Lil Wayne Records Verse For Drake’s ‘Light Up’ From Prison

‘Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop,’ Wayne raps in remix. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Lil Wayne has blogged from the bing and hosted a mixtape from prison , and now the Cash Money Records superstar has kicked a rhyme from behind bars. Weezy recorded a verse for Drake’s “Light Up” featuring Jay-Z ; the original track is set to appear on the Toronto MC’s forthcoming debut, Thank Me Later, slated for a June 15 release. Drizzy premiered the number Tuesday night during a Ustream session with Jas Prince, the son of legendary Rap-A-Lot Record founder J. Prince. “I’m feeling like Elvis, ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ ” Wayne raps via telephone. “I’m not 2Pac, I’m the new ‘Pac/ Behind bars, but the bars don’t stop/ Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop/ Drizzy got the ball, I know the ball won’t drop/ And I pray none of my kids ever wanna be Pop.” Drake first hinted at the “Light Up” remix during his listening session in New York last week. The Young Money recording artist visited his mentor prior to the session and later told MTV 2 “Sucker Free” host DJ Envy that he and Wayne would release a joint project . The album version features only Drake and Jay-Z as the two rappers trade rhymes about their experience in the rap game. Drake told MTV News in March that the track is similar to the advice and conversations he has with the Brooklyn wordsmith. “It’s just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time,” Drake explained “It’s real rap. I do sing on it, but it’s just on the hook. It’s great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track — it’s me and Jay’s relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, ‘Oh man.’ That’s how we are — just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay.” What do you think about Lil Wayne’s “Light Up” verse? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Artists Lil Wayne Drake

Drake To Visit Lil Wayne In Prison

‘FINALLY got some time for a visit to go see my brother,’ rapper tweeted. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: the305.com Drake announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he would be visiting his mentor in prison on Wednesday (June 2). “FINALLY got some time for a visit tmrw to go see my brother,” Drake wrote . “So if you got msgs that need to be delivered write #TellWayne.” The Toronto MC has been on the road and putting the final touches on his debut, Thank Me Later, since Weezy turned himself in to prison back in March. In an interview Drake gave to MTV Jams in honor of Lil Tunechi Weekend, the So Far Gone superstar admitted he missed his Young Money cohort, from their friendly rivalry to the veteran rapper’s guidance. “One of the most important things in my life was being able to always see that Weezy e-mail come in,” Drake explained while donning a white T-shirt emblazoned with the rapper’s face and the words “Free Wayne.” “Or be able to respond to that e-mail or be able to ask him a question. Be able to utilize his knowledge. Our communication, I would say I miss that.” Since the rapper has been away, Drake has done his best to keep Lil Wayne’s name alive , from shouting him out at shows to bringing him up in interviews. Wayne has done a good job himself of staying active in the public’s mind, releasing a spate of videos and hosting a mixtape from behind bars. According to the New York City Department of Correction website, Wayne is allowed visits on Wednesdays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The two will be allocated an hour of time for the visit and Drake will be subjected to multiple searches before he’ll come face to face with Wayne. Fans have followed Drake’s instructions and are hoping he relays a number of messages, including notes of support and wishes for Wayne’s next album to arrive soon . Drizzy also will be relaying a message from his own mother to Wayne. “I talked to mother, she loves you to death,” Drake told MTV. “That’s from Mama Graham.” What do you think about Drake going to visit Lil Wayne? Justin Bieber ‘Might Have’ Tried Out For ‘American Idol’

‘My mom used to watch it when I was little and we were like, ‘I could get on there, you know,’ ‘ singer says. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber was spotted in the audience at “American Idol” a few weeks back when his mentor Usher performed on the show . But Bieber himself will get the opportunity to perform on the “Idol” stage during Wednesday’s (April 21) “Idol Gives Back” special . And the singer said he could have easily been one of the contestants on the stage if everything had worked differently. “For sure! You know … we used to watch [the show]. Me and my mom used to watch it when I was little and we were like, ‘I could get on there, you know,’ ” he told MTV News. “When I turned 16, I might have went and tried out, but this was faster,” he said of being discovered on YouTube. Bieber also said that he stopped by the show to help out with charitable organizations and actually did not give advice to any of the “Idol” hopefuls. “It was great. I was just there. I didn’t really work with any of the contestants,” he said. “I was there supporting Usher when he performed.” “Idol” producers handpicked Bieber as one of the many artists to grace the “Idol Gives Back” stage. “I looked at that night as a good night for him to be on, because he’s absolutely phenomenal,” executive producer C

Justin Bieber Says He Gets Hip-Hop Support Because He’s Not ‘Corny’

‘I’m really glad they’ve taken a liking to me,’ singer says of supporters like Ludacris and Lil Wayne. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber chills with Drake and Ludacris and he’s even gotten a shout-out from Lil Wayne — how does he feel about being embraced by the hip-hop community? “I like hop-hop a lot. I’m really glad they’ve taken a liking to me,” he told MTV News recently. “Having Luda [on my song ‘Baby’] and having Lil Wayne give me shout me out on UStream and, like, you know — it’s cool.” He added that unlike many of his contemporaries, including pop stars Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, he didn’t need the House of Mouse to get ahead in the industry. “I think it’s because I didn’t go through the Disney route,” he explained. “I didn’t go corny, but, like, at the same time I’ve been cool and collected.” And while one of his musical icons got his start on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” Bieber still looks up to Justin Timberlake and his mentor, Usher. “Well, basically I look at people like Usher and Justin Timberlake and how they went from being a child star to blowing up and doing what they’re doing now,” he said. “I look up and see what they do and see that’s what I want to do … and things that I want to do that’s different and things that I wanna do that’s working for them.” And although he’s working for Usher these days, he admitted he wouldn’t pass up the chance to work with Wayne. “I would love to work with him in the future, but nothing so far,” he explained, adding that despite all the hip-hop in his life he’s actually got a lot of friends who are strictly pop. “I mean, I just hang out with whoever. I’m also friends with Selena Gomez. I hang out with everyone,” he said, adding any rumors of a swagger coach have been greatly exaggerated . “I mean, it’s just a joke. It’s just something we made up. … I don’t know; I’m just myself.” MTV News will be rolling out highlights from our exclusive sit-down interview with Justin Bieber all week! Lady Antebellum Rule Sleepy Billboard Albums Chart

Justin Bieber’s My World EP climbs back into top 10 in anticipation of 2.0. By James Montgomery Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now Photo: Capitol After a one-week absence from the top of the Billboard albums chart, Lady Antebellum will return to #1 on next week’s Top 200, as their Need You Now sold more than 93,000 copies in its eight week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That was enough to claim the peak position on an otherwise pretty slow chart week. Gospel artist Marvin Sapp ‘s Here I Am debuts at #2, with sales of more than 75,000 copies. Last week’s champ, Ludacris , follows at #3, as his Battle of the Sexes concept album sold about 61,000 copies. The Edge compilation — a two-disc collection of rock hits from the likes of Puddle of Mudd , Jet and Hoobastank — scored the week’s second-highest bow, selling more than 53,000 copies to land at #4. And chart mainstay Lady Gaga ‘s The Fame is in at #5, with sales of more than 48,000 copies. Rounding out the top 10 are: Sade ‘s Soldier of Love (#6, 40,000), the Jimi Hendrix collection Valleys of Neptune (#7, 39,000), the Black Eyed Peas ‘ The E.N.D. (#8, 39,000), Gorillaz ‘ Plastic Beach (#9, 38,000) and Justin Bieber ‘s My World EP (#10, more than 33,000 copies). Other noteworthy debuts include the White Stripes ‘ Under Great White Northern Lights live album, which sold just under 29,000 copies to land at #11; the Drive-By Truckers ‘ Big To-Do at #22 with nearly 19,000 copies sold, and the Dropkick Murphys ‘ Live on Landsdowne at #25, with sales of more than 17,000 copies.
