The newest member of the “Basketball Wives” clan, Meeka Claxton – better known as “So, I met up with [insert anyone of VH1’s “Basketball Wives” ladies yesterday] and she told me….” – was recently interviewed by TT Torrez and she opened up about everything from having grease in her family to E-thugs taking shots at her on twitter. It’s no secret that Meeka is not particularly high on everyone’s radar and I thought that maybe that would change once I heard her interview. I thought, ‘No, she can’t possibly come off that shady.’ Interviews are supposed to be an opportunity for celebrities to let viewers see a different side to them without all the crazy edits. It’s their chance to use the interview as a platform to show regular everyday people like you and I how they really get down all cameras aside. Truthfully, this interview did nothing to change my feelings on Meeka. For some reason I still get that eerily shady vibe from her. Her personality comes off so strong, so soon. It’s like she’s constantly out to prove something. My mother always told me, “Anybody who talks that much, that soon usually turn out to be big liars,” I get this vibe from her completely. There are many instances of this interview where she contradicts herself. For instance, when TT brought up the rumor of Meeka reaching out to Shaunie to be on the show, her response in so many words, was that she was initially very hesitant about the show because of all the drama that came with it, but that she was told if she centers it around her family life and business, it could be a great opportunity. Now I don’t know about you, but….we’re already in the fourth episode of the season and I have no idea what business she has and have only seen her with her “family” once. Immediately after that, she was onto the drama. I want to like Meeka. I really do. However, side eye’s are most definitely in abundance with this interview. When people seek to build a mosque near Ground Zero, the consensus among MSNBC liberals seems to be that their exercise of First Amendment rights to freedom of religion cannot be questioned. But it was a different story at MSNBC when, hours before and blocks away from where Pres. Obama was scheduled to speak, a man exercised his Second Amendment right to bear arms. Readers will recall the case of William Kostric. He was the New Hampshire man who was part of a protest group in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in August 2009 when Pres. Obama came to town for a health care town hall. Ironically, given the mosque controversy, Kostric was standing on . . . church property. But that made no difference to the wise men of MSNBC. Host Carlos Watson was sure there must be some kind of “emergency injuntion” available to have the man removed. And Chris Matthews, in the memorable interview embedded here, got testy when Kostric tried to cite his legal rights. “I know the law,” snapped Matthews, choosing instead to query Kostric on why he was carrying “a goddam gun.” Can we expect to see MSNBC hosts subjecting the mosque-builders to similarly sharp inquiry about their motives?
Some fans were floored by it, and others weren’t impressed, but it’s safe to say that 19-year-old Siobhan Magnus’ rendition of “Paint it Black” was definitely the most buzzed-about of this week’s 12 American Idol performances . The judges loved it, though Simon even acknowledged that a lot of people are likely to dislike her flamboyant style. That’s a compliment, as it beats indifference. We gotta give it up to Siobhan Magnus for upping the drama, paying tribute to this Rolling Stones classic, yet being original and keeping us riveted throughout. There were lots of strong performances among the finalists on American Idol , but the most memorable moment of the night may have come from Ryan Seacrest. After Simon Cowell called out Michael Lynche for “corny” dance moves, Ryan not only came to the affable singer’s defense, he got in Simon’s grill in the process. The normally unflappable judge was taken aback – and scooted his seat back, throwing his hands up and admitting he was very uncomfortable. Point, Seacrest! Chalk up another memorable exchange in one of Hollywood’s ongoing rivalries / friendships. We never quite know what to make of the dynamic between them.
