disciplinary segregation,” the prison handbook says. It’s a far cry from living the high life on Instagram with her twin sister, Shannon. Unfortunately, Clermont admitted to financing that lifestyle in part with the debit card of a man she met on a “prostitution date,” attempting to spend some $20,000 in fraudulent charges. The Yeezy model will join the ranks of celebs like the Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss and heiress Patty Hearst, who have served sentences out at the prison. Clermont was not yet in custody as of May 21, and her lawyer wrote the judge to ask that she be allowed to travel with sister Shannon for a paid appearance in Philadelphia over Memorial Day weekend, according to court records.

Earlier today, we reported on yet another shocking development in the life of former Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans. Jenelle’s youngest son, Kaiser, was removed from her care by Child Protective Services on Friday and turned over to his father, Nathan Griffith. The agency usually only takes such drastic measures in cases where there’s reason to believe that there’s an immediate danger to the child’s safety. The exact nature of the threat to Kaiser is unknown, but the decision to remove the boy from Jenelle’s custody is a reportedly a result of a recent incident in which her husband, David Eason, shot and killed the family dog during a fit of rage. Upon learning of that incident, Griffith called 911 and requested that police perform a welfare check on his son. “I guess there was a dispute with my ex-fiancée and her husband and he shot a dog. And there’s been multiple 911 calls of abuse,” Griffith told police. “And I’m just trying to figure out where my son’s at and what I should do in this situation right now. I’m just so confused right now. … I just want to make sure my son is safe.” On social media, Evans has been uncharacteristically quiet. But in an interview with Us Weekly , the controversial former reality star spoke out about her efforts to regain custody. “I’ve been fighting to get my son back,” she tells the tabloid . “Kaiser was taken away Friday without my consent, before Mother’s Day, and I have been in touch with my lawyer pertaining this matter,” Evans adds “Kaiser was taken from his daycare by his grandmother [Nathan Griffith’s mother, Doris] with no notice or call to me.” Evans admits that Griffith’s mother acted with the authorization of CPS, but still feels that she the decision was unjust: “CPS told Doris to take Kaiser without my consent and still have no legal paperwork signed by the judge stating my kids are taken from me,” she tells Us . Interestingly, Jenelle claims that Nathan is on her side in all of this: “Our current custody order is still in place,” Evans says. “Nathan is to have supervised visits and only supervised by Doris. “Surprisingly, me and Nathan have been getting along, so I’m willing to maybe let his visits be unsupervised. Me and Nathan have been in contact during all of this. He doesn’t want Kaiser taken from me.” Jenelle has already lost custody of her eldest son, Jace , who has with her mother, Barbara Evans, for most of his life. According to Jenelle, Barbara is currently withholding visitation rights, a development which she blames on the fact that she was recently fired from MTV as a result of the dog shooting incident. “My mom is keeping Jace from me, nobody else,” she says. “I only had Ensley with me for Mother’s Day this year. And my mom is taking it out on me for being let go from MTV.” As for her tumultuous relationship with Eason — which has now cost her her dog, her job, and her relationship with her sons in just the past week — Evans says the marriage is currently “healing.” “My relationship with David now is still in a healing process, of course,” Evans explains. “We are going to start going to marriage counseling because he feels as if we both need it. “I completely agree. Not considering divorce unless he refuses counseling with me.” In her surprisingly candid comments, Jenelle expresses hope that her family situation will reverse course now that it seems to have hit rock bottom. “At this time, I want to focus on what’s best for myself and my family,” Evans says. “My lawyer has been advising me on what to do and what has gone wrong in this whole situation.” From there, Jenelle encouraged fans to be wary of information they receive from the media: “Any rumors that come out, I would like for everyone to just step back and think, ’Is this from Jenelle? No, it’s not true,’” she concludes. “I’m very open with the public and my life and will continue to be. “Right now, I need this time to just hang out with my family. I need them so bad right now.” The future of Jenelle’s custody arrangements remains very much in doubt, but the developments of the past two weeks are unlikely to help her standing in family court.
