#ThrowbackThursdays * DJ Paul Picks * Jungle Brothers “J. Beez Comin Through” *

This week, we had some real Hip Hop talk with “The King Of Memphis”, DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia. We chopped it up about some of his early influences when he was coming up as a DJ way before the group’s success. “Bass music was the sound in the South. The few local rappers we had in Memphis were not commercially known so the majority of our record collections were from East Coast & West Coast artists.”
One of the groups he mentioned was the Jungle Brothers. The 1989 “Done By The Forces Of Nature” album was one of Paul’s favorites. This album was the follow up to their 1988 classic “Straight Out The Jungle.” Real hip hop heads will agree with DJ Paul on this one. “J. Beez Comin Through” was one of the singles off this album. “Sheen is feeling more and more like OJ driving up the 405,” tweeted David Poland earlier today. “I don’t even think people realize they are just waiting for the gun to go off.” Oy. Well, how about a drive down memory lane instead — to a happier, more innocent time when Charlie Sheen actually volunteered to leave a TV show after a healthy payday.

15 minutes of fame isn’t a long time, especially for stars with little or no talent. 2010 saw a ton of people become household names for doing…well…not much of anything. We’re pretty sure, though, that we’ll all forget about them by the time next year rolls around. Here’s a walk down memory lane as we say goodbye to people that we won’t want to hear from in 2011.

Dueling Montages: Was 2010 Better for Films or Viral Videos?

Year-end lists are great ! But as we’ve learned in the past few years, they aren’t enough for this tech-savy age. No, we need end of year video montages too. Extremely comprehensive end-of-year-montages. Well, two particularly well-edited ones have just popped up; one counting down the top 100 viral videos of the year and one just paying homage to the avalanche of movies, good and bad, that crashed down on us during 2010. So join me for a trip down memory lane and try to decide whether the year’s best entertainment was delivered in a movie theater or on cell phones and laptops.
