Weezer Revisit Pinkerton At Second Of Two Shows In San Francisco

Band performed 1994’s Blue Album at previous night’s show. By Matt Elias Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo performs in San Francisco on Monday Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images Halfway into Weezer ‘s set on Tuesday night, frontman Rivers Cuomo was sprawled out onstage, basking in the overwhelming sense of adoration in the room. It was night two of Weezer’s Memories Tour stop in San Francisco, at the Nob Hill Masonic Center, and the band started with a 10-song set followed by their 1996 sophomore effort Pinkerton in its entirety (night one saw Weezer play its entire Blue album ). As loose and energetic as the previous night, Weezer’s second engagement was a nod to die-hard Weezer fans. The set included some rarities like 1995’s “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly” and “Susanne.” Band members shared vocal duties throughout the set — guitarist Brian Bell took over on “Pork and Beans” and bassist Scott Shriner on “Dope Nose.” And as he did the night before, drummer Pat Wilson donned a guitar during the first part of the set, with drummer Josh Freese taking over percussion duties. The fans also took part in the action. Rivers invited a trio of fans decked out in homemade Weezer Ts onstage for the rest of the audience to see. At another point, Rivers spotted a fan waving a homemade W flag and invited him onstage. They stretched it out for all to see, and Rivers then displayed it on the drum riser. When he wasn’t inviting fans onstage, Rivers Cuomo was running through the audience, high-fiving fans and climbing on theater seats. No one was left untouched — not even the venue staff. During “Hash Pipe,” Cuomo yanked a beanie off a petite female staffer, plopped it on his head for a bit, then stretched it out onto a beefy security guard’s dome. Intermission followed and Weezer’s unofficial fifth member, Karl Koch, helmed a slide show (just like on the first night), showing off gems from Weezer’s early days. The crowd swooned at the sight of one of Weezer’s first fliers from 1992, a photo of the band with Spike Jonze during the Pinkerton recordings, and also shared a collective laugh at a Rolling Stone magazine clipping that declared Pinkerton the second-worst album of 1996 (just behind Bush’s Razorblade Suitcase ). When it was time for the Pinkerton set, the album’s cover art hung in the background, Pat returned to his drum kit and Rivers returned sans glasses (and not looking much different than he did during his Pinkerton days). The band ripped through the album’s 10 songs, garnering even more sing-alongs than the previous night. Those in attendance were definitely a dedicated bunch. The feeling was mutual. On “El Scorcho,” Brian gestured to the crowd during the lyrics “I’m a lot like you,” summing up the sentiment of the night. As the rest of the band left the stage, Rivers closed out the show with his acoustic guitar on “Butterfly” (and Karl took a stab at drumming). As the song concluded, Rivers took one simple bow and exited the stage — capping off a splendid two-night engagement of the Memories Tour. Related Artists Weezer

Simon Cowell Picks Lee DeWyze To Win ‘American Idol’

‘He hasn’t had any real breaks in his life, and this has given him a shot,’ he says on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show. By Kara Warner Lee Dewyze on “American Idol” Photo: Fox For those who place their “American Idol” winner bets based on the wisdom of cantankerous judge Simon Cowell, let it be known that the cagey Brit has placed his odds on late-season favorite Lee DeWyze. “If you’d asked me five or six weeks ago, 100 percent, I would have said Crystal [Bowersox],” Cowell admitted to his fellow judge, Ellen DeGeneres, when he stopped by her talk show Tuesday (May 25). “But now I’ve changed my mind. I think Lee’s going to win.” Ellen emphasized to her audience that the judges have no say in the outcome but pressed Cowell as to why he thinks DeWyze now has a chance to win this season’s “American Idol” crown. “I think, ” he emphasized. “But you know what? The last two years, I’ve got it completely and utterly wrong. I don’t think anyone’s listening to me anymore. It’s just a hunch. There’s something about him, the fact that he’s worked in a paint shop, he’s talented. He hasn’t had any real breaks in his life, and this has given him a shot. I like that.” Cowell and DeGeneres also talked about their friendship and how they’ll miss working together. “Who knew I’d like you so much?” DeGeneres joked about her pre-“Idol” impressions of Cowell. “[I’m] sad that you’re leaving.” “I’m feeling a bit sad now, because we’re nearly there [at the end],” Cowell said. “But at the same time, do you remember the last three weeks of school when you couldn’t wait to get out? It’s a little bit like that.” Are you sad to see Simon leave “Idol”? Do you agree that DeWyze will take home the title? Let us know in the comments! Slipknot’s Paul Gray Remembered By Megadeth, Korn And Others

Lamb of God, 3 Inches of Blood, Suicide Silence bandmembers and more also pay tribute to Slipknot bassist. By Ryan J. Downey Slipknot’s Paul Gray Photo: Barry Brecheisen/WireImage The metal community continued to flood the Internet with an outpouring of remembrances, as members of Megadeth, Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Suicide Silence and more commented on the death of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray . The 38 year old Slipknot co-founder was found dead Monday in an Iowa hotel room. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death were not available at press time. On Monday night, Shinedown dedicated an acoustic version of their song “Simple Man” to Gray during a concert in Minneapolis. Hellyeah, whose drummer Vinnie Paul suffered the loss of his brother, metal giant and Pantera co-founder “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, just a few years ago, released a statement: “We are completely shocked and very upset after hearing about the loss of Paul Gray. He was a great friend and a craftsman of one of the most compelling metal bands in history. Our thoughts are with his family, his bandmates and his countless fans and friends around the world. He will be deeply missed.” Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer relayed a personal message while speaking with a 20-year-old reporter in Lincoln, Nebraska. “I want to send my love to his family and the band, going through a really, really hard time right now — myself as well,” a visibly shaken Shaffer said in the video interview. “Paul just came to see us play when we went through Des Moines, [Iowa],” he continued. “Man, I’m speechless. I just want to send my love, prayers and respect to everybody that is surrounding his wife and the baby-to-be.” “We are all in shock at the news of our friend Paul’s passing,” Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton said in an email to MTV News. “He was an immense talent and this is such an incredible loss. Paul had a HUGE heart and lived and died for the music he made. I will miss him and the world will too.” Like Lamb of God and many other metal bands, the guys in 3 Inches of Blood got to know Slipknot while on the road as one of the Iowa band’s supporting acts. “Paul was a very kind and accommodating guy that always had time to sit and bullshit with me,” guitarist Shane Clark told MTV. “I knew his bass playing from Slipknot and Unida before we met and thought he had such a talent for tone and staying in the pocket — a sometimes-rare thing in the metal world. He was an amazing songwriter and a friend to many. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.” “One of my earliest memories of Paul was our first tour of Ozzfest together — watching him mow down a 10-foot-high fence in a ‘borrowed’ golf cart, and that famous deviant-yet-innocent grin of his as he scampered back to his bus,” recalled Otep frontwoman Otep Shamaya to MTV News. “And then I witnessed his wonderful insanity onstage. It is painful to write about Paul in the past tense. But he was, as the inscription on Jim Morrison’s headstone reads, ‘kata ton daimona eautou’ &#8212 true to his own spirit,” she continued. “Part mystic, part madman, Paul was a savagely beautiful human being, an incredible writer, musician, and performer and an amazing friend. For those of us he touched through friendship or by his incredible music, there is some anger and outrage at this loss, the senselessness of it, but most of all, it is the heavy drapes of sadness that devours us. Another candle fades into the night; another shadow ascends into the light. Rest in power, my friend. Shake the walls of paradise for us.” “Paul was a stand-up guy and a great musician,” said another Ozzfest tourmate, Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta, in a statement. “He and Slipknot changed the face of rock music as we know it. Just about every metal bandmember, from 1999 onward, owes him a salute. My condolences to his band, family and fans. We’ll miss you dearly, Paul. We are eternally grateful for you,” the former MTV2 Headbangers Ball host said. Jasta’s Hatebreed bandmate, bass player Chris Beattie, released a statement of his own: “It came as a surprise today to hear that Paul Gray passed away this morning. I consider it an honor to have gotten to know him. His contribution to the music world was enormous and will live on forever. R.I.P.” Shadows Fall and Nonpoint members spoke to MTV News Monday, immediately after hearing the news, with Sepultura releasing a statement online as well. “I will never forget the first time I heard Slipknot’s debut,” Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza said in a statement. “It inspired me to make music and has provided a major influence ever since. My thoughts and prayers go out to Paul’s family, friends and fellow bandmates. I’m on the way to hammer back some beers and blast some tunes for you Paul. Thank you for all the memories Slipknot gave to us. You’ve touched us all with your music and you will truly be missed. RIP Paul Gray.” Last month, it was announced that Gray would replace David Ellefson in the supergroup/ cover band Hail! after Ellefson’s return to Megadeth. “I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Paul Gray’s passing,” Ellefson said via statement. “I considered him an incredible songwriter, inventive bassist, but more importantly, a kind and warm friend. As a fellow musician, I was excited that he would be playing in Hail! this coming month, as I knew it would be a fun experience for him. I’m sad that the European audiences will not get to see him play those shows.” The news of Gray’s passing shocked a community still reeling from the recent deaths of metal legend Ronnie James Dio, Type O Negative frontman Peter Steele and Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. “I extend my condolences to his family, to Slipknot and their management, as well as his many friends and fans who loved him around the world,” Ellefson continued. “He was another one of the ‘good ones’ in our business. … A wonderful man who will be missed by us all.” Share your memories of Paul Gray and Slipknot in the comments below. Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray On Fans’ Dedication

In 2008 interview, bassist, who died Monday, says fans leave him ‘speechless.’ By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Paul Gray Photo: MTV News Slipknot bassist Paul Gray — who was found dead Monday (May 24) in a suburban Iowa hotel room of causes that had not been announced at press time — helped found the group back in 1995, and over the next 15 years, he’d witness their remarkable ascension from Iowa outsiders to one of the most popular hard-rock acts on the planet. And though Slipknot sold millions of albums, toured the world and even won a Grammy, the band never lost the bond Gray — and his bandmates — shared with their fans. It was a connection that few groups manage to achieve, and one that Gray cherished, as he told MTV News in 2008, just before the release of Slipknot’s most recent album, All Hope Is Gone. “It makes you kind of speechless, man. Some kid who’s so depressed or things are going so bad for them that they actually want to take their own lives, and then they listen to a Slipknot lyric or a song … and that actually gets them through that? I mean, what can you say?” Gray said. “I’m just happy that we’re able to do something and actually touch somebody like that, where they do feel empowered to keep pushing on and keep going through what they’re going through, and surviving. It’s an overwhelming feeling.” And though it meant having to deal with plenty of heavy stuff, Gray never shied away from spending time with Slipknot’s so-called “Maggots.” Instead, he opened his Iowa home to them … he considered it an honor. “I don’t know how they do it, man, but they find my address, my actual home address, and I’ll get letter and paintings. I have huge murals, big paintings of us that these guys put hours and hours into. And they’ll send them into my house. I don’t know how they do that, but … it’s really cool,” he laughed. “I’ve had people just show up at my house, and they’re sitting on my back porch drinking beer, waiting for me to come home. And, like, I come home at two in the morning and there’s these kids just sitting there, and I’m like, ‘What the f— are you doing here?’ and they’re like, screaming and, like, ‘Can we come in and hang out?’ And I’m the kind of person who lets them in, tells them, ‘Here, sh–, have another beer, whatever, I’ll drive you home.’ It’s crazy, man.” Share your memories of Paul Gray and Slipknot in the comments below. Tattoo Artist Underage Sex Scheme of the Day

This tattoo artist had the right idea….He knew teenage girls liked tattoos but that getting tattoos is illegal without parental consent and most parents are too stuffy and uptight to let their daughter’s get the White Power tattoos they saw on TMZ that lured Jesse James in and made some whore famous…..So he decided to make a fucking deal…..and that deal was if they give him sex, he’ll give them a tattoo and everyone is happy….until you get caught….The whole thing would have been pretty genius if the motherfucker wasn’t a tattoo artist and was instead trading things that you can’t trace back to a motherfucker cuz you know a girl who will have sex for something, usually means she wants it bad and usually plans on showing it off, and eventually their parents will see it and their friends will ask where they got it and the truth will come out, but I guess it was worth it for the motherfucker, because now he’ll have the memories of banging little whores while he’s getting banged in prison….

Charlize Theron’s Sex Eyes Still Look Hot of the Day

I love Charlize Theron. Even when she plays white trash serial killer I can still get off to her, not that I’ve got off to anyone in the last few years, but the memories are pretty fucking fond. If I knew fucking my wife at her fattest would have given me post traumatic stress making me unable to fuck anymore, I probably would have played things out a little differently, but the good news is that this new found pent up sexual energy has made me one of the biggest perverts on the internet, the kind of guy who can look at pictures of a hot South African slut who’s probably pushing 40 posing on a red carpet and visualize a bitch on her bed masturbating thanks to her facial expressions, and that’s some serious fucking issues, probably comparable to some of you virgins who think you are dating celebrities cuz you found a picture of them winking at the camera and you’re desperation makes you delusional and think she’s winking at you…. I guess all this is to say, we’re all in the same boat and that boat is not anywhere near the pussy we’d like to Dora the Explorer. Pics via Fame
