Priest uses juice cans to hijack Mexican plane

MEXICO CITY — A Protestant priest who hijacked a Mexican plane with 104 people aboard on a divine mission to save Mexico used three juice cans to convince crew members he had a bomb, he later told reporters. Bible-carrying Jose Mar Flores Pereira, 44, also a singer and former drug addict, surrendered to authorities here Wednesday after hijacking the Aeromexico Boeing 737 on a flight from the popular tourist resort of Cancun to Mexico City. All the passengers — most of whom had no idea they had been taken hostage — were safely evacuated as security forces swarmed Mexico's international airport within minutes of the plane landing.

Antimatter galaxies and dark matter have long haunted physicists' theories, but no instrument in orbit has had the power to confirm or deny their existence. Now a $1.5 billion cosmic ray detector scheduled for launch in 2010 could usher in a new era for discovering all that's weird and wonderful about the universe. Cosmic rays consist of high-energy particles that emerge from catastrophic events such as supernovas, and may also hold the clues to whether antimatter galaxies and dark matter truly exist

Gunmen kill 17 people at a drug rehabilitation center in Mexico

Gunmen broke into a drug rehabilitation center and shot 17 people dead in a northern Mexican border city, an official said. The attackers on Wednesday broke down the door of El Aliviane center in Ciudad Juarez, lined up their victims against a wall and opened fire, said Arturo Sandoval, a spokesman for the regional prosecutors' office.
