Parents of Bruce Beresford-Redman Files for Custody of Grandchildren

As authorities in Mexico prepare to file charges against Bruce Beresford-Redman for the recent murder of his wife , the former TV producer will likely lose his children soon. Bruce’s parents, David and Juanita Beresford-Redman have filed the necessary paperwork in L.A. County Superior Court that would make them permanent guardians of Alec and Camilla, the kids Bruce had with his late wife, Monica. The couple already has temporary custody . In the documents, David and Juanita say they are retired and in good heath, enjoy a solid relationship with Alec and Camilia and are “able to devote ourselves to the care and nurture of our grandchildren.” “We are both well-educated, each with a masters degree… we will be able to address questions that arise from our grandchildren,” they wrote. Bruce reportedly wants it this way, as his children will at least end up in the care of close relatives.

Oil Rig Sinks on Earth Day, sets stage for huge spill

A deepwater oil platform that burned for more than a day after a massive explosion sank into the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday, creating the potential for a major spill as it underscored the slim chances that the 11 workers still missing survived. The sinking of the Deepwater Horizon, which burned violently until the gulf itself extinguished the fire, could unleash more than 300,000 of gallons of crude a day into the water. The environmental hazards would be greatest if the spill were to reach the Louisiana coast, some 50 miles away. Crews searched by air and water for the missing workers, hoping they had managed to reach a lifeboat, but one relative said family members have been told it's unlikely any of the missing survived Tuesday night's blast. The Coast Guard found two lifeboats but no one was inside. More than 100 workers escaped the explosion and fire; four were critically injured. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/22/oil-rig-deepwater-horizon_n_548745.html added by: jeffissleeping

‘Hills’ Buzz Moment #6: Heidi And Spencer’s Many Weddings

Speidi made it official last year after a few proposals and one not-quite-legal ceremony. By Jocelyn Vena Heidi Montag gets married on “The Hills” Photo: Max Butterworth/Louise Barnsley/PacificCoastNews It was the moment — well, moments — that kept “Hills” fans guessing. Over the show’s five seasons, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have gone through two proposals, three weddings and a whole lot of drama — which all adds up to the #6 spot on our list of the most buzzed-about moments on “The Hills.” Over the course of their relationship, not everyone has been rooting for Speidi to stick it out, and Spencer hasn’t always been the best influence on Heidi. He broke up her friendship with Lauren Conrad, caused problems with her family and didn’t always give her sage career advice. Yet, despite the animosity toward him, it seemed like maybe Spencer had changed when he decided back in 2007 to take his relationship with Heidi to a whole new level and proposed to her for the first time. But the two couldn’t agree on all the details. Heidi wanted a lavish wedding, while he wanted to elope, and of course, in the end, Spencer got his way. So, on a trip to Mexico fueled by some tequila, Heidi and Spencer eloped. But a Mexican wedding doesn’t mean you’re really married in the United States, and upon their return, Heidi and Spencer wanted to make it legal in a courtroom wedding in Los Angeles. The news was not well-received, but thanks to some advice from sister Stephanie, Spencer showed us all he actually has a heart. “I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams, and I will deal with it,” Spencer told Heidi, forgoing the courtroom ceremony. “It’s worth it, and we’ll do it the way you want.” Eventually, Spencer proposed again, and Heidi finally got the wedding she always dreamed of — plus a nice rock. On April 25, 2009, friends and family gathered to see Speidi make it official in a fairy-tale wedding . With Lauren Conrad in attendance and Kristin Cavallari making an appearance, it was a day to remember. Stephanie later told MTV News , “This is with the family. There was a legal priest, and the ceremony had prayers. It was completely different.” What are some of your favorite “Hills” moments? Let us know in the comments below! “The Hills: Final Season” premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by “The City” at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. ‘420 Day’: Events Around The Annual Unofficial Celebration

The national High Holiday for pot smokers is a long tradition. Photo: Justin Sullivan/ Getty Images If you notice that some slackers are conspicuously absent from the office on Tuesday (April 20), just look at the calendar for a clue as to why: It is, after all, “420,” the national High Holiday for marijuana enthusiasts from coast to coast. Whether advocating for pot legalization or just taking a day to wake, bake and repeat, “Marijuana Appreciation Day” has turned into an unofficial day of reflection for pot smokers. ( Editor’s note: MTV does not endorse the use of any illegal substances or events that promote their consumption. ) Among the major events commemorating the day is a daylong rally at Denver’s Civic Center Park calling for marijuana legalization, as well as an unauthorized public smoke-out on the campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder that is expected to draw thousands. There is also a large annual gathering at the University of California at Santa Cruz, where thousands get together at 4:20 on 4/20 for a giant smoke-out. The origins of the holiday vary, including suggestions that it’s tied to the penal-code violation in California for marijuana possession or to the amount of chemicals in pot plants, though urban myth has it springing from a group of 1970s teenage potheads in San Rafael, California, called the Waldos who would gather at the same statue every day at 4:20 p.m. to get high. The term began to catch on in the 1990s and has since become shorthand for lighting up, even popping up in movies like “Pulp Fiction,” where all the clocks are set to 4:20. The latest 420 Day comes as a new poll from The Associated Press and CNBC found that 55 percent of Americans oppose marijuana legalization while 33 percent support it, though the figures were very different for those under 30, where 54 percent favored legalization to 39 against. The site CelebStoner.com has listed a number of events celebrating the day, including shows by Snoop Dogg in New York (at the Fillmore), Cypress Hill in San Francisco (at the Warfield), Willie Nelson in Topeka, Kansas (at the Topeka Performing Arts Center) and Sublime with Rome in Los Angeles (at the Palladium). Not at all coincidentally, Cypress Hill’s latest, Rise Up is slated for release on Tuesday, along with new ones from fellow weed-thusiasts the Kottonmouth Kings, Devin the Dude and Nelson. There is also a “420” celebration in Los Angeles that will feature a silent plant auction, music from DJ Crash, cultivation lectures, performances, comedy and music from Lunell, Red Spanky Hayes and others. Milton, Washington will host the Seattle Hempfest 420 Members’ Social at the Cedarwood Dome & Hookah Lounge, described as a 21+ “member’s only evening of music and discussion about the origins of 420, the cultural significance of the number, and the future of cannabis in modern society.” There are also screenings of the “Phish 3D” movie in Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York and Washington D.C., and a 420 Film Fest in Calgary, Alberta, which last year honored such cinematic triumphs as “Johnny Appleweed,” “Blaze” and “400 Bowls.” The day’s activity — which happens to coincide with Adolf Hitler’s birthday — comes at a time when medical marijuana use has been approved in 14 states, including Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Vermont Rhode Island and New Jersey.
